An Oregon lawmaker contends the massacre that left more than two dozen people dead at a Connecticut elementary school is another "heartbreaking failure" of school personnel to ensure protection, and is a reminder that teachers should be allowed to carry guns in the classroom.

A brave man, to point out the failure of federal and state gun control laws.

He's wrong. Teachers ought to be required to be armed.

If they can't or won't then let 'em go carry the mail or something.

It might make the teacher population lean more conservative...

Legislation to allow this is on Michigan Governor Snyder's desk. Prior to the shootings he indicated he would reluctantly sign it. Now I think he's going to back out.

Arm the janitors, they work for a living and have some grounding in reality. If you arm school teachers, expect that a significant number of them will wound themselves or others during training and range practice, and then forget to carry them at school.

And do we really want the spectacle of armed teachers walking picket lines or negotiating contracts?

But if you arm teachers, you’ll have to change the hiring criteria. No longer will minority status get you the job, you’ll need to be of good moral character and pass a background check. Democrats won’t allow it because it would anger their Union friends.

As pointed out above, I’m having mixed feelings about arming teachers, especially when some of them are doing things like sleeping with their students.

The cry across the nation should be “HOW’S THAT GUN FREE ZONE WORKING OUT FOR YA’.

We know the answer but they don’t.

That’s my biggest concern with arming teachers. A good many of them are overeducated idiots, usually from the left side of the political fence. I’d prefer to see armed security or perhaps mandating that the cities maintain a cop or two on school grounds at all times when kids are present.

In any event, gun-free ain’t working, and the level of security and response is inadequate.

This is imo an opportunity.

Push this issue. Hard.

Do not back down.

Oh no! How did a voice outside the leftist slogan choir get in there?

The second amendment is a fact of life in the US as is the first amendment. Liberals use the first amendment to push evil and sin - envy, racism and sexism, and conservatives promote the second amendment to fend off their aggressive human-animal creation.

Good point, and also, do we really want armed teachers demanding that we have our homework ready to hand in?

And as I just stated on another thread (Sunday Morning Talk) there needs to be accusations of failing to protect the children by the educRATs running the schools...just like there were lawsuits against the owners of that theater that got shot up during the Batman movie.

There needs to be public outcry against these liberal geniuses and their "gun-free zones"...and big money civil suits. Maybe even accusations of being an accessory to murder.

Why keep fooling around?

I had one teacher who was also a constable...he packed every day. His two sons were also on the rifle team. One of my HS English teachers was a NG Infantry LTC, and one of my middle school History teachers had been MACV-SOG.

I would trust any of the them implicitly with a firearm, although the History teacher would have probably preferred to use his bare hands to neutralize any threat.

I remember him going over the school rules at the start of the year. "There's no fighting. If I catch any of you fighting I'm going to end it right there. I'll let you finish after school, and the loser is going to get detention."

“”Teachers don’t go into teaching to be police officers, they want to teach kids,” George said. “In crisis situations there are a lot of very complex things happening all at once and you have to constantly train for deadly force incidents.””

I agree that some training is definitely important, but, on the other hand, if someone is putting lead into little kids, it doesn’t a whole lot of training to figure out that he needs to be stopped.

Why don’t we just allow concealed carry permit holders to carry anywhere? We don’t have to force anyone to carry at schools, but we also don’t prevent anyone from carrying at schools. Seems the best solution as no one knows who is or isn’t armed at any given time.

A brave man indeed.

Here is a patriots response to the insanity.

http://www.frontsight.com

Once again, Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, arguably the world leader in providing intensified courses in the defensive use of firearms for private citizens, has the answer to stopping further attacks on school children. Front Sight will once again offer free firearms training to any school administrator, teachers, or full time staff members designated as school Safety Monitors.

Front Sight will accept for training up to three staff members from each school, college or university.

Applicants must submit a letter requesting training on school letterhead signed by the top school district official and designating the applicant as the school’s Safety Monitor.

Please forward this e-mail to your state and federal legislators, local law enforcement departments and your child’s school administrator, as well as your friends and family, asking them to do the same.
