Terrible news today. When will politicians find courage to ban automatic weapons? As in Oz after similar tragedy. - Rupert Murdoch | Twitter
News Corp. chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch expressed support for an automatic weapons ban tonight following today's shooting in Newtown, Conn.
"Terrible news today. When will politicians find courage to ban automatic weapons?," Murdoch wrote on Twitter.
Murdoch made a similar call following the theater shooting in Aurora, Colo., in July: "We have to do something about gun controls. Police license okay for hunting rifle or pistol for anyone without crim or pscho record. No more," he tweeted.
News Corp. owns Fox News, where contributors have been objecting to calls for gun control throughout the day.
Lots of booklets out there tell how...guess we need to ban books.
“They werent actually banned. The congress purposely didnt do an outright ban because they thought the Supreme Court would declare the law unconstitutional.”
Technically they aren’t banned, correct. In practice they are all but banned. First there are significant hurdles to jump through before you can buy one legally.
Secondly, the restrictions on which weapons can be purchased have caused their prices to skyrocket. Putting them out of reach for the majority of the population.
This ignorant limo-liberal elitist does not connect the Left’s effor to ban Fox to their effort to ban the second amendement. Banning the constitution is the Leftist “liberal” cause. Going Chi-com like GE?
“We need to get these folks in mental hospitals! They need to be rounded up and locked away for their own good. Once this was commonit needs to be re-instated...We need to take care of people who are nuts. Lots of people need these institutionsnow.”
Well stated...we need to round up all the narcissist left nuts in office first...starting with those in the White Hut, the one in NYC City Hall, all of their left nut lamestream media shills...institutionalise them now!
Not really something to joke about in a public forum these days. The walls have ears. And eyes too.
For some unknown reason, I’ve been watching FNC coverage of the shootings..
Bill Hemmer’s sappy stories are just too much. Shouldn’t this be called what it is? Exploitation: an unnecessary focus on grieving families all for the sake of ratings.
And anyone who fell for the faux crying that Bamster supposedly did on national TV the other day is a fool.
Sorry Rog, Rupie, Bill and the Blonds: this is sickening and I’m atta here.
I will grieve for the loss of those innocent children without your help, thank you. I know how to pray.
Maybe ‘National Lampoon Vacation” is on tonight.
I call on Rupert to support a Federal Ban on Evil...however I warn you there would be a severe lack of politicians left in DC. Tiny details...
What cripplecreek said.
I am willing to make one, and only one, exception to the First Amendment when it comes to political speech. I believe that once you have an armed bodyguard you should be required to keep your piehole shut about access to firearms. I’m pretty sure Rupert has an armed bodyguard.
almost nobody has an automatic weapon because of the extra paperwork and extra few hundred bucks.
the guy in this shooting had no automatic weapons. murdoch fail...
(get ready for it)...
Oral Flatulence from the Jerk from Australia who had his henchmen help defeat conservative candidates and replace them with a flip-flopping RINO destined to loose.
Banning Semi-Automatic Weapons will NEVER take them out of the hands of lunatics and criminals - just law abiding citizens. FURTHER, when such a ban does NOT work, they will be coming after every other gun anyone owns.
THis is not logic, its emotion, And the world’s BIGGEST Emotion Pimp, Barack Hussein Obama, is ALREADY triangulating to try and disarm America using this and similar human tragedies for his own nefarious and evil ends.
These @$$h@les just don’t get it. The right to keep and bear arms is the last defense against tyranny. Hitler proved that in Germany when he confiscated guns.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident......governments are instituted among men deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever a government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it...”
one of the MOST IMPORTANT PHRASES in the Declaration, and, of course IMPOSSIBLE without access to firearms. And the Emotion Pimp in the White House knows it.
Yep. The next overreaching law they pass, might be the straw that broke the long-suffering camel’s back.
Would you surrender your semi-auto pistols and rifles, if so ordered?
I wouldn’t, and neither would millions of us. The statists might be calculating that this is just the crisis they need, to totally crack down on and smash the “bitter clingers.”
Classic overreach. A law too far.
Can’t stand sweet drinks and I like to stay warm and dry
Criminals and assassins often use guns to commit their crimes because they are in fact the most effective and also most convenient means to their ends.
They are also the most effective way to prevent criminal activity and this is not just for convenience.
Even if we lived in a total dictatorship with all weapons banned, the criminal element would still find all the weapons they would ever need.
I have read that one reason Robert Bruce defeated the English at Bannockburn despite being outnumbered 3 to 1, was that many of the Scottish fighters used their farming tools as weapons. Since they used them on a daily basis they were very familiar with how they handled.
A screwdriver makes a fine dagger, a kitchen knife works on people too. A bucket of gasoline and a match would likely kill everyone in a schoolroom. An axe is a fearsome weapon as is a short shovel, a pitchfork or a hiking stick.
Gun control not only doesn’t prevent crime, it helps the criminal element while harming the innocent.
I do not intend to turn my guns over either, assuming that I have any which would be made illegal.
On the other hand I also don’t intend to stand in the door with my rifle and dare them to come and get them.
The whole subject could spark a lot of ideas and discussions. I don’t think the old “I lost them in a boating accident” would work either.
Saying I needed the money and sold them at gun shows etc. might be believed. I am sure others have better ideas than I do as to elude them. In the end it just might be a firefight which I know I would lose but there would be a lot of ideas tried before it came to that.
If I and a lot of others made the job too dangerous that might be enough, even tho many of us would lose our life.
Or Mr. Murdoch, no amount of gun control laws would have stopped a demon possed gun shooter who was intent on slaugthering little children and their teachers.
