WASHINGTON -- U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D., N.J.) renewed his call for new laws to combat gun violence following today's school shooting in Newtown, Conn.
"This is a day of great sadness in America, and our hearts go out to the victims and their families. This latest shooting tragedy is an unthinkable act of violence carried out against young children and innocent people. Americans are sick and tired of these attacks on our children and neighbors and they are sick and tired of nothing being done in Washington to stop the bloodshed," Lautenberg said in a statement. "If we do not take action to address gun violence, shooting tragedies like this will continue. As President Obama said, we must act now 'regardless of the politics.'"
Lautenberg has often been a lonely voice on gun control, an issue that gets little traction in Washington but that he has steadily pushed. After the summer shooting at a movie theater in Colorado Lautenberg pushed his bill to ban the sale of high-capacity gun magazines.
U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D., Pa.) also broached the topic, though in a less direct way.
"While nothing can relieve the pain of this tragedy, we can work to prevent these situations from happening again by engaging in a serious conversation about the issue of gun violence in our country," Schwartz said in a statement. "Today is a day for mourning the loss of the victims and for coming together as Americans to provide support for the community."
Several other local lawmakers, including Sen. Bob Casey (D., Pa) and U.S. Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R., Pa.) have sent out messages of sadness and condolences, though without making any remarks on gun laws.
Yet not one word about the 52 million babies who have had a hole drilled in their skull, their brain sucked out and their bodies burned.
Yep ... “Never let a Crisis go to waste”
A similar event took place in Scotland several years ago. The UK has gun laws as strict as possible, but that did not prevent that massacre of many young children.
Honestly, I thought that old geezer-crook was dead.
It never ceases to amaze me that the left jumps at the change to punish the innocent for the crimes of another. Some whack job shoots up a school and multiple millions of people that had nothing to do with the shooting are all the target of punishment. We live in an upside down world.
As stated in Atlas Shrugged, the only way to control an innocent man is through exploiting their feelings of guilt. The left uses this for gun control, immigration, race, environment, and many other of their causes. I for one refuse to play this game and no push back very hard when this is attempted on me. I notice others doing the same.
Time is on our side. I'm looking forward to the day I read his obituary.
Hey Lautenberg; guns don’t kill people, people do. Don’t believe that? OK; Obama didn’t kill Bin Laden, guns did.
Lautenbergs’s bill is what caused gun free school zone’s zones.
Maybe Lautenberg could be so kind as to point out places - cities, states, anywhere where gun control has worked. There's a reason these animals/killers - evil ones on anti-depressants choose schools - schools are 'gun free' zones. Killers KNOW they'll be the only one armed. Liberals have created 'safe slaughter' places for these killers...
My error it was Bubba Klinton who signed into GFSZ ‘s in 1995 or 6, Lautenberg proposed spousal abuse as a felony.
All democrats should turn in their guns. They can’t be trusted with basic Constitutional issues so giving up their 2nd amendment rights shouldn’t bother them in the least.
