What do you do when you are an assistant professor at a public university and you’ve been caught red-handed retweeting a tweet advocating murder?

If you’re University of Rhode Island professor Erik Loomis, you delete your entire Twitter account

...

We’re glad he won’t be advocating violence on Twitter any longer. Hopefully, he will use the freed-up time to seek help from a mental health professional.

* * *

Update: What exactly is Loomis hiding? Before he deleted his Twitter account, we managed to make note of a few of his angrier tweets

(Excerpt) Read more at twitchy.com ...

“Time to start shooting NRA members” is a terroristic threat, Mr Loomis. Yes, “MISTER”.

I nominate Professor Loomis for Dumb-Azz of the year. I know there is lots of competition here (should start a whole other thread on this). A visible community Professor who tweets the hate he did? He certainly is in contention. I submit his name to the FR committee for consideration.

after all, the staff signed a ‘diversity pledge’.

It’s funny (strange) how “I want his head on a stick” is a “metaphor - why can’t conservatives understand metaphors?”, but a cross-hair on a political opponent’s name is a “call to incite violence”.

Since he’s a lefty and is against gun ownership because guns murder people, chances are he is nihilistic, blood thirsty and has possession of guns. He may have been inspiring with Crazy Adam in Conn. or the next one to come.

Through senior faculty colleagues at URI I am told that some very-high-level meetings are going on now about what to do with this guy. The president’s office phone has been ringing off the hook all day.

BTW, contrary to some comments I have seen, his rank is Assistant Professor and as such he does not have tenure. (This was also confirmed to me.)

This would make it easier to fire him, so we’ll see. Public pressure helps.

Remember that to gain tenure, he will most likely (different universities have different rules on this) have to get a majority of votes of his fellow faculty in the History Department. Given that his department is probably 95% far left, he probably is just trying to mollify his ranking faculty.

I think the last time “head on a stick” actually meant murder was sometime around 1450.

This moron is a history professor? Hey, white boy, we'll drop you in the the middle of Mogadishu in 2012 and see whose head ends up on a stick.

In perusing his profile, I read that Miss Erik Loomis writes he loves ANY book written by Alice Munro.

Who is she? Let's ask wikipedia:

"A frequent theme of her work—particularly evident in her early stories—has been the dilemmas of a girl coming of age and coming to terms with her family and the small town she grew up in. In recent work such as Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage (2001) and Runaway (2004) she has shifted her focus to the travails of middle age, of women alone and of the elderly. It is a mark of her style for characters to experience a revelation that sheds light on, and gives meaning to, an event.

A *GUY* LOVES THESE BOOKS...? HOW GAY IS THAT...?

However, it does leave me curious - when he discussed dildos in class, did he bring one of his own?

My tax dollars are supporting this person and providing him with a soft job, a comfortable salary and better benefits than 90% of Americans. The American people need to wake up and realize we can not afford to keep supporting these people who contribute nothing useful to society but threaten honest hardworking Americans.

I’m curious as to whether sites such as Twitter or Facebook are liable in some way for posts that call for violence against others.

I’m also curious whether this a$$hat will have a job by the end of the week.

Further, I’m trying to recall the last time a member of the TEA Party endorsed wholesale violence against people with whom they disagree.

Re: Erick Loomis

Dear Sir or Madam,

Much has been said about the state of mind of the shooter at the elementary School in Connecticut and what may have provoked him to do such a horrible thing. Many have said he should have been diagnosed as mentally unstable and should not have been allowed in an open society.

I am writing you to say that you have this same type person, Eric Loomis, on your campus and in fact he may be as unstable as the shooter in Connecticut!!

My Loomis recently tweeted @rudepunditt “First fucker to say the solution is for elementary school teachers to carry guns needs to be beaten to death”. This is exactly the type of language that could cause some unstable person to go out and kill. I believe and hope you would agree that we can have a civil debate on this without the need for inciting violence?

As a member of the NRA and an advocate of teachers being armed, I now fear that my travels which take me on occasion to your fair state may put me at the risk of being harmed because of this type of tweet by Mr. Loomis.

It is my belief that you should immediately have a psychiatric evaluation of Mr. Loomis and provide the public with proof that Mr. Loomis is a stable person capable of teaching in an institution such as yours. Failure to do so and blood could possibly be on your hands because of his tweets.

Respectfully,

H.L. Johnson

CC: The Honorable Lincoln D. Chafee
Governor State of Rhode Island

Editor, Narr

I believe he planned this with Llanza as a way to promote gun control. The nazis in germany were familiar with the process as a way of discrediting your opposition. This history Asst prof would also be aware of the process. This give his pre event knowledge, motive and since he is in the same region, opportunity. Remember, it is not whether there is any evidence of the crime but the seriousness of the accusation. Actually the complete lack of evidence is tantamount to proof that there is an active conspiracy in play.

“He is a dildo.”

No, he’s a can’t-do. He must be a fag by default!

His picture reminds of the Phoenix nut who murdered six and injured Congresswoman G. Gifford.

Remove his hair and glasses and look at the crazy smile; a twin of that murderer who was also a far-left loon.
