Nancy Lanza should have had her son committed to a psychiatric institution.

If she had made that unpleasant but necessary choice, things would have ended differently for her and for 26 other innocent people.

Thanks to our lovely courts, you can't do that against his will unless he has committed a crime.

Unfortunately, I have been there, and done that. My son is currently committed under court order, for an illness that sounds a lot like this guy had.

When this happened, all I could think of was, this could easily have been my son.

Over the past few days, I have felt a lot better about this choice. when he called me last night, like he does every Monday night, he all but thanked me for putting him in the “School”. He is a few weeks shy of 18, and is in a secure residential setting, with others like him.

I'm not in favor of gun control, but that doesn't mean I approve of how everyone chooses to exercise his right to bear arms. I think Nancy Lanza was a damn fool to have guns in her house when she was living with an obviously “off” teen/20year old.

Not as easy as it sounds. Nowhere near.

no mother would want to destroy her son’s life FOREVER on the theory of something bad to others. You are asking the woman to predict and she paid the ultimate price for her mistake.

Think about it, he was in the basement playing video games not out in the real world.

Just heard yesterday that she had begun the process, which may have triggered his rage.

I also heard that there is a six month waiting period for institutionalization, since there are so many claims for "crazy checks" (SSI disability).
