Cheaper Than Dirt Suspends Online Gun Sales
Vanity & Facebook

Posted on 12/18/2012 9:54:09 AM PST by mnehring

Texas online gun superstore Cheaper Than Dirt posted on Facebook today:

Cheaper Than Dirt! is suspending online sales of firearms effective immediately. We are reviewing our policy internally, and will continue to be the leader in the outdoor industry with our full line of gear and accessories.

They have also removed all firearms from their website.

Another business capitulates. We don't need gun grabbers when our own side will bend over and do whatever they want. I have spent thousands at CTD but will hold off on any further spending until they do the right thing. Tell them what you think on their Facebook page

Was CTD selling guns to people without transferring them through licensed gun dealers who perform the FBI background check?

They're acting guilty, so they must have done something illegal.

Their website is SLOW! I have to imagine they’re getting bombarded there too.

Some of the best deals on ammo and parts are on their site. I’ve never purchased firearms from them, but if they cave on arms, they’ll cave when the libs come blasting them over magazines, etc.

No. Buying a weapon through CTD was the same as buying a weapon from a gun shop. You had to have the weapon shipped to an FFL vendor who supplied his license before it shipped. It was then up to the FFL transferor to make sure the purchase proceeded just like in a gun shop.

Just sent them an email bidding adios if they choose to NOT support the 2nd amendment. Sometimes you have to be ready for the backlash. Not sure how much of their business was dependent on firearms sales in any case. Don’t think they’ve been doing firearms for that long.

Share the lead.

Hmm, I ordered ammo from them on Sunday and got an email this morning it has been shipped.

I’ve been in their Fort Worth store and it is enormous. Hard to believe they bowed down to Hussein and quit selling guns on line. If you bought one on line, you had to pick it up at a gun store that would check you out on their FBI connection, complete that paperwork.

Maybe people think you buy it on line and they send it through the mail directly to you. That doesn’t happen.

The seller has to ship to a local (to the buyer) FFL (Federal FIrearms License) holder. The buyer goes to the FFL and fills out a 4473 form and goes through the NICS check. Once passed, the buyer pays the FFL a sum for the service and is on their way unless there are additional local or state regulations. The firearm is never sent directly to the buyer.

How would the dealer verify who the purchaser is with an on-line purchase?

They do it this way. From their website:

- - - - - - - - - - -

"Buying a Firearm Online is Easy!

Add your selected firearm(s) to your shopping cart and check out.

Select a local Federal Firearms Licensed (FFL) Dealer that will accept the firearm and complete the transfer. Find a FFL Dealer HERE.

If you choose an FFL Dealer that is not on our preferred list, you or your FFL Dealer will be required to fax or email us a signed copy of the Federal Firearms License referencing your Cheaper Than Dirt! order number. Pick up your firearm from the FFL Dealer, who will need to do a background check. Transfer fees may apply. Buying Firearms on the Internet Federal law requires firearms to be shipped to FFL Dealers. For an individual to receive a firearm from Cheaper Than Dirt! it must be shipped to an FFL Dealer in your state.

Locating a Federal-Firearm License Dealer (FFL) in Your Area There are thousands of FFL Dealers in the United States. You may choose an FFL Dealer from our preferred listing or you may find a dealer in your area. To find a list of FFL Dealers in your area area CLICK HERE. If you choose a dealer that is not on our preferred list, either you or the FFL Dealer will be required to submit a copy of the Federal Firearms License referencing your Cheaper Than Dirt! order number. The FFL Dealer will usually charge a fee to conduct the transfer. There are duties that the FFL Dealer is required to do during the process which include a background check. Remember, the FFL Dealer is doing you a favor and the process takes time to complete. Fees can vary so check with the FFL Dealer ahead of time to request a quote on the fees associated with your firearm transfer. The FFL Dealer is in business to make a profit and your internet purchase may be viewed as competition to their retail business. If you feel the fees are too high, you can search for another FFL Dealer.

Completing the Transaction

Once you place the firearm in your cart and checkout you will receive a confirmation email that has your order number and further instructions. We will verify the FFL license and also make the FFL Dealer aware that an order from Cheaper Than Dirt! will soon be arriving for you. Most orders are processed within 2-3 business days from the time we receive and verify the FFL Dealers information. Once shipped, your firearm will arrive at the FFL Dealer within 3-7 days business days. The FFL Dealer will begin processing the shipment. It may be an additional day or so before the FFL Dealer is ready to conduct the transfer of the firearm to you. Call the FFL Dealer and set an appointment to confirm that the firearm is ready to be transferred. "

Black power pistols are not "firearms".

They're "antique firearms" (even if they were manufactured this morning), an entirely different sort of creature. Under federal law, anyway. As such, they are not subject to any of the federal legal restrictions (FFL, NICS check, age limits on purchase, etc) which apply to "firearms".

Heck, they quit shipping certain guns to California a long time ago, even guns that were and are still legal in California (I know; I tried to buy some). But this does it for me. I, too, have spent thousands on toys and ammo at CTD. But no more. I'm done with them (wonder if I should ask them to delete my account, just to drive home the point?).

F'n wimps, you'd think Soros bought them out or something.

I just noticed that Academy has removed all AR type rifles from their website as well (with the exception of .22 versions).

http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearch?Rc=100&catalogId=10051&rel=nofollow&langId=-1&storeId=10151&N=39632024&Nao=100

All of their Red Jacket line has been removed too, clothing, rifles, and handguns.

Regarding previous, emailed a friend at Academy HQ. He said they are getting behind the scenes political pressure to ‘shut down sales or you will be shut down’. All major retailers are getting this call.

Someone needs to blow the whistle at what is going on.

All of these companies will be hammered with customer boycotts which will weaken or shut them down while the left applauds. They are committing suicide before they can be murdered. We are going to have to coalesce around those sources who will stand up to the emotional hysteria and the coming Federal onslaught.

I’ve never bought a gun from them, but a lot of other items. I don’t understand what the issue is - they can’t ship direct in any case - the transaction has to go through a FFL dealer, along with the usual ID and background check at point of sale.

Companies that bend to idiot pressure should be termed: “Boehnervendors”.

And should be treated with as much reverence as we treat the RINOdork.
