Transgender player attains college basketball first

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The women’s basketball team at Mission College expected the bleachers to be full and the hecklers ready when its newest player made her home court debut.

In the days leading up to the game, people had plenty to say about 6-foot-6-inch, 220-pound Gabrielle Ludwig, who joined the Lady Saints as a mid-season walk-on and became, according to advocates, the first transsexual to play college hoops as both a man and a woman.

According to the local sports talk station, the NCAA does not check that female athletes actually are females (unlike the IOC).

They do check for steroids. What I was unclear on was whether the allowable testosterone level was any higher for males than for females.

Talk about your selfish asshole...

If I could walk on and play a college sport, I wouldn’t do it. It’s the time of the people that age. It’s their right of passage.

If he/she/it/whatever the hell, wants to play sports, let bozo find an adult league and try out there.

What self-respecting person would try to horn in on the kids league? Here we have another gender/sexual focused narcissist doing what some of them are prone to do, seek self-gratification beyond all reason.

One of these things is not like the others . . .

There is no way I would allow my daughter to play on a team that was forced to share a locker room with this man (I don't care what he thinks he is he is still a man and way to grown for this selfish foolishness ) I would have to take my child out of this school instantly and I sure as heck would not be paying any money to a school that did this. This is beyond abusive and it's just plain wrong to expose these young women to this.

Why dosn’t the story tell the truth.

They have a dickless man playing basketball with the girls.

There is no such thing as transgendered. Only mutilated human beings.

The current standard, called “the Stockholm consensus,” involves that the transexual must have sex altering surgery AND hormone treatment sufficient to remove the advantage that men have relative to women in many sports. Admittedly, the second criterion involves an arbitrary cut-off point along a continuum.

One of the way stations in this evolution was the “female at birth” criterion. This rule didn’t work so well as there are some persons who actually are “intersex” at birth (quite rare). There also are others whose genetics and hormones are clearly male or female at birth but whose self-image is or becomes the other way, whom the majority in society want to accommodate.

I myself think the “female at birth” criterion combined with the Stockholm rules for those very few people people who actually are intersex would be sufficient in sports where men have a natural advantage over women.

I think the way I would accommodate transexuals in sports in which men have an advantage, is to have them compete with the males.

I wonder if this would be such a big deal if he/she weren't 6' 6". Incidentally, Iowa State has a female basketball player who is 6' 7" and not as dominant as you might imagine. Her name is Anna Prins.

According to the local sports talk station, the NCAA does not check that female athletes actually are females (unlike the IOC).

The Olympics dropped routine gender verification in 1999. In fact, the IOC now allows transsexuals who have completed gender reassignment surgery (with certain qualifiers) to compete. The IAAF dropped gender verification in 1992. Both reserve the right to verify gender in individual cases, but after the Caster Semenya case . . . it's not likely, IMO.

This is not a woman, but a man.

But it’s a good thing she/he plays for a woman’s basketball team, cuz it may show a few clear-thinking people that this “transgender” nonsense is not a reality.

It is not possible to change one’s sex.

But I thought that men and women are really just the same. Isn’t that why they demanded to be hired as firemen, police and soldiers?

But I thought that they are really different. Isn’t that why there are separate men’s and women’s baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, tennis etc teams?

Which is it?

This person is enabled by liberal progressivism. Only with them will you find the enabling of confusion to everything and everyone.

This MAn is a MAN who is CHOOSING to be transgendered and is CHOOSING on PURPOSE to do what HE is doing. HE is NOT a SHE no matter what HE thinks., I am sickend by such people and by the liberals who not only enable them bu encourage them. I would never let my daughter near suc a MAN.

I didn’t realize that....what prompted the discussion was when Brittany Griner(sp?) from Baylor dropped out of the Olympic Team...there were some rumors she was a guy.

I don't know the full details, but competitors still have some ability to request testing of a fellow competitor, and individual athletes can be tested. Santhi Soundarajan was banned from running as a woman this summer.

How do you decide whether someone's a woman?

A month before the 2012 London Olympic Games the IOC announced that the ability to compete as a woman will would be defined by chromosomes, DNA or genitals but by androgen levels.

Here's a decent ESPN story about gender identity and sports. Complete Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, ambiguous genitals, internal sex organs that don't match external ones, an extra chromosome such as men with an XXY combination, and more.

Sorry. Should be "the ability to compete as a woman would not be defined by chromosomes . . ."

No matter how mutilated he’s made his body, or disabled by unnatural hormones, this man has the advantage of larger bones and muscles formed by male anatomy.

This is significantly unfair to the real females—esp. on other teams or his own.
