A knife-wielding man slashed 22 children and an adult at an elementary school in central China on Friday, state media reported, the latest in a series of attacks on schoolchildren in the country.

The man attacked the children at the gate of a school in Chenpeng village in Henan province, the Xinhua news agency reported.

Police arrested a 36-year-old man, identified as villager Min Yingjun, Xinhua said. It did not give further details of the extent of the injuries.

There have been a series of attacks on schools and schoolchildren around China in recent years, some by people who have lost their jobs or felt left out of the country's economic boom.

The rash of violence has prompted public calls for more measures to protect the young in a country where many couples only have one child.

In 2010, a man slashed 28 children, two teachers and a security guard in a kindergarten in eastern China.

It's never been an issue of choice of weapons for those wishing to do serious carnage. It's simply been a matter of their heart and lack of any moral conscience. Because of this it is our duty to protect our selves and loved ones with weapons capable of self defense equal too or above that of the perp.

This incident and the incident this morning would have been just as deadly had the perps walked in with a can of gasoline and a lighter. That is what many refuse to grasp when they scream take up all the guns off the street. Guns are our main defense against more events such as this tragic one today.

Strange. . .this event occurring parallel to the horrible unfolding in Sandy Hook Elementary in Ct. Doubt those on the 'gun trail' will give this much attention. Am wondering if Oregon Mall shooting was 'somehow' a 'spark'. . . at the least; for what happened in our Country; per Connecticut.

That said;no one can be immune to the pain and sadness of such mindless, loss.

Prayers; prayers up. . .there is, now; a relentless suffering upon all these families.

Find a bridge, jump off. Just please leave the children alone.
