Michael Moore Hours After Newtown Massacre: 'Guns Don't Kill People! Americans Kill People!'
Democracy Now! aired an excerpt of an address made by filmmaker Michael Moore delivered just hours after the Newtown massacre.
Moore criticized America for the violence, saying that "guns dont kill people, Americans kill people," and then pointed to U.S. wars, drone strikes and "other forms of violence."
Transcript below: MICHAEL MOORE: Earlier today, a crazy man went to an elementary school and attacked 22 children in China. A few hours before Connecticut, an elementary school was attacked in China by an insane man, and 22 children were his victims. But all he had was a knife. Total number of dead in the Chinese elementary school? Zero.
I hope you dont mind, but Id like to just say a few words about what happened today, because Ive been concerned about this issue for a long time. Yes, we need more gun control. Yes, we need free mental health services in this country. But I really believe that even if we had better gun control laws and better mental health, that we would still be the sort of sick and twisted, violent people that weve been for hundreds of years, that its something thats just in our craw, just in our DNA. And to get that out of our DNA is going to take a lot more than passing a bill in Albany or D.C. Thats not going to do it.

He should be worrying about harpoons not bullets.
Then the solution is obvious.
Ban Americans! :)
Kinda’ wish that FR would stop with putting all these hammerasses’ comments on . . . but, what else is news, huh?
Saw Soledad O’Brien getting her ass handed to her by John Lott. However, a libtard site said she kicked HIS ass.
I agree with him a bit if only to say that we don’t have a gun problem in this country, we have a SPIRITUAL problem. Moore and I probably wouldn’t agree on that second part. Fix that and everything else lines up.
Why continue to give this pig ink. He is twisted.
I despise MM, but this is, unfortunately, a very reasonable observation.
Guns are just immensely more suitable for a mass killing spree than other readily-available weapons.
Stuff a taco in it, Michael.
Actually, Americans on psychotropic drugs, like SSRIs kill people.
This site tell it all:
I say time for Michael to get out of this country and away from the people he so so despises. Maybe he should go to France, I ‘m sure his rants against rich people and violence will go over well there. Moore should make like the Titanic and sink out of sight.
Somebody tell Moore that since 1949 about 65 million (!!!) Chinese have been killed, not by guns persay, but by their government. That’s a heckuva lot more than over here. And guess what would have helped them? Guns!
I’m so glad Michael Moore checked in (we knew it was coming, didn’t we?) with another one of his patented “deepthink” rants.
“Guns don’t kill people, Americans kill people!”
Moore’s implicit message of course, is that there oughta be a law against AMERICANS, that it’s Americans that should be banned.
And don’tcha just love the line “when you make sure that 50 million people don’t have health insurance......”
There is enough fudge-brained stupidity in that single line to last me a lifetime.
Does anyone care what this fat rich boy has to say?
Guns are just immensely more suitable for a mass killing spree than other readily-available weapons.
Fertilizer and kerosene are readily available, and suitable for a mass killing spree.
Seems we need some grand compromise- allowing the good guys more latitude to be armed (such as teachers and pilots) and restricting much more the availability of high capacity arms.
Someone should super glue his mouth shut. Then, a nostril. Then, maybe, the other one.
Heard this on Democracy Now yesterday. Nothing surprises me anymore.
If I don't have a right to own high-capacity arms, I can't consent to have the government own high-capacity arms, either.
There will be no compromise, grand or otherwise, on that point.
Duh, it’s easier to kill someone with a gun than a knife. But you must ask where he’s going with th argument. He seems to think there’s something buried in our cultural DNA that makes us Americans extraspecially killhappy. Or maybe it’s just the ability to privately own a gun out of which all corruption follows. I don’t know what Moore’s argument is, or whether he’s actually thought one out. Seems to be U.S.=bad, and that’s it. You don’t get that from the knife=less deadly truism.
It may be a consequence of our freedom, at least our freedom to own guns. But then let’s compare the entire run of communist China to the US in a comparable period. See whether relative freedom or despotism is preferable. It’s not even close. In his “documentary” Bowling for Columbine Moore went back through all of our history and tried to set Columbine up as typical. Let us see what is typical of Chinese communism. Nonfatal stabbing fits, or mass starvation/rolling over citizens with tanks?
I don’t feel it’s reasonable to excuse our mass shootings by saying, hey, at least our government didn’t kill 65 million people in the last 60 or so years. Although there is some connection between a lack of mass murder and the right to bear arms. But Moore brought it up, with his literal blame America campaign.
Michael Moore - what an idiot!
Fat, dumb and psychotic is no way to go through life, son.
He is just so brave and edgy. Any day now he’ll point out that Muslims also kill people. Am I right? Any day now...
“If I don’t have a right to own high-capacity arms, I can’t consent to have the government own high-capacity arms, either.”
That is the crux of the arguement that many people just don’t get. A government, any government, with a monopoly on violence, in time, will employ it on any person, persons, organizations and/or groups of people deemed to be “enemies of the state”.
What’s coming down the road will be policies that are nothing more than arrogance, envy and elitist conceit cloaked in altruism.
Would it be so wrong of me to wish this porcine parade float would spontaneously combust?
Donuts don’t make people fat slobs!!! People who eat too many donuts make people fat slobs!!!
Maybe he should just move to that idylic non violent country called Cuba........(Cuber?)
They have a monopoly on the LEGAL USE of violence.
They cannot be allowed to have a blanket monopoly on the use of violence.
Hmmm... he wants to go down this road of pointing at WHICH humans are most responsible for “gun violence”?
Hmmm... what subset of Americans is disproportionately represented in violent crime statistics...
Interesting thing to look up, I’m sure.
And the rest of the world is lovey dovey.
Thanks for the brain-fart Michael. Carry on being the village idiot!
Would the fat boy prefer people died like this? 167 dead.
In 1950, Robert Dale Segee of Circleville, Ohio, claimed he was responsible for setting the circus fire. Segee, a roustabout for the show from June 30 to July 14, 1944, when he was about 14 years old, said he had a nightmare in which an Indian riding on a “flaming horse” told him to set fires. He further claimed that after this nightmare his mind went blank, and that he did not come out of this state until the circus fire had already been set.
It was said Segee fit the description of a serial arsonist right out of a psychiatrist’s textbook.
“They have a monopoly on the LEGAL USE of violence.
They cannot be allowed to have a blanket monopoly on the use of violence.”
Presently they do not have a monopoly on the legal use of violence. They share it with us. They may try and define the terms, but it is shared never the less. This is what this whole thing is about. They want to create the monopoly.
And if that comes to pass, God help us.
They’re also immensely more suitable for stopping a mass killing spree.
Its often been observed that perception is more important than reality. The observation is often correct. It is never MORE CORRECT than for those weve come to call liberals. I prefer statist but liberal has morphed from its classic meaning to the other end of the spectrum so Ill stay with it.
Since these folks operate almost entirely on EMOTION and FEELING, REALITY seldom allows FACTS to intrude upon the delusional worldview they have constructed and the comfort that provides them. It is that illogical, irrational and delusional mindset that prompts many of them to continue to quest after a Utopian society. The thought that such a society can and will never be achieved in a fallen world populated with failed sinners never penetrates whatever remains of their cognitive consciousness. Its a DANGEROUS WORLD and, as the liberals continue to define deviancy down, it becomes more dangerous daily.
There is another, far more sinister, level of the liberal call for gun control.
It was Mencken who offered that The urge to save humanity is most often a false front for the URGE TO RULE. He clearly had been a student of the liberal politicians of his day. Were he alive today and able to observe the likes of Chuck Schumer, Diane Feinstein, Obama and the rest, hed almost certainly have used far stronger language to frame his sage observation.
To conclude, dozens of studies reveal the FACTS concerning gun control. Those FACTS are that where firearms are widely and READILY available to law-abiding citizens, CRIME GOES DOWN! The liberals who willfully ignore the FACTUAL EVIDENCE and continue to call for gun control (i.e. the DISARMING of DECENT CITIZENS, thereby denying them the ability to exercise their God-given right to self-defense) are those about whom Mencken wrote: Their goal is NOT about preserving life. It is about the hell-bent pursuit of the impossible to achieve Utopian world where all are equal but some (thatd be THEM) are MORE equal than others (thatd be US).
There are many PRO-RTKABA videos on You Tube that your often busy lives dont allow you to find on your own. Search there for Gun Control, watch them and, more importantly SHARE THEM with the folks in your orbit.
Were in a fight. And losing will ultimately cost us much more than our right to our guns.
“Fertilizer and kerosene are readily available, and suitable for a mass killing spree.”
Not really. You can mix up all the fertilizer and fuel oil in the world, it won’t do anything but burn on its own. You need a not readily available high order explosive in order to create a shockwave to detonate that mixture.
“Or maybe its just the ability to privately own a gun out of which all corruption follows.”
Yes, that’s his real thesis, if you can manage to stomach all his nauseating bloviating to ferret it out. He thinks that just allowing private ownership of firearms creates a “gun culture” that encourages violence.
They do not have a monopoly on the legal use of violence. Some may have been trying to take it away with, for instance, the Zimmerman case. But self-defense is still our paramount right.
In a free society with a rational culture and a just government, when a person wants something, he must be willing to pay the necessary price. It is a natural law-and a fact of human nature-that a good or service can only be supplied if supplying it is both worthwhile to the suppliers, and as worthwhile as any of the alternatives open to them.Moore's utopia is the conditions of parasites preying on victims.
It’s a good thing for the morbidly obese Moore that most Americans don’t view him as people.
MM needs to move.....to Cuba or Venezuela. I’m sick of hearing from this shark chum.
You can mix up all the fertilizer and fuel oil in the world, it wont do anything but burn on its own. You need a not readily available high order explosive in order to create a shockwave to detonate that mixture.
True, you need blasting caps (not a high order of explosive). Easy to obtain on the underground market.
Yes, blasting caps are (or rather they contain) a high order explosive, which is why you can only get them on the black market, unless you have a license. If you got your hands on enough blasting caps, you could make a powerful bomb just out of those.
