As a Newtown resident, parent, and law abiding gun owner…
Vanity ^ | Dec. 15, 2012 | DTogo

Posted on 12/15/2012 9:23:21 AM PST by DTogo

Yesterday was the dark day always in the far corner of my head, and only brought to the forefront when friends or family sometimes ask why I carry a hand gun on simple everyday errands and activities. My answer is two-fold; because it's my Constitutional Right to do so, and there are a lot of crazy people out there in the world today, maybe even in Newtown.

That once back-of-the-mind thought was also there everyday as my youngest boards the bus to spend about 7 hours in a completely defenseless environment where teachers and parents are not allowed to “carry” on public school grounds. From this coming Monday onward, it will be front and center, 24/7, 365.

It's high time we admit that evil exists, and “feel-good” gun laws restricting the 2nd Amendment Right of law-abiding citizens have NOT, do NOT, and will NOT prevent determined criminals and sociopaths from obtaining guns and using them.

Assuming there will be town meetings or new legislation at the local/state level, with the support of like-minded Newtown parents I have spoken with, I will be advocating for the following:
- Allow parents with a CT pistol permit to conceal carry when visiting the school grounds of their children’s district.
- Solicit volunteers and designate certain school staff as security “first responders” willing and able to procure a CT pistol permit, if they don’t have one already, and regularly train with local law enforcement if not recreationally shoot with the parents of their students.
- We don’t need more gun laws such as the previously failed attempt in CT to ban “high capacity” magazines, nor metal detectors at the doorway, or a cop in every school. Gun laws continually fail to prevent this and many other horrible crimes committed by evil persons with no regard for the law to begin with, just ask Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
- And finally, we are witnessing what happens when you replace foundational Judeo-Christian values in the classroom with the fallible, secular “wisdom” of man (and woman… to be PC).

My youngest was in temporary lock down yesterday at one of the schools in the Newtown district. The Castle Doctrine and associated equipment that protects my family at home does not extend to the classroom. As parents and citizens we must not, and I will not, relinquish our unalienable right to self defense.

Always call on St. Michael the Archangel if you find yourself in that kind of situation. Possibly the music teacher who hid the 15 children received some angelic assistance?

May God comfort you, your family, your community, and this nation. What happened in Newtown hurts our entire society. May the Lord somehow, someway bring something good out of this horrible tragedy, as only He can.

Great post. Every week at our local abortion mill, 35 members of the Kindergarten class of 2018 are murdered. May God have mercy on this nation.

“we are witnessing what happens when you replace foundational Judeo-Christian values in the classroom with the fallible, secular “wisdom” of man (and woman…)”

Exactly!

And there’s one more reason for this violence. Several years ago the medical profession said we didn’t have to lock up crazy people. They just had to take their medication. Then we found out that some medications caused young people to get violent. Another problem is getting them to take their medications. So, another failure in the politically correct world.

Some resources on school threats for consideration. (There’s some old news here, but evil, terrorism and massacres never go out of style.)

It will be interesting to compare the “lessons learned” from the Newtown, CT shootings to those of Ma’alot, Israel.

On 15 May 1974, members of Yasser Arafat's “Religion of Peace” attacked the Israeli settlement of Ma’alot. By the time the IDF was able to respond and eliminate the threat, 31 Israels were dead, 22 of them children, and 70 wounded. The ROP lost 3 confirmed and perhaps more.

After the attack, there was much soul searching in Israel of what to do. As usual, the Left sought to make things worse by denying arms to the victims of the attack to demonstrate to the Muslim thugs the Jews weren't a threat to them. However, smarter heads prevailed. Settlements like Ma’alot were armed to the teeth. Teachers were armed. Parents with arms stood guard and teens with marksmanship skills were enlisted as a ready reaction force (along with teachers and parents) until the IDF could arrive. No further attacks to Jewish settlements occurred because the Muslims were afraid they'd lose too many of their murderous ilk.

What Newtown, CT has to do is harden the target and not make them “free fire zones” for disarmed victims as is now the case.

See Faith's Post #24 which, along with yours, should be emphasized in order to bring context to the devastating event in your community yesterday.

Emotional rhetoric from national, state and local political leaders about one disturbed individual's act which destroyed the lives and liberties of these 20 young innocents remind us that many of these leaders' ideology and policies devalue Creator-endowed life and liberty for millions of other innocents in the womb for whom no tears are shed either by them or the special interest groups who elect them.

Let’s not blame the mother, who is also a victim here.

With so many rumors, we really don't know if this manchild was autistic or any other medical problem.

Perhaps he was just fed up with a mother who would not let him have his way on something. Mother dead.

Menendez brothers come to mind.

I’m curious if the Newtown mom bought the guns for her ‘autistic’ son.

***************

Don’t know about if she bought any guns for Adam but according to this and other articles I’ve read she owned guns, collected, etc. One article I read is that Adam tried a few days ago to buy a rifle but couldn’t or didn’t because of the waiting time.

Nancy Lanza legally owned a Sig Sauer and a Glock, both handguns of models commonly used by police, and a military-style Bushmaster .223 M4 carbine, according to law enforcement officials who also believe Adam Lanza used at least some of those weapons.

“We’re investigating the history of each and every weapon and we will know every single thing about those weapons,” Vance said.

Nancy Lanza was an avid gun collector who once showed him a “really nice, high-end rifle” that she had purchased, said Dan Holmes, owner of a landscaping business who recently decorated her yard with Christmas garlands and lights. “She said she would often go target shooting with her kids.”

The mother had five guns registered to her name, two of which Adam Lanza used to carry out the execution-style killings

Exactly. Better to have a gun and not need it, than to need a gun and not have it.

Yep, the criminal in this case already broke existing and ineffective CT gun laws:

- posession of a hand gun without a permit
- posession of a firearm on school property.
