Exit polls: LDP projected to win Japan election
CNN ^

The Liberal Democrat Party was poised to return to power in Japan on Sunday, with exit polls projecting a sweeping victory in the general election.

Exit polls from CNN affiliate NHK show that the Liberal Democrat Party, or LDP -- led by former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe -- won the majority of votes in the country's lower house election. The projected results, which indicate the party captured at least 275 of 480 house seats, would give the party another stab at power three years after it was unceremoniously dumped for the Democrat Party of Japan, or DPJ.

..it’s time to reset the clock back to the good old pork barrel LDP days. But the REAL winners today are the wealthy (elderly) and vested interests (that would be the conservative party of Japan...)

The LDP is the more conservative of the two main parties in Japan and had a monopoly on power for the decades of Japan’s recovery and rise from the fifties on. The Democratic Party of Japan is left of center. I once met their former party head and PM (for less than a year) Yukio Hatoyama. So this election was a turn to the right. Party labels can be deceptive.

The Liberal Democratic Party is as conservative as it gets in Japan. Other choices are the Democratic Party of Japan, Tomorrow Party of Japan, New Komeito Justice Party, Your Party, Japanese Communist Party, Social Democratic Party, People's New Party, New Party Daichi – True Democrats, Green Wind, New Renaissance Party, New Party Nippon, Okinawa Socialist Masses Party.

It's true democracies tend not to starts wars: because they are bankrupt from socialism and can't afford to.

The LDP is the conservative party in Japan. In Japan “Liberal” has a diffrent meaning than here. My wife is Japanese and she is excited about this election. She says the next Prime Minister is VERY conservative. Hopefully the LDP learned their lesson about spending unlike our squishy RINOS here. At least the LDP won't take any crap from the norks or china.

“Liberal Democrat Party, or LDP — led by former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe”

The LDP is Japan’s equivalent of the Republican Party. Is Shinzo Japanese for “honest”? : )

Ah, what do you mean by “conservative”? The dictionary definition of resisting change? Or the political philosophy represented by constiutionalism, free markets, freedom and representative government?

“So this election was a turn to the right. Party labels can be deceptive.”

Thanks, I’ve followed Japan for decades - I was just having some fun with their party names. I do hope they pull out of their economic mess and get their act together for China, before it’s too late.

Well, Japan will “turn to the right,” in other words choose a government that will do nothing about its huge welfare state.

Pensions will go down for sure and maybe even public work projects. But this was essentially a referendum on whether or not Japan should continue nuclear power. And, guess what? The opposition couldn’t come up with a viable replacement energy source so they chose nuclear power.

“conservative” can mean anything in different countries.

When Tokyo outlaws possession of kiddie porn, I’ll believe they are “moving to the right”

Yup.

It has had the “desired” effect. U-15 shops are everywhere and youths now think underage prostitution is just another way to earn some pocket money. Mommy and daddy perverts are selling pics and vids of their own daughters (at any age) in the skimpiest thongs and sexual poses for money.

Doesn’t affect us too much. We need to concentrate on ourselves for awhile. That is our problem...worrying about everyone else.
