Matt Damon: 'I Need To Pay More Taxes'

Matt Damon: 'I Need To Pay More Taxes' By Noel Sheppard Created 12/14/2012 - 11:23am

Why is it wealthy liberals don’t understand that if they want to pay more income taxes, they can each year on their 1040 form make an additional contribution to the federal government above and beyond what they owe?

Consider the case of actor Matt Damon who on PBS’s Tavis Smiley Show Wednesday actually said, “I need to pay more taxes” (video follows with transcript and commentary):

TAVIS SMILEY, HOST: Do you think that ultimately on the things that matter to you, the things that matter to me, that Obama as president is going to be on the right side of history?

MATT DAMON: I desperately hope so, because we need that. And people need that. I don’t need that, I am in the one percent. So I need to pay more taxes. It’s the truth. You know, I don’t begrudge, I don’t drive by a fire house and see guys playing cards and begrudge the fact that my taxes pay them, because every once in a while, the bell goes off and those guys run into a burning building for people who are strangers, for people who are my friends, or their cats. You know? And I don’t want to do that. You know? I don’t know that I’m built to do that. Maybe I am, but I would rather pay another percent or two for some, you know, police who are going to make sure that, you know, our kids are safe and we’re safe. You know? Occasionally, they put themselves in harm's way.

And I like driving on nice roads. You know, I believe, you know, I just, I believe that we’re all in it together. And I don’t, and I wonder, you know, these people who get so angry about a couple more percentage points. It’s like, “What, I mean, what are you talking about? Really. You know. You want to see what life looks like without that? Go to the Congo. You know? There are rich people in Haiti, go check it out. Do you want to live there?” You know?

I mean, it’s like, so, for me, I, you know, those issues of social justice as well, like, for me, those are the most important. I’m reading a lot about Bobby Kennedy right now. So here’s somebody who writes about poverty, but those things that he was fighting against towards the end of his life, and fighting for, there hasn’t been a lot of movement, you know, statistically on a lot of that stuff. And that’s 40 some odd years ago, and that’s pretty sad.

Actually, if anything, despite the trillions of tax dollars that have gone to fight poverty in the past 50 years or so, there are more people living in poverty than there were when the "war" on it began.

As rich liberals hate "wasting" money on wars they oppose, why are they virtually all so willing to spend more on this "war" despite its obvious failure?

Far more importantly, if Damon was really concerned about the poor, why doesn’t he give 90 percent of his current wealth to charity?

According to our friends at CelebrityNetWorth.com, he’s worth $65 million and earns about $24 million a year.

As such, rather than paying more taxes, he should take $60 million and donate it to a variety of charities devoted to helping those in poverty.

He'll still have $5 million along with his astonishing income to live a much finer lifestyle than the 99 percent he claims to be concerned with.

Then he'd actually walk the walk he demands others far less well off than him do.

Just saying.

Damon and other actors / actresses are likely unthinkingly reading their scripts just like Obama reads his teleprompter.

Such a douchebag. I remember when Oceans 2356 (the one with Ellen Barkin Mad) was coming out, and Diane "Pills & Whine" Sawyer had the cast splayed out in a big ersatz living room.

Damon just had to spout off on politics, and I distincly remember Clooney glaring at him and Pitt giving him that snide 'you're a douchebag' look. Doesn't mean anything -- if anything, given they're all allied on Libtard politics, it only meant don't make promoting a sub-par Oceans movie that much harder ... but sometimes those snapshots stay with you...

Why is it wealthy liberals don’t understand that if they want to pay more income taxes, they can . . .

For Matt Damon, and other rich liberals, it's not about THEM paying more in taxes. They are not interested in what THEY pay in to the federal government. They are interested in forcing OTHERS pay more in taxes.

F*** these limo liberals and the hypocritical BS. They remind me of Judge Schmells from Caddyshack where the judge’s condescension is so obvious. Talking about how you need to be kept down - Society needs ditch diggers. I have my success and the fruits of it and I damn will make sure you don’t succeed yourself.

Make up Business cards with the Gift Contribution to the US government info and keep them in your wallet - anytime someone near you starts to crying that they should be taxed more, hand them a card . Fun AND educational!

front of the card: How do I make a contribution to the U.S. government? Citizens who wish to make a general donation to the U.S. government may send contributions to a specific account called “Gifts to the United States.” Money deposited into this account is for general use by the federal government and can be available for budget needs. These contributions are considered an unconditional gift to the government.

back of the business card:

Financial gifts can be made by check or money order payable to the United States Treasury and mailed to the address below. Gifts to the United States U.S. Department of the Treasury Credit Accounting Branch 3700 East-West Highway, Room 622D Hyattsville, MD 20782

This is one of the biggest disconnects I witness on a day-to-day basis...the claims by liberals that we all need to pay more and the insurmountable difficulty they have actually writing a check to the IRS.

Damon is a big liar. Surely he has a team of accountants and lawyers who ensure that he pays as little tax as he can. If he wanted to pay more, he could just not take any deductions.

Everytime I hear his name, I think of the guys from South Park “Team America”. Matt Damon doesn’t have alot of influence. That’s a good thing.

The net worth of all the bleeding-heart Hollyweird and the other wholly weird libs must number in the trillions. I'm sure all those libs could live on a lot less money. By the way Damon, how do you and your equally liberal Hollyweird establishment morons feel about charging so much to go to one of your awful movies? Don't you think the poor and oppressed should be able to see your rot without having to pay an arm and a leg? The wife and I haven't gone to a movie in ten years, and judging by the crap that's on HBO and Showtime, we haven't miss anything.

p.s. I asked the wife to cancel HBO and Showtime, but she said it's cheaper to keep them as part of our cable bill than to get rid of them. We originally got HBO to watch the Sopranos. There's been little on HBO since The Sopranos went off the bill that's been worth watching. I refuse to watch any of Damon's flicks.

America needs a major, big tax CUT if the economy’s ever to reverse its downwards spiral. But I’m so tired of these silly “I should pay more” remarks by actors that I’d support a great big tax increase just for them. How about it?

Matt & all his Hollyweirdo friends should have benefit concert, call it IRS-AID!

Matt and all his rich friends could donate hundreds of millions and call upon all liberals to donate what they can to save Big Government.

So I need to pay more taxes.

Because libtards are too stupid to know that saving and investing their millions would be better for the economy as a whole in the long run than giving it to the goobermint to waste.
