At News Conference, Reporters Skip Past Gun Control and Face Instant Criticism
The new York Times ^ | december19, 2012 | By BEN SISARIO

His words, after five days of extensive news coverage and national debate, were intensely focused on gun violence. He addressed no other topics. Yet judging by the questions that followed his address, most of the members of the Washington press corps had other things on their minds.

“I’d like to ask you about the other serious issue consuming this town right now, the fiscal cliff,” was the first question, from The Associated Press’s correspondent, Ben Feller.

Mr. Obama answered. Then came the next question, again about the so-called “fiscal cliff”: “What is your next move?” Then: “You mentioned the $700,000, $800,000 — are you willing to move on income level?” And so on, for at least 15 minutes, before a question about gun violence was finally asked, by David Jackson of USA Today.

Media watchers on Twitter — mainly other members of the media and some whose job it is to watch it — quickly seized on the questions as a sign that the Washington press corps was out of step with the national agenda.

I dunno. Was Obama stressing gun control to distract from the fiscal issues, or were the reporters stressing the fiscal cliff to distract from gun control.

The comments have to be read to be believed. Typical leftists who can’t believe that everyone isn’t fixated on the same things they are. They demand complete obeisance to the party line.

They misbehaved.. shame of the MSM employees.

There was a website owned by a comedy writer, the firehat.com I think it was called. He was constantly writing about Clinton and labeled Clinton news briefings,

reporter obedience training.

I have seen no national debate. All I’ve seen a a liberal leftist MSM pushing a gun control agenda. No debate, Smirking and shouting down anyone who disagrees with their propaganda. This is the most biased I have ever seen the MSM. Alot of it is ignorance of firearms.

"National agenda" = NYT's agenda.

No sale, NYT. Your "agenda" has no traction.

Obama made a forceful announcement in response to the massacre of children last week in Newtown, Conn. He said he was directing Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. to lead an effort “to come up with a set of concrete proposals” about dealing with gun violence that he would submit to Congress no later than January.

Forceful, my butt. Blue Ribbon panels are what Washington creates when they want the appearance of doing something while doing nothing. Simpson-Bowles anyone?

The New York Times, still believing it can tell the rest of the news media what to do. Those days are long over.

The New York Times, wasting time talking about other parts of the news media. The Times doesn’t control the news media anymore.

My thought exactly. Permanent, imminent ruin ranks right up there with gun control speeches and pressers.

“Look over there, no, look over here”, has given Obama a leg up everytime it’s tried, and the clock is running.
