Banning gun-free zones and allowing teachers to carry concealed weapons could help eliminate mass shootings at schools, gun-control expert John R. Lott told Newsmax in an exclusive interview Saturday.
Lott, an author and college professor, told Newsmax that gun-free zones become “a magnet” for deranged killers who hope to burn their names into the history books by running up a big body count.
Lott’s landmark book "More Guns, Less Crime: Understanding Crime and Gun Control Laws" is in its 3rd edition. He told Newsmax there is a “very good chance” the Connecticut school shooting could have been averted, if teachers there were permitted to carry concealed handguns.
It is no accident, he said, that mass shootings repeatedly have occurred in designated gun-free zones, which attract lunatics looking to murder as many souls as possible before they turn their guns on themselves.

No kidding....
Teachers have to be armed here, just like they are armed in Israel. Every teacher in Israel carries a gun, its the norm over there and no one makes a fuss..yes Israel its a different way of life but they are protecting themselves in the exact same way we should be protecting ourselves here
Most teachers are liberals who faint at the sight of a gun. IMHO, tt would be better to hire retired policemen and military types who know their way around firearms to protect the kids.
I’d settle for opening back up the mental institutions and locking all the crazy people up like they should be.
Also, seems like a lot of the mass shooting involve caucasians shooting caucasians. I haven't read too many stories of Blacks or Hispanics shooting their own for what seems like no reason. The only exception would be the killings in Mexico. However, most of that is drug-trafficking related, isn't it?
The Israelis have us all beat to hell on keeping terrorists off airplanes and keeping school kids safe. Maybe someday we’ll wake up.
Guess what? Liberals have so brainwashed our country that I would bet ANY amount of money that the LIBERAL teachers would NOT carry. Liberals are lilly livered cowards and would NEVER pack. My brother is a liberal and a coward, hates any kind of “confrontation”. Also, the young brainwashed skulls of university mush, believe that no one should ever own a gun because of the astounding numbers of “accidental” deaths from gun which FAR outweigh the help guns give; I’ve heard that from so many newly graduated kids that I guess it’s the truth! We’re toast.
The fact is, mass killing is rare. We can't have perfection in this world. Arming teachers is not a bad idea, but it will be very disappointing when it fails to deter or stop aggression.

NO, no retired police types. The guard needs to be physically fit, agile, fast and a crack shot. A retired cop doesn’t fit that bill. Shooters tend to be young and fast. A guard as physically fit as the shooter is vitally important. Otherwise, add one dead guard to the rest of the dead.

Honestly, I wouldn’t expect them to. It would be useless to arm and train people who are not inclined to protect themselves in the first place. But it would be illogical not to arm those who are willing.
That's OK, we conservative teachers would carry and save their *sses in the process!
Just a humble opinion here....but as stressed out and frustrated that most American teachers in urban schools are....I’d consider them to be as big a threat as some nut entering the school. Arming them might not be a safe strategy.
You'd be better off arming the janitor than the teachers. We have armed guards on planes, why not schools?
These facts are known by the politicians.
These side effects have been acknowledged by the drug companies.
One begins to wonder if the fascists in our gov’t - who know the first step in taking over a country is the necessity of stripping citizens of their guns - didn't go to the drug companies and make a deal to develop these drugs - for this purpose. The fact that these gun-controllers, from the president on down, were loud and clear in demanding gun-control, using this tragedy for their agenda, while those little bodies were still in that school speaks volumes!
Yes, such evil exists. It operates on such high levels because decent people can't conceive of such raw evil.
We need to acknowledge it.
We need to let our politicians and media KNOW we know - and know THEY know - and demand they answer us individually.
BAN THESE DRUGS...and those that demand gun-control. They are even more dangerous.
