Senate Judiciary Chairman: Let’s Legalize 1 Oz. of Pot Nationwide
Cybercast News Service ^ | December 14, 2012 | Pete Winn

The Democratic chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee says he plans to hold a hearing in January to consider changing federal drug laws to allow people to possess up to one ounce of marijuana.

On Thursday, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) released a letter that he sent earlier this month to Gil Kerlikowske, the director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), asking the nation’s drug czar how the administration intends to proceed now that two states have legalized marijuana use. …

I support it not because I use it (I confess I inhaled it in the late 60s, early 70s), but because I’m tired of paying for double standards and the government telling us what we can and can not do. This is about enforcing mickey mouse laws that cost us billions in law enforcement and incarceration costs just as prohibition did.

The next big crunch in government overreach will be to go after our firearms. We need to be prepared for that fight because ultimately it is about the media brainwashing and turning average people into serfs who will attempt to overturn the Constitution for the elite that want disarmed.

I’ll guarantee you that Wall St, Hollywood and DC big wigs are using marijuana at will and no one ever throws them into jail. This is a little person crime.

Obama has essentially declared another federal law (about marijuana) null and void,

Even worse, he will selectively enforce the law. Friends caught with pot will be let free. Political enemies will be prosecuted tot he fullest extent of the law.

Most marijuana decriminalization laws are ridiculous. You can have a small amount of pot, but you can't grow it for yourself and it is illegal to be sold. Thus you get a combination of the worst parts of an intoxicated populous and the ongoing black markets and war on drugs.

Either legalize it or don't. But don't screw around with the half way measure.

Obamugabe has a difficult time following the script when he's not using a teleprompter.

What I still don't understand is why he sent that kid in Connecticut out to kill all the little kids ~

I’m in favor of some legalizing myself. This is clearly a case of the cure worse than the disease.

A doped-up populace is a compliant populace. Big-government statists seem to be waking up to trading the power-growing benefits of the “war on drugs” to the potentially larger power-growing benefits of being a dope peddler.

You got that right. In fact, I believe that’s the intent. God help us.

Leftwing jackass pretending to be libertarian...

These proponents of deregulating THC give the impression they’re for smaller govt, but in actuality, they’re pandering Leftwing assholes. Smaller govt is a vexing proposition to these control freaks.

Plus, I’ve always been squeamish enough about the government profiting off of lotteries. But to profit off of dope-peddling? Good grief. It would be hard for me to regard such a government as having any moral legitimacy whatsoever. Well not hard. Impossible.

And like any good Alinskyite, it’s all part of a deliberate strategery.

I know many voters (and I’m sure you do too) who vote Conservative based on social issues, even though in their heart they lean Left on economic ones. This describes the typical Catholic voter here in Pittsburgh pretty well. Barry is on a mission to totally defuse those social issues by 2016.

Gay Marriage? Already a done deal with 14 million queer couples and rising. Abortion? Totally paid for under national health care. Marijuana? Legal in any state that chooses to decriminalize.

Once these voters look and see that all the social issues they care about are settled and lost, and there is no putting the toothpaste back in the tube, they are going to be free to go back to voting their Liberal instincts on the economy. And they will.

I looked at that headline and thought, “Man! Try to divide that up among 340 million people... you won’t even get one hit out of it.”

My first thoughts as well, almost down to the word.

local Gubmints and attorneys make way too much from those drug classes and fines and lawyer fees to ever let this happen.

do this....watch for BAC limit to go down to .04 to make up for the revenue loss

How do you okay 1 oz. of pot without okaying the sale of larger amounts for sale? Somebody selling the stuff has to have more than 1 oz. in his possession. The Democrats are either stupid or evil.

And since stoned people can’t be trusted with guns, it would finally make sense to do away with that pesky 2nd amendment!

Peasants shouldn’t have guns anyway...

It should be easy for Barry. He could take the 1 ounce of pot, a family size bag of Cheetos and a 40-ouncer of Colt 45 up the hill to Fort Reno Park. He could then divide it up among the 340 million Americans and use the left overs to feed Mexico for a week. After all, he is the Black Messiah! -(sarc)-

I think we will legalize it. We should have provisions for retards in there. Either they support themselves or go to prison. No welfare for pot users.

It makes for super dysfunctional citizens. Big Pot will make victims out of users if we fail to address that in legalization leglislation. If you want welfare, make the choice to stay off of pot. Drug tests.

I’ve got a better idea: limit the Federal role in dealing with psychoactive substances (or any other material goods for that matter) to the plain meaning of the Commerce Clause, not its expansion in Wickard. Let the Feds ban the importation of whatever and forbid transport across state lines for the purpose of selling if they want, but let the states decide what they want to allow or criminalize within their borders.

That there’s funny, I don’t care who you are!

I thought it was “interesting” that a lot of folks seem to want to “legalize” it, however it seems that what they are most interested in are tax receipts - e.g. money. I think in Washington state, “they” made sure that individuals cannot grow their own, at home, or whatever for personal consumption.

This is truly a schizophrenic nation. Believe it or not, there was one (1) good bill that J.E. Carter signed into law - ending prohibition era laws, ah, prohibiting home brewed beer. I don’t smoke pot, this should be handled the same way. Let people grow their own weed at home (but not sell it, just as alcohol sales are unlawful) and they won’t be criminals anymore, and are mostly harmless anyway. Useless, maybe, but that’s another issue.

Thanks Olog-hai.

They already plan to have a federal imprimatur on homosexual unions, federalizing legal pot will seal the deal between the Demagogic Party and the “libertarians”.
