Sen. Manchin Stonewalls on Gun Control: 'Honey ... I'm Not Talking to You Anymore'
breitbart.com ^ | 12-18-2012 | Kerry Picket

Posted on 12/18/2012 9:21:04 AM PST by servo1969

In the wake of the tragedy, Democrats are calling to pass the Assault Weapons Ban. When asked by Breitbart News, Manchin disagreed that his remarks on MSNBC show his stance on the second amendment have flipped. "I didn't change my mind on anything. I think everything is open for discussion." It should be noted that Manchin, also known for breaking campaign promises on tax hikes, may have a difficult time explaining his turnaround on guns to voters in his own state. West Virginia, a state President Obama lost in 2008 and 2012, has one of the highest rate of gun ownership in the country: 55 percent own guns.

“I just came with my family from deer hunting,” Manchin said on MSNBC. “I’ve never had more than three shells in a clip. Sometimes you don’t get more than one shot anyway at a deer. It’s common sense. It’s time to move beyond rhetoric. We need to sit down and have a common-sense discussion and move in a reasonable way.”

Mr. Manchin made no mention of specific restrictions like his fellow Democrats have, he only referred to gun use in terms of hunting and sport and not self-defense.

“I want to call all our friends in the NRA, sit down and have this discussion,” he said. “Bring them into it. They have to be at the table. We all have to,” Manchin explained.

He later added, “I don’t know anyone in the hunting or sporting arena that goes out with an assault rifle,” he said. “I don’t know anybody that needs 30 rounds in the clip to go hunting. I mean, these are things that need to be talked about.”

This whole thing about 30 round magazines and hunting -

I don't have a 30 round mag for hunting. I have it to help insure that I can out-gun anyone who tries to harm my family or myself. When I slam in the mag and hit the bolt release I want as many shots available as possible before the rifle becomes useless. I want to drive away or kill the bad guy. I don't want to have a fair fight. I want to win. Period. It's for killing humans. I'm completely willing to admit that. That's what it was designed for and it can do it very well. I hope I never ever have to use it against a human being but I want the option if necessary. I'm sure I would throw-up after words. I'm actually a tiny bit scared of it but it's respectful fear of what it is capable of and I treat it accordingly. It's a tool. A very dangerous tool to be sure but still a tool. Handle it foolishly and it will kill me. Treat it with respect and it will work for me.

People who want to take my gun are saying 'You are too stupid and/or irresponsible to be trusted with such power. You are just like a child. Give that to us before you hurt yourself!' That's what I hear, at least.

flicking through channels due to Gretchen Carlson being so over the top and acting like a dizt.
I saw MSNBC and CNN pushing this gun control and going after Dems which are pro gun.
They are doing this so tey can say this is a partisan issue and republicans care nothing about dead kids when it fails.

It’s about time the left looked at their own social policies as they started this crap 40 years ago and society has gone down as respect over those years, coincidence, I think not.

boys need a father and a mother, they need discipline and guidence not to be ignored because the mother is tired from work and her career and the father is fed up of a boring life.

Yes media you are part of the problem not the solution

Does this tard know that the Second Amendment does not have anything to do with hunting?

No, its the 100 round drum mags that are prone to jam just like it did in the Colorado theater shooting.

Mine don’t. I had one where I bent the feed lips on it that I tossed, but magazines are a “consumable” part anyway. You are supposed to replace them when they start to wear out.

“I don’t know anybody that needs 30 rounds in the clip to go hunting. I mean, these are things that need to be talked about.”

The old Remington 22. semi auto I used to hunt squirrels with held 18 shorts or 16 longs I think it was.

What a weasel.

Ah, yes, The "hunting" and "need" argument brought in to screw the 2nd Amendment again.

Damn these people!

I don’t carry a 30 round magazine to build a snowman, either.

And that’s just as relevant to this discussion as “hunting”.

this excuse of mental health now.

Since when do boys grow up with no guidence by the age of 5 and act up, then turn 11 and act up at school, they get shrinks and drugs and do what they want due to no father nad mother having a career by the age of 18 they go intot he real world with no concept of the world and sit around playing games, \\By 16 mother thinks she is losing her son but now it;s too late?

We have a kid next door, supposed to be homeschooled but no one is ever there watching him.
He;s now 16 and everyone stays away from him.
The last thing I would do is take him to the range because he wants to.

This mother thought at his later age he was out there, but takes him to a range.
She;s not there to be a friend, she is there from birth to be a mother.

This mental health is crap and a cop out.

Many kids at my 15 year olds schoool are freaks because parents are never around but now we’re supposed to say mental health due to lack of parents giving up their lives and raising their kids

Yeah, that's why you load 28 rounds into it.

I used to shoot a SA 80,A2 and there was never a problem with the mags, though it was a military auto when I served

And why does anyone “need” a 30 round magazine?

Simple.

If it ever comes to having to use a gun to defend your life, and your adversary has a gun, then if you run out of ammo before your adversary is out or dead, then you will die.

We shouldn’t have to defend the defensive purpose of these things. Period.

Well Joe evidently you don’t know as much about hunting as would have folks believe. If you did then you would know that there are numerous variations of the AR 10 /15 platform that are designed specifically for hunting. And you would also know that Winchester has recently offered a .223 round specifically designed for boar and deer hunting.

But then you wouldn’t be able to posture for the camera then would you.
