Cheaper Than Dirt Suspends Online Gun Sales
Vanity & Facebook

Posted on 12/18/2012 9:54:09 AM PST by mnehring

Texas online gun superstore Cheaper Than Dirt posted on Facebook today:

Cheaper Than Dirt! is suspending online sales of firearms effective immediately. We are reviewing our policy internally, and will continue to be the leader in the outdoor industry with our full line of gear and accessories.

They have also removed all firearms from their website.

Another business capitulates. We don't need gun grabbers when our own side will bend over and do whatever they want. I have spent thousands at CTD but will hold off on any further spending until they do the right thing. Tell them what you think on their Facebook page

I think “it” started a while ago, most people just didn’t know it.

my husband just ordered a pistol from them on Saturday, because i said to him, in light of Friday’s tragedy that he better act on it if he wants it bc they would start banning ASAP. he said he had gotten a confirming email later that day, so he’s going to call them about this story. bet their phones are ringing off the hook and that he he will have trouble getting through.

I just noticed that Academy has removed all AR type rifles from their website as well (with the exception of .22 versions).

http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearch?Rc=100&catalogId=10051&rel=nofollow&langId=-1&storeId=10151&N=39632024&Nao=100

All of their Red Jacket line has been removed too, clothing, rifles, and handguns.

I tried to delete my account but didn’t see how to do that. If you figure that out, please pass it along.

“Cheaper Than Dirt Suspends Online Gun Sales”

I wanna be part of the story toooooooo!

How about these stupid pr*cks just shut up and wait for this temper tantrum to blow over instead of reacting like a bunch of sissies?

Regarding previous, emailed a friend at Academy HQ. He said they are getting behind the scenes political pressure to ‘shut down sales or you will be shut down’. All major retailers are getting this call.

Someone needs to blow the whistle at what is going on.

I figured that was happening.

I'd go online with that news instead of shutting down.

Totalitarian crap like that needs to be reported.

All of these companies will be hammered with customer boycotts which will weaken or shut them down while the left applauds. They are committing suicide before they can be murdered. We are going to have to coalesce around those sources who will stand up to the emotional hysteria and the coming Federal onslaught.

I’ve never bought a gun from them, but a lot of other items. I don’t understand what the issue is - they can’t ship direct in any case - the transaction has to go through a FFL dealer, along with the usual ID and background check at point of sale.

Kinda sews things up for them as far as any purchasing by me.

Companies that bend to idiot pressure should be termed: “Boehnervendors”.

And should be treated with as much reverence as we treat the RINOdork.

Whether sarcastic or not, it is important I think to at least say what they really do on sales of weapons.

Actually, I’ve seen some deals at CTD I’d like to have taken advantage of, but by the time you involve an FFL and their charges, the shipping costs, etc., the deal is the same as a low-price store in the area.

Caving to political pressure. See #46.

I have a feeling a backdoor ban is going on. Political powers are calling these retailers telling them to ‘voluntarily’ shut down sales or they will be shut down completely through laws and regulations.

Who is making the calls? Someone needs to leak the identities.

That’s what I wondered. Every sale by them HAS to through FFL’s. So what’s their problem?

So what’s their problem?

I doubt they are suspending sales of guns, now that I think about it.

I think this story is simply incorrect. Not that the press ever gets anything wrong.

If they stop selling guns, they might as well close up shop.

The commentary for CTD is overwhelmingly against their decision.

The comments for Dick’s is overwhelmingly in support of theirs.

Shows you clearly who shops where...

We’re becoming a nation of wusses. We must stop being bullied. I know I was bullied a lot as a kid and Mom told me the only way is to stand up for myself. She said, “you will get hurt, sometimes rediculed but you must be strong. Sometimes things are not fair, I got paddled in grade school for standing up for myself, but still, I did. We are in the fight for our lives and way of life here and these people cave? I feel sorry for the French, I think we are a bit unfair to them, they got beat due to bad decision processes in WWII, the French Resistance did fight on, with our help of course. Still, what we attribute to the French, can be said of many in our country. Bronco Bama is not a ghod. We must quit fearing him like he is one and telling him and the Alinskyites to go fly a kite. Sure there are times we can be scared, sometimes I feel it too, but we must know our cause is the right on e and do the right thing and stand up. I wonder why gramps went to Normandy at times.

Those punks. I just ordered a bunch of mags from them the other day. That’s the last purchase I make from them.

The dealer does not verify anything about the purchaser. The gun MUST ship from the online store to a registered FFL where the purchaser must show up in person to complete the paperwork for transferring the firearm, show identification, and submit to a background check. The FFL will call in the identification info and will find out immediately on the phone if the sale is allowed. If a long gun is purchased (rifle, shotgun) the purchaser can leave the FFL immediately with the gun. If a pistol is purchased, the pistol must be picked up after a waiting period which depends on the state - it is two days in my state. Guns are never transferred directly from an online store to the purchaser.

I don’t think you can delete an account.

What you can do is go to “my account”

Then change your name, email addr. and password to random chars.

And then forget them.
