Time for Schools to be Gun-free Free
American Thinker ^ | 12/16/2012 | Selwyn Duke

If there's anything the Newtown massacre has proven, it's that school zones billed as "gun-free" cannot be guaranteed to thus be.

They're only virtually certain to be good-guy-gun-free. And it's time for this symbolism-over-substance policy to end.

The fact is that we're making the good easy prey for the wicked, and this has been acknowledged by some current and former law-enforcement officials. As Vice President and Public Information Officer of the National Association of Chiefs of Police Jim Kouri writes:

********

[F]ormer police detective Mike Snopes believes that gun free zones invite killers.

"The killer in [Newtown] came armed for bear and couldn't care less about some gun law. The school's anti-gun law prevented any adults working at the school from having access to a firearm. If the school's principal had been armed and trained, she might have saved many lives. Had several people been armed at that school, the shooter, suspect Adam Lanza, would have possibly been stopped at the front door by a hale [sic] of bullets," said the former NYPD detective.

[...]According to former Arizona Sheriff Richard Mack, "The [Newtown] suspect goes to the principal's office while the announcements are playing, over the PA, to the whole school. Everyone in the school hears shots being fired. Had teachers or school employees been armed, instead of fleeing and allowing the killer to walk around the facility unimpeded, the school staff could have surrounded the madman and ended the attack....

********

Adding to the case against gun-free zones is NYPD Detective John Baeza, who "noted that the location of the Colorado movie theater shootings occurred at a large shopping mall that was a gun free zone," writes Kouri.

From Charles C.W. Cooke a the National Review:

“There are at least two hundred million privately owned guns in America, and Connecticut regulates access to them more strictly than most. To believe that yesterday’s crime could have been prevented, you have to presume either that a man willing to go to such grievous lengths could have been deterred from doing so by stronger laws, or that those stronger laws could rid America of privately available guns completely — thus making the killer’s task an impossible one. I believe neither thing. To pass a law is not to achieve its aims, and one suspects that any attempt at gun control in America — which outlaws and the deranged will naturally ignore — would be destined to be filed next to Prohibition and the War on Drugs in the annals of man’s folly.”

Ezra Klein has observed, “of the 12 deadliest shootings in U.S. history, six have taken place since 2007.” This is a separate problem. What is causing this is not yet known and probably under-investigated, but it is certainly not guns.

The American republic stood for almost two hundred years before the first school shooting occurred. Something is awry, to be sure; to blame guns is a mistake.

Lizzy Borden killed her mother with an ax many times. I don’t recall banning axes after that tragedy....Oh and that was in the 1800’s (or at least a long time ago).

If Connectticut were purged from the Republic, the citizens would no longer need to worry about the second amendment. Their new constitution could create the Animal Farm they truly long for

It was a bombing, not a shooting, but the first school massacre took place in 1927. And it is still the deadliest.

To yours add this: The earliest known United States shooting to happen on school property was the Pontiac’s Rebellion school massacre on July 26, 1764, where four Lenape American Indians entered the schoolhouse near present-day Greencastle, Pennsylvania, shot and killed schoolmaster Enoch Brown, and killed nine or ten children (reports vary). Only three children survived.[1]

Ummmm, let me think. Would a criminal give a crap about a law? A gun free zone would encourage a murderous nut!

A ‘gun free or drug free’ zone sign works ONLY with the people that obey laws etc.

Those signs are along the scope of ‘certain people’ saying

“Why were the deer crossing the highway there? The designated area for them to cross is half a mile up the road, where the signs are”.

All that gun control liberals have done is to attempt to disarm law abiding citizens while making it “safer” for non-law abiding citizens to rob and kill law abiding citizens.

The main brain defect in liberals is that they think criminals obey laws.

It’s kind of like their own upbringing as children where their liberal parents shouted over and over again “IF YOU DO THAT AGAIN I’M GOING TO SPANK YOU” but never did.

Today’s liberal (unlike ma and pa of old) think the solution to a child disregarding direction is to simply put the article in question high enough on the shelf so they can’t get to it...never mind that they have been directed not to touch....for that phrase is never used in today’s society.

In comes the attempt to “put the object out of reach rather than to punish the offender” A perfect example of that is to put guns out of reach of everyone with the expectation that we will now live in Utopia with unicorns and with happiness ever after.

"...A perfect example of that is to put guns out of reach of everyone with the expectation that we will now live in Utopia with unicorns and with happiness ever after...."

Spot on....liberals and secular humanists (atheists most) do not factor in human evil...because most deny God in the first place, and His teachings....

They think that evil human beings can be "taught" or "re-habilitated" to be nice, never understanding that the sinful heart must be redeemed. This is what they reject: God's salvation, because, like Lucifer, they seek to be equal with God and can never come to terms with sinful nature.

Geez. Why don’t you just make those GUN FREE ZONE signs bigger and in several languages?

I’m guessing except for the killer’s guns, the school was gun-free and was gun-free on a daily basis.
