I don’t deny for one minute the devil and demonic forces are at work. However, Adam Lanza was clearly severely mentally ill. The symptoms were there.
I know about this issue personally and up front. I have a very close person in my family who is mentally ill. Hospitalized six times so far. But it is catch and release with these mental hospitals. They get the patients back on their meds and then release them after a short period. And then worst of all....the hypa laws.....when you call the doctor to find what is really wrong, what the diagnosis is, what the medication is, what the treatment is......they tell you NOTHING bunless the patient signs a release (good for only one year) no matter how close the patient is to you. THIS IS THE REAL ISSUE WHICH NEED TO BE ADDRESSED-—these crazy laws on mental illness. Read the WSJ this morning-—there is an article on this very topic. It nails it: Gun violence is way down in this country. It is the laws and policies on mental illness which need to be addressed in this nation. Guns are not the problem....it is the truly sick people out there not getting the attention they need. The good news is this: The treatment and meds have VASTLY improved over the past few decades. The tough part is getting the patient to stay on his meds and keep his up his doctor’s appointments.
But remember, all forms of illnesses do come from the enemy, be it physical or mental. God wants to heal us and restore us to fullness of health.
But this is akin to saying that the invention of the birth control pill stopped the number of unwanted babies, when just the opposite is true -- the illusion of pharmaceutical control of the very nature of sex and the mainstreaming of marriage-free sex have contributed to a holocaust of abortions and skyrocketing illegitimacy, by giving people the illusion that they could have sex without the adequate socialization and preparation of marriage.
So it is with pharmacological "control" of mental illness, combined with the mainstreaming of mentally ill people into the communities instead of greater depth of love, commitment and sheltering of individuals in therapy, in institutions when necessary and in the home. Relying on a drug to take care of a massive personality problem has resulted in horrors and deaths such as those we have witnessed in this year alone.
Secularism, morality-free scientism and the bottom-line medicalization of spiritual problems are a gigantic FAIL.
