Given the self-serving way in which many reacted to the news of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., one really has to ask gun-control advocates: "Have you no decency?"
How about giving a horrified and heartbroken nation a chance to mourn and bury the dead? How about showing some respect for the victims you claim to care about? How about giving politics, pet causes and partisan jockeying a rest until we wipe our tears?
Tell that to Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., who said after the shootings: "If now is not the time to have a serious discussion about gun control and the epidemic of gun violence plaguing our society, I don't know when is."
Or CNN's Piers Morgan who, on his show, asked a defender of the Second Amendment: "How many more kids have to die, before you guys say, 'We want less guns, not more'?"
Or New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who recently demanded that Congress pass gun-control legislation and said this: "If this moment passes into memory without action from Washington, it will be a stain upon our nation's commitment to protecting the innocent, including our children."
Intending to capitalize on the tragedy, the antigun crowd insists that this is precisely the time to talk about toughening the nation's gun laws. After all, they say, you want to have such a dialogue when people are thinking about the issue.
Yet, that's the whole point. Many Americans are not thinking yet. We're still feeling. Just when you might have thought we were desensitized to violence, even when it amounts to mass murder, the horror at Sandy Hook reminded us that there are still things that we find too terrifying to imagine. At the moment, we're emotional, not rational.
Maybe that's how gun-control advocates want it...

This is exactly what my reaction has been in the past few days. Usually the first reactions to a tragedy like this is the welling up of emotionalism and not rationality which can make a situation worse.
The shooter is dead.
He wont murder again.
There is no law, regulation or rule that could possibly have prevented this massacre.
The boy was insane. It was not the fault of the gun or anybody else.
Society did not make him pull the trigger......
I don’t think the anti gun people give a rats butt about the 20 dead children in Connecticut, or any victims of any crime for that matter. I don’t think Obama does, either. Just my opinion.
The media is stroking this emotionalism. The president pro-tem of the Senate died the other day. He was very old, but a man worthy of much attention, and his death got little notice.
Its not just your opinion, I can personally vouch for that Reddon
>> I dont think the anti gun people give a rats butt about the 20 dead children in Connecticut
Hell, they seem pretty excited.
Never any mention of the govt turning its back to free-range sociopaths.
You’re right. We teach our kids to try to be rational, to not lash out, think things through, etc. Yet that is exactly the opposite of what the gun grabbers want. They want and need a quick, ill considered, emotional reaction. This is a high pressure sale - don’t wait, act now! Which is a big red flashing alarm that waiting and thinking is exactly what you should do. Always, always, always walk away from a sale when you are being pressured into it. Always. That practice has never steered me wrong in 40+ years. They know that if someone takes the time to research gun control they will very quickly learn that it does not work. So why do people advocate it? They are either ignorant of the facts, or they are using a tragedy to advance a political agenda. This, even knowing they are advocating a position that will cost lives. That is sick, seriously psychotic in my book.
Anti gun sentiment will not work in a recession where fear rules the day. When jobs are plenty, money was plenty, crime was rare, it is easy for people to wonder why one needs guns for? Today people fear for their jobs, see local gov cut back on police and etc. Financial crisis looms, yes even the fear of 2012 is in the back of many minds. Rank and file Dems as well as independents are not that quick to get rid of their guns including assault rifles. The elites may talk the talk but the middle class including the upper middle class is not too sure. If the Dems want gun control, wait till the typical American is employed, fat, dumb and happy. Economic fear may have Americans supporting big gov safety net, but the same fear also prevents the typical American to surrender his safety over to gov in a potential financial meltdown or crisis. Look at the gun shows and gun sales.
The left were giddy as school girls the moment this happened..probably doing cartwheels because this is the closest they have ever been in trying to destroy the 2nd amendment..this is what they have always wanted..they are pure evil scum..this is about total disarmament
Plain as day, this massacre was politicized by the leftards from the get go.
According to the radio log, it was seven minutes between the time the police arrived on the scene and when they found the first body.
What the hell were these unionized safety-first crime fighters doing for those seven minutes? One could easily cover that school campus in less than two.
The Left`s Liberal Ultimate Weapon Control:
After the fox raided the henhouse,
the farmer pulled out all his dog`s teeth because the fox is a dog with teeth and because his dog has teeth too.
“Only police dogs will be allowed to have teeth,”
he stated. “That way, raids on the chicken coop will stop and the chickens will be safe.”
Thanks for posting this.
The Democrats have devolved into savage animals.
Yep Daniel Inouye of Hawaii. Pretty much everything seems to have taken a backseat to the outcries for gun control. How many people protested at Obama’s inauguration? How many people even talked about the 26 states that don’t want to get involved in Obamacare? There is so little news about either of this.
Exactly. We are supposed to think like adults, act mature, analyze the context, think critically and use logic for an answer. The killer used a gun...wait he used a gun so let’s ban guns! Let’s not analyze anything else but he happened to use a weapon and it was a gun.
I believe that the advocacy is that they believe that every criminal is motivated by something other than vices. They think that if they gave the criminal a lot of money than the criminal would be an upstanding citizen. So therefore they take a positive view that such things like gun buybacks and gun control laws will reduce and even stop crime because criminals are not motivated enough to want to go through layers of draconian laws to kill somebody.
They maybe don’t think of guns as just another means to an end. They also believe that less guns mean less crimes and they live in urban environments where hunting, and pride in your property are not as important, no offense to city dwellers, as in a rural area or outside of the urban metropolis. All they hear about are gangs who kill with guns so they think that guns only do bad.
That’s why the Liberals do not want to wait. Gun Control based on emotionalism, get the guns out of the law abiding citizens. The government can than have unlimited control over the people. This is right out of the Marxist playbook.
Look at Chicago. Gun Control really works for the best in the windy city, right? No way it does not work. Drive by gun shootings on the rise in Chicago’s Southside.
Rahm Emanuel = Never Let a Good Crisis Go to Waste. This is the Mantra of the Liberal Agenda. Did the gun shoot the people?
What about Bath, Michigan 1927. Did the US outlaw dynamite? Did the US outlaw the usage of electrical wiring by a handyman?
In the USA, lets get real! No one knows for sure what was going on with Adam Lanza. Yet, everyone is searching for a reason to have someone or something else to blame it on.
The blame lies solely on the killer who meticulously planned and executed mass murder.
