Bank Robbers Joseph Banks, Kenneth Conley use bed sheets to escape Chicago prison.
They rappelled down the building from the 15th floor.
Two convicted bank robbers were on the run after using a knotted rope or bed sheets to escape from a federal prison window high above downtown Chicago early Tuesday, a week after one of them made a courtroom vow of retribution.
The escape occurred sometime between 5 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. when the inmates were discovered missing, Chicago Police Sgt. Mark Lazarro said. Hours later, what appeared to be a rope, knotted at six-foot intervals, could be seen dangling from a window of the Metropolitan Correctional Center approximately 20 stories above the ground.
Joseph “Jose” Banks, 37, and Kenneth Conley, 38, had been wearing prison-issue orange jumpsuits, but now might be wearing white t-shirts, gray sweat pants and white gym shoes, Lazarro said.

I would never trust a rope made out of strips of bedsheets. ever. but then again, I wouldn't trust a rope made out of unshredded sheets, either, so I guess my personal preference is irrelevant.

I doubt they ‘rappelled’ on the knotted sheets.
I have used carabineer brakes, figure ‘8’s, hot seats and more but never on a knotted rope!
A hot seat rap with knots on vertical would very time consuming.
Most likely they climbed knot to knot.
Never having used bead sheets , I wonder how much stretch? Like an old length of Goldline.

Just call them biner’s or crabs.
You’ve gotta know that these guys are likely to head someplace warm since it’s winter, and that they will do whatever it takes to survive. They’ve already robbed banks, and made a dramatic escape from that prison. That means that nobody is safe until they are caught.
I’ve already lost a relative due to this type of situation and just because you might live a thousand or two miles away, does NOT mean you are safe.
So, pay attention to your surroundings, don’t travel alone in your car if you can help it and if you do, make sure your doors are locked so someone can’t just jump in and hold you at gun point.
Plan as best you can in advance so that if you are car jacked, to smash into something HARD, fast and furious. You could get hurt doing so, you might even die, but chances are if you don’t do it, you will be killed anyway later when you aren’t needed any more.
They will be desperate for transportation, cash/credit cards, food, guns, places to sleep. Anybody in their path is a likely victim.
Get a good look at their pix, memorize them, and pay attention, be safe.
Don’t leave valuables inside your car.

Close. The bedsheet ladder was just a diversion. The paid off a guard who snuck them out in a laundry hamper.
Ban bed sheets. Bed sheet control now.
Oh, yeah, and raise taxes.

Which is why I would be dead by the second sheet. I can’t tie a knot to save my life. Except for shoelaces, those are unbreakable once they knot up.
They need to do more thorough body cavity searches.
