CNN's Piers Morgan has been on a rabid anti-gun rant since July's Aurora, Colorado, shootings that has gotten even more venomous after Friday's massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.
On Tuesday, he rudely and disgracefully tore into guest Larry Pratt, the Executive Director of Gun Owners of America, calling him "an unbelievably stupid man" who's "dangerous," concluding the interview by saying, "You shame your country" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
PIERS MORGAN, HOST: The AR-15, as we've now seen from the last three mass shootings in America, Aurora, the shopping mall in Oregon, and now at Sandy Hook school, is the preferred choice of weapon for disturbed young men who want to commit mass atrocity, can fire hundreds of bullets at rapid speed, if you have the right magazines.
The president of the United States has indicated he wants to ban assault weapons like this. What is your view?
LARRY PRATT, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, GUN OWNERS OF AMERICA: I think we need to ban gun control laws that keep people from being able to protect themselves. The problem is not going to go away if we ban this or that gun. We've tried that. That doesn't work. Doesn't even work in England. You have mass murders there all over Europe. There have been mass murderers.
MORGAN: You're talking complete and utter -- you are talking complete and utter nonsense.
PRATT: The solution is for people to be able to defend themselves at the point of the crime and not wait for 20 minutes for the police come after everybody is dead.
MORGAN: What you've just said, Mr. Pratt, was an absolute lie. The gun murder rate in countries like Britain or Germany or Australia, we've all suffered massacres many years ago, similar nature, have -- there are 35 people killed a year. Your country has 12,000.
PRATT: Your murder rate has -- your murder rate is lower than ours, that is true. Your violent --
MORGAN: Lower? It's 75 against 12,000 in Australia.
PRATT: Your violent crime rate --
MORGAN: They had a massacre. And they got rid of the assault weapons.

I’d like to see a guest ask one of these smarmy media types: “If the government passed an outright ban, and the people refused to comply, would support sending military to round up these people and imprison them? This is a yes or no question.”. If the answer is yes, leave the interview with the statement: “There is no point in continuing this discussion, because you have entered into it with a mindset seen played over and over again by every totalitarian regime in history.”
See, most people don’t realize “semi-automatic” means “every time you pull the trigger a bullet is fired”. To them “semi-automatic” implies machine gun like capabilities.
I feel like a lot of people would back off if they realized such a ban would mean you would have to buy a gun which you manually reloaded after firing each time.
Just another example proving that the liberal mind is so warped that neither reason nor truth can reach it.
And that any attempt at civil discourse turns on their side to emotional and inflammatory name-calling and insults.
Note how this has progressed in the last 4 years.
Can we not see where this is headed? If this progresses, which I believe is inevitable, violence and/or war will come.
And it will originate from the left - not the right.

To make it fair, let the good Texas ass kickin’ be supplied by a red headed stay at home mom who’s good and PO’d about running late because of DFW traffic. Yeah, like my wife for instance...
As someone who has been robbed at gunpoint (in NY), I’d like to offer Piers some advice: You don’t expect bad things to happen, and if it does you may be facing the fight of your life. You can chose to be prepared to deal with such a problem, or chose a strategy of hoping you won’t be badly beaten or killed. I’d also suggest that he spend a few days in Detroit to think about it.
Oh yes piers How about the Hungerford massacre and lets add in the Cumbria shootings - both in England!
I know, I saw that! He was unspeakingly rude! I was so disgusted by the way he called the guy “stupid” and “an idiot” repeatedly; then turns around and thanks him for being on his show!
He'd like to have everyone forget that.
And what about WWI and WWII.
Piers was a judge on Americas got talent and was on Celebrity Apprentice so you know that qualifies him as a genius on political issues for CNN.

I thought that the other day,too. How many countries are we arming lately with “assault rifles” ? Libya,Syria,Egypt??
