EXCLUSIVE: Fear of being committed may have caused Connecticut gunman to snap

NEWTOWN, Conn. – The gunman who slaughtered 20 children and six adults at a Connecticut elementary school may have snapped because his mother was planning to commit him to a psychiatric facility, according to a lifelong resident of the area who was familiar with the killer’s family and several of the victims’ families.

Adam Lanza, 20, targeted Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown after killing his mother early Friday because he believed she loved the school “more than she loved him,” said Joshua Flashman, 25, who grew up not far from where the shooting took place. Flashman, a U.S. Marine, is the son of a pastor at an area church where many of the victims' families worship.

“From what I've been told, Adam was aware of her petitioning the court for conservatorship and (her) plans to have him committed," Flashman told FoxNews.com. "Adam was apparently very upset about this. He thought she just wanted to send him away. From what I understand, he was really, really angry. I think this could have been it, what set him off.”

A senior law enforcement official involved in the investigation confirmed that Lanza's anger at his mother over plans for “his future mental health treatment” is being looked at as a possible motive for the deadly shooting.

Flashman was told Nancy Lanza had begun filing paperwork to get conservatorship over her troubled son, but that could not be confirmed because a court official told FoxNews.com such records are sealed. The move would have been necessary for her to gain the legal right to commit an adult to a hospital or psychiatric facility against his will. A competency hearing had not yet been held.

Sounds like one of those things where the guy doesn’t want to go to jail so he either takes his life or tries killing as many people as he can before he is stopped.

Flashman said nobody will completely understand why Adam did what he did. “No one can explain Adam Lanza besides God and Adam Lanza, and I don’t even think Adam Lanza could explain Adam Lanza, to be honest with you.”

In 1984, I was asked to analyze a "Character" curriculum. I got a team together and we went over it with a fine tooth comb. Our findings were rather interesting. The program was specially designed to disengage the student from any of the moorings that help a child to grow into an adult, most notably the parents, but also any faith in God. At one point, one member of my team said that he actually felt as though he was staring into the pit of hell as he read through the fifth grade lesson where the teacher was instructed to help the children come to terms with the Andes plane crash and the resulting cannibalism, with questions that kneaded emotions out of the children. Questions like: how would you feel if you and your friends were in a plane crash like that? Would you be able to eat your friends?

I took that program to an old parish priest, the kind of man whose common sense made him someone I just had to talk to. I showed him the very worst pages of the program. He read through it and put his hand on his forehead, sighed deeply and said: "You know you could have five kids go through this and four of them might end up with a few quirks, but that fifth one?" He then just shook his head.

My point is this - there have been programs just like the one I studied in place all over this country since the 80s. It was only a matter of time when those "fifth children" begin to commit acts of mass murder. Add anti-depressants and you have a recipe for disaster.

What I noticed in 1984 was that these programs were carefully constructed so that no one, not the teacher, the student, nor the parent would have any idea that anything was happening to the student.

We were successful at getting the program we studied thrown out. However, we had no way of convincing others as to the danger these kind of "character" programs posed.

This type of education is the root of the problem. And it infests every public school system. And, is endorsed by the CDC and the NEA.

But, it is so well hidden no one would know where to begin to look for it.

The reason for it all? They have a vested interest in turning your children into compliant little Marxists. So what if a few kids go off the deep end and shoot to kill other students?

The truth of this whole tragic affair has not a single chance of seeing the light of day. All that confidential information leaves a void that will replaced by misimformation that will support the government agenda.. Pure and simple.

So when my son was in grade school, I think it was the 3rd grade, there was new program involving “character and choices”. Parents were told they could opt their kids out of it and that they could view some sample questions available in the principal’s office. So I go in there and read the sample questions. One question went something like this “Would you ever steal money? A) yes B) only if I needed it C) no, I don’t want to get in trouble.”
I remember thinking how about no, because it’s wrong is not an option? I asked to see the other questions and was told they were confidential. I opted him out and after a few weeks of me and my big mouth making sure everyone had known why Logan was opted out and why, every Methodist and Baptist in our county had opted their kids out.
The program ended up being terminated when there were only 10 kids that hadn’t been opted out.

Why is it everytime some nut kills by gun they blame the gun, but when a nut kills by some other method they blame the nut?

“From what I've been told, Adam was aware of her petitioning the court for conservatorship and (her) plans to have him committed,"

My, what a hot little psychological pressure cooker that home must have been.

Just imagine: The person with the most power over you intends to crush your life plans by having you committed. You hate the idea of being confined and drugged, that's a living nightmare, but what YOU want counts for precisely nothing. You're just a boy. After you have been committed, you know that you will never really be accepted in society. You'll always be the freak, the outsider, for the rest of your life. That's what mommy wants.

She has all the power, and she intends to use it against you. Is there any way to stop her? Well, actually, you have access to her guns, and since your life is already forfeit... Pay her back, and make some innocents pay for your own lost innocence. Do something to make this miserable world share and understand your private hell.

". . . when a nut kills by some other method they blame the nut?"

My answer is they are in the process of unraveling the Constitution. They will try but human kind's thirst for freedom, as put forth by the Founders, is too strong and "The people shall not be deprived or abridged of their (rights)."

All speculation, but the bottom line is this:

Nobody, but nobody, harbors the kind of rage he did for that amount of time to systematically put between 3 and 11 rounds into so many innocent children, unless satan was at the controls.

This country doesn’t need another assult weapons ban; we need a spiritual revival.

Lanza didn’t snap. He meticulously planned and executed the killing of 26 innocent victims.

Where was the boy’s father? Or did he divorce his son? We all know he was out making his millions but seems to me he still had a responsibility to his child. Perhaps the mother didn’t want his involvement (?) but still seems like he could have had some kind of input.

You were pretty lucky to catch on about it. Because of experiences like yours they have learned that they have to sneak this kind of education into already established classes. Today these kind of programs can most readily be found inside health classes.

From the CDC website - these kind of classes:

Build personal competence, social competence, and self efficacy by addressing skills. An effective curriculum builds essential skills — including communication, refusal, assessing accuracy of information, decision-making, planning and goal-setting, self-control, and self-management — that enable students to build their personal confidence, deal with social pressures, and avoid or reduce risk behaviors. Sounds pretty good, doesn't it?

The following steps are fundamental in a program which is designed to change a child's behavior. It is a highly sophisticated form of brain-washing:

For each skill, students are guided through a series of developmental steps:

Discussing the importance of the skill, its relevance, and relationship to other learned skills.
Presenting steps for developing the skill.
Modeling the skill.
Practicing and rehearsing the skill using real–life scenarios.
Providing feedback and reinforcement.

It is through this technique by which a teacher can change a child's behavior, way of thinking, belief in God, reliance on parents - whatever they desire. In the 1980s it was called "values clarification."

Teachers, for the most part do not know the effect they are having. The parent will not know, unless they accidentally catch on. And sadly, the student will have no idea what is happening to him.

there is no way to prevent these lunatics....they will find a way....shooting, stabbing, burning the place down....they will find a way....

the fact that so very , very few people turn out this way is encouraging, what with 300,000,000 people.....

the only thing I'll say about guns is that responsible people should have the right to have them, but they must be out of reach for others....

Empathy is not pathological.

If my post made you walk a few feet in the shoes of a kid living in a pressure cooker home, good. There are too damn many of those kids, and too many adults who refuse to notice the realities of young lives.

If the mother knew he had serious mental issues...why did she not keep those guns locked up to keep him from getting to them?
