From what I've been told, Adam was aware of her petitioning the court for conservatorship and (her) plans to have him committed," Flashman told FoxNews.com. "Adam was apparently very upset about this. He thought she just wanted to send him away. From what I understand, he was really, really angry. I think this could have been it, what set him off.
A senior law enforcement official involved in the investigation confirmed that Lanza's anger at his mother over plans for his future mental health treatment is being looked at as a possible motive for the deadly shooting.
Flashman was told Nancy Lanza had begun filing paperwork to get conservatorship over her troubled son, but that could not be confirmed because a court official told FoxNews.com such records are sealed. The move would have been necessary for her to gain the legal right to commit an adult to a hospital or psychiatric facility against his will. A competency hearing had not yet been held.
Adam Lanza attended the Sandy Hook School as a boy, according to Flashman, who said Nancy Lanza had volunteered there for several years. Two law enforcement sources said they believed Nancy Lanza had been volunteering with kindergartners at the school. Most of Lanza's victims were first graders sources believe Nancy Lanza may have worked with last year.
Flashman said Nancy Lanza was also good friends with the schools principal and psychologistboth of whom were killed in the shooting rampage.

And here I thought Flashman kicked the bucket about 100 years ago.
The old boy is amazing!
I’ve known of firearms enthusiasts who have committed suicide rather than be served a mental health committment and therefore banned from possession.
Let us see if Fox is the sole outlet for this possible motive...
Very plausible scenario
We need to send congratulations, along with Christmas cards to the ACLU in honor of their murderous stupidity over denying this mother a way of easily committing her son.
If you have someone in your house on anti psychotic meds, and you think they really need to be committed.
LOCK UP YOUR GUNS.
A good gun safe is not that expensive.
More at the link- this begins to put the pieces together.
Who is Flashman?
See, what we need to do is not commit people and they won’t have this fear and won’t go nuts.
Of course they are already nuts
Its possible the mother had the weapons locked up..since he was trying to purchase another gun but was refused since there was a 48 hour background check wait and he didnt want to wait. Its possible that the day of the shooting he somehow was able to break the lock or figure out the pass code to get them..otherwise why did he try to purchase another gun
bkmk
So was he on Meds?? Seeing a pysciatrist?
He did this in lieu of committal?
Sounds like preventable considering he was at the school the day before. LE should have definitely been notified. Maybe the court was asking the school for records.
Of course he did the crime....but we have to look at our system and LISTEN to parents as real people....
I read she was trying to get him into college to study engineering and was willing to move with him. So many different stories. I doubt we’ll never know the truth.
Good question. I haven’t a clue.
More here:
Adam Lanza, the shooter who massacred 20 children and six adults last Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School, spent hours in the windowless basement of his home playing violent video games like “Call of Duty” and obsessing over “guns and military equipment.”
Peter Wlasuk, a plumber who worked at the Lanza home, told The Sun that Lanza “lived in the basement” and he found it “strange.”
“He had a proper set up down there computers, a bathroom, bed and desk and a TV,” Wlasuk said. “There were no windows.
Wlasuk said he went down to the basement on numerous occasions while doing work at Lanza’s home and said Lanza also had a “huge poster with every tank ever made” and another one with “every piece of military equipment the U.S. ever made.” He said the Lanza brothers could tell “you about guns they had never seen from the 40s, 50s and 60s.”
Lanza was suspected of being mentally ill and may have had Asperger’s. His high school assigned him to a counselor because they feared he may harm himself but not others.
According to reports, Lanza’s mother was a “a gun enthusiast who owned at least five weapons” and “took her younger son to a local firing range just days before the rampage.”
A family friend told NBC that Lanza’s mother said she wanted to introduce Adam to guns to teach him a “sense of responsibility.”
Guns require a lot of respect and she really tried to instill that,” the friend said. “And he took to it. He loved being careful with them. He made it a source of pride.
It makes sense if he was jealous of his mother’s working with the kindergarteners.
That bass turd psycho didn’t just snap, he planned to kill! Where the hell was his “father”?
It’s possible the school principle and councilor
were influencing his mother to try and get him help
and this is why he killed them.
We won’t know for a long time.
That will not stop the forces of liberalism from
using this as an excuse to disarm the rest of us.
Sounds like a great excuse to stop talking about mental illness and get back to the banning of guns.
These days the government forces kids to be adults at 18. A few decades ago, a disturbed or emotionally unstable kid could have his parents do things like pay for stuff and handle medical issues.
Now, though, medical issues cannot be discussed with parents once the kid turns 18 (like a psychologist or psychiatrist can no longer chat with parents). Financial issues likewise, the kid must handle that too. Bank accounts become viewable only by the kid.
Conservatorship is about the only way a parent of an AS or Autistic or Down kid can stay in the loop and handle things the kid has difficulty with.
In a sick and diseased brain involuntary commitment to a psych hospital (or any facility, for that matter) could be enough.
Liberals have been creaming their pants for years hoping for a tragedy like this to happen so they can use it for their own benefit. The far left despises our country and our Constitution..their top guy is in the White House who wants nothing more than to rip our Constitution to shreds
A character in 'Tom Brown's Schooldays', a nasty bull.
a conservatorship would also be needed for her to set up a special needs trust fund and have a guardian always manage Adam’s financial affairs
the ex husband should be aware if this
as a parent ages they have to think of future arrangements for an adult disabled child
of course, he might have misinterpreted her motives
if she thought he was dangerous she would have had her door locked and guns beside her bed with her... perhaps she did
That’s convincing. I now believe it was the crazy man’s motive.
“purchase another gun but was refused since there was a 48 hour background check “
He maybe could buy a long gun but a 20 yo can’t buy a handgun.
It would explain why he murdered his mother.
How would that explain why he murdered innocent children?
I would suspect that his father wanted him committed over a decade ago...and the mother just wouldn’t agree to that. Just my humble opinion....but you can’t live in a house like that for years and years.
BINGO
I love Flashman!
So, if freaky Adam was so upset, why didn’t he just off himself?
He went to the school the day before and there was an “altercation”, there had to be a reason for that, so this makes sense if true.
You are not alone in that thought process and thank you for bringing it up. Yes, Did she have a Safe, and if they were locked up, how did he crack it and or force her to open it. If you get the impression she was willing to get him "help" chances are she would have had them locked up if she was that logical.
Which leads to other questions, i.e. the story has political legs of it's own and if such facts come to light, the lame streams won't denote it as it does not fit their narrative.
My heart is still aches for these innocents, their parents, and all who loved them, and I am repulsed by the magnitude of evil of he who doesn't deserved to be named.
Flashman is also a series of books by George MacDonald about the later adventures of the Tom Brown Schooldays character. Flashman ends up fighting with Custer at the Little Bighorn! Wonderful stuff.
Seems that Fox is the only outlet that knows this "Flashman" person. I have no idea who this person is! He pops up as a source in a Fox News article with no explanation of who he is.
So let me get this straight...
Momma is the one who taught him how to shoot (she was a big firearms enthusiast). And even after she saw that he was unstable, continued to take him shooting.
Momma initiates legal action to have him committed for being unstable and likely a danger... yet does absolutely nothing to secure here weapons where he cannot access them...
And she (along with 20 children and 6 school faculty) paid with their lives.
But it is still the GUN’s fault...
No - this is a case of irresponsibility. He tried to buy a gun but failed (Dick’s actually followed the law - though now they are halting sales of similar firearms, folding to the Marxists), but his mom was an accomplice to his acts.
It wasn’t Aspergers or “Autism Spectrum Disorder” that killed 27 people plus the perp. It was Adam Lanza who made the decision, and his mother who aided and abetted by failing to secure her weapons from her dangerous son.
A government that does not trust the people to be armed
is in fact a tyranny.
Its that simple, if they (our supposed government)attempt
to disarm us inspite of the constitution and bill of
rights, then they have given up the mandate of the people
and deserve what will happen to them. We can have no
common ground with tyranny.
If it’s true that the mother was preparing to have him committed, how did he find out about it? More importantly, if she knew her son was a danger to himself and others to the degree that he needed to be involuntarily committed, how on earth did he have access to all her weapons and her car?
because her working with “normal” kids brought her a sense of happiness and fulfillment, of being needed and loved, an escape from the reality of Adam, and social opportunities with empathetic adults like the principal, psychologist and teachers
Adam wanted his mother all for himself even if he could not love her and maybe even wanted to escape and become an adult. Or maybe she wanted his independence more than he did
And he hated not ever being one of those kids who brought her happiness and joy. My bet is she shared stories about her “kids” and volunteer activities with this sullen brooding psycho and that helped him hatch his plan
I worked for years in the ER of a major hospital located in a major city. Our hospital, unlike some, didn't have a psych ward because 1) there was a huge state psychiatric hospital within a couple of hundred yards of our front door and 2) because there was another major hospital located right down the street that *had* one.Anyway,I can tell you hundreds of stories about involuntary commitments to the nearby state hospital. Some went quietly....many most assuredly did *not*.
I posted a few days ago that I was speculating this may be what set him off.
Could be Adam figured Mom was getting help from the Sandy Hook school psychologist.
BFL
That pretty much sums it up given what we know at this time.
During the last decade, where was the "father"?
The next day I met him at the local gunshop and we were waiting at the door when they opened up. I then helped transport a gun safe over to their house and my friend's sister brought all of the guns over so that we could secure them for her.
This is a parenting and mental health issue, not a firearms issue.
There are lots of ways a kid can learn things that he's not supposed to know. When I was a kid I knew a *lot* more about household events than I was supposed to know and that my parents *thought* I knew.
More importantly, if she knew her son was a danger to himself and others to the degree that he needed to be involuntarily committed, how on earth did he have access to all her weapons and her car?
A valid question...perhaps even she underestimated how serious his disorder was.
Assuming the combination is 3 digits, who is to say that over time he didn't see one or more of the digits his mom dialed and figure out the rest? Because people commonly use digits that are easily remembered, might she have made the mistake of setting her birthdate, or something else that a person having close knowledge would be able to figure out?
