National Survey of 1,000 Adults Conducted December 17-18, 2012 By Rasmussen Reports

1* How closely have you followed news stories about the recent shooting at an elementary school in Connecticut?

2* Does the United States need stricter gun control laws?

3*Does the United States need to take more action to identify and treat mental health issues?

4* Does the United States need to place limits on violent movies and video games?

5* Can schools ever be made completely safe against violence like the incident in Connecticut?

6* What will do the most to reduce the number of mass murders like the school shootings in Connecticut—stricter gun control laws, more action to treat mental health issues, or limits on violent movies and video games?

7* How likely is it that congress and the president will create tougher gun control laws?

8* How likely is it that congress and the president will place limits on violent movies and video games?

9* Do you own a gun?

NOTE: Margin of Sampling Error, +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence

Not one question about whether allowing responsible, volunteer adults to carry defensive firearms in schools, even though it has been proposed by at least two governors and congressmen.

This is creating the result you want by limiting the choices.

An even better question:

If you subtract the violent crimes committed by minorities from American crime statistics, the U.S. has a crime rate similar to Sweden. Taking this fact into consideration, does America have a gun problem or a minority problem?

The margin of error is about the number of people sampled versus the total population. It says nothing about the answers being off because of bias in the questions.

All gun problems were solved in 1968.

"Today we begin to disarm the criminal and the careless and the insane. All of our people who are deeply concerned in this country about law and order should hail this day." --Lyndon Johnson signing the 1968 GCA into law

Reading through the data that is presented it appears that a fairly large majority do not wish more gun laws.

The last question, serves two purposes in this poll. First, in the current high emotions state of the nation, it creates a perception of lower firearm owner numbers, as many feel vilified and blamed, and will not volunteer that they are firearm owners.

Second, it serves to delegitimize those who disagree with imposing draconian gun control, by showing that a large number of them own guns, i.e. belong to the group that is being demonized, and whose opinion is therefore illegitimate.

Nasty stuff.

I'd like to see that last one changed to:

9* Are you confused and/or concerned about all the changes to the "official" account of what happened?

Make everyone home school, then this will never happen again.

"Following School Shooting, 86% Want More Action to Identify and Treat Mental Illness"

That's good news. At least they identify the symptoms. Now all they have to do is target the disease - liberal policies in the public schools. The kids are being raised like pack animals.

"The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 48% of Americans believe more action to treat mental health issues will do the most to prevent incidents like last Friday’s school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut. "

I'm SHOCKED that this got through! Half of murders are committed by a readily identifiable and tiny segment of the US population, add in the 10% of murderers who are psychotic -- and we are Canada in terms of our homicide rate.
