Skip to comments.Gov. Christie: Americans need to have a 'national discussion' about gun control
Posted on 12/19/2012 7:47:55 PM PST by Tailgunner Joe
TRENTON Gov. Chris Christie said tonight that gun control is one of several issues that must be examined to prevent tragedies like Fridays school shooting in Connecticut.
On New Jersey 101.5 FMs "Ask the Governor," Christie said Americans should engage in a "national discussion" about gun control, as well as the stigma associated with mental health treatment and violence in the media.
"What role does the media play in terms of the violence we see on television and the movies? And the violent video games that I think desensitize our children to the real effects of violence. So I think we have to have a national discussion," the governor said.
When asked whether gun control was an issue as well, Christie said, "Gun control absolutely has to be part of that discussion too."
Christie said New Jersey has the second-toughest gun laws in the nation, behind New York. "Ive been a supporter of that as governor and will continue to be," he said.

Actually, we’d rather talk about why you’re so fat.
Rino’s coming out of the woodwork everywhere!
ph()ck you porky.
It’s called 2A.
Now stfu and go eat salt water taffy down at the shore.
Maybe it’s time to have a national discussion about tar and feather control.
Friggin fat ass POS.
Here's the full text of my contribution to the discussion concerning gun control:
Isn't he a big target?
Put the fork down, Governor Krispie Kreme. Shut up and switch to the democrat party already. You worthless pile of goat smegma.
Hey Chris, I think its about time we have a national discussion about why your such a fat ass..Good God I need to get a 100 inch TV screen in order to fit all of you in..perhaps there should be a national discussion on the effects of spoons filled with cake
Where are the Christie groupies tonight?
In the Bible, the “whore of Babylon” is not exclusively female. Just sayin’.
Don't you just love that phrase? All the pols are suddenly using it. It sounds so reasonable, like everybody in America gets to speak and give their opinion, and be listened to.
What it REALLY means is, "we need more gun control."
While you are “dicsussing,” the rest of us are buying guns like mad.
He needs to worry about his own damn state.
These east coast governors seem to think they matter to the rest of the country.
Yeah, just like we had a national discussion about race.
And we see how well that turned out.
The national discussion about guns should be a bp-sized blast......
Beggin’ your pardon, sir, but how long would it take you to know you’d been shot?
Hey Governour Chrispie Kreme, we already HAD a national discussion about gun control. Your side lost it a long time ago.
He ate them.......
I think a discussion on gun control is very important.
It should be discussed and practiced on the gun range.
I’ll offer up the same contribution to the national discussion on gun control that I did yesterday.
If the GOP rolls over on this issue, I’m out. Done. Finished. If they’re not going to support me, I see no reason why I should support them.
To the fat RINOs of the world, I just say this: I suspect that if you want to render the GOP completely irrelevant in national politics, and guarantee one-party control by Democrats for a generation, this would be a good way to do it.
No, Chris Christie needs to go on a diet.
Fully automatic, high capacity, assault spoons.....
Where have I heard the rhetoric before?
Oh yeah, Eric Holder and our national discussion on race.
What you really mean is you assholes pontificate and we little people are supposed to listen to your unbridled wisdom.
***”Gun control absolutely has to be part of that discussion too.” ***
NO, Governor, MENTAL HEALTH needs to be THE DISCUSSION!
the nation has talked about gun control, publically and privately, for as long as I can remember. And, I am told from time to time, that I’m older than dirt. So what’s new???
Everything I ever needed to know about gun control I learned on a Marine Corps rifle range..............
Chris Christie put the shaft to Romney just before the election by hugging Obama for hurricane money. Now he is dissing the whole gun owning population of the US.
The Second Amendment is what keeps the government from trashing all the Amendments and most of the Constitution. It is our threat to government that we won’t stand for tyranny. It is a deterrence, just like the US nuke arsenal kept the Soviets in line during the Cold War. We never wanted a nuke war, but we said do one and die. It’s the same with tyranny, we don’t want to fight government armed forces as they have tanks and artillery, but we could make it a bit tough for them and slow them down.
During the assault gun ban, data showed magazine limits and style of firearms limits did not lessen gun violence. Data on CCW states clearly shows an armed honest populace lessens crime and firearm attacks.
Tell your congress critter and your state representatives to keep their mitts off your gun rights.
Our nationwide search for the new face of the RINO-party has been completed. Thank you for your interest. We are no longer hiring.
I’m ready for a discussion on gun control...
I prefer the two handed grip, although I was
taught single hand in the Marine corps.
In Rifles a sling is a great help.
Well, governor, the process for your “national conversation” is already in place. It’s called a Constitutional Amendment.
Until then, get out of my life.
can you imagine for a moment someone saying that we must review the first amendment and freedom of speech and the press.....lots of luck there!!
FU spawn of Miss Piggy.
I am amazed that so many so called intelligent "Freepers" resort to ridiculing Christie , not for his stance on a subject, but for his weight...That my friends is PATHETIC
if you have nothing intelligent to say....silence is golden
Christie Kreme weighs in.
Seriously, if that stinking tub gets anywhere near the GOP nomination in ‘16 I will - - finally - - conclude that reforming the GOP is an impossible task, and for the first time in my life I will support a third party option.
This gun grabber Christie Kreme is the guy Ann Coulter loves.
Watch out for those national discussions about anything.
Et tu Christie?
Northeastern gungrabbing liberals are worthless, especially if they have an R next to their name. Commie Christie’s opinion is worth his weight in dung.
You make an excellent point.
“Gov. Christie: Americans need to have a ‘national discussion’ about elephant gun control.”
The anticonstitutionalists are selling off their gun company stocks, it’s time for 2nd Amendment supporters to start buying stock in gun manufacturers and stores that sell guns. Vote with your stocks.
We should start referring to the gun grabbers as the anti-constitutionalists. Use every word like it is your last bullet.
Before he says NJ tough gun laws work he should walk the Newark, Camden and Paterson streets at night without his armed guards!
I agree with Gov. Christie, that America must have a discussion about gun rights.
If the Founders were comfortable with private citizens owning crew served weapons (cannon) and war ships, good enough for Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, Madison,Daniel Webster, Tench Coxe, etc. is good enough for America today.
After all, who understood Man and government better, the above mentioned Founders or Commies like Saul Alinsky and his acolytes Obama, The HillaBeast, ad nauseam?
I think we've reached a point where many Freepers are tired of responding to absurd politicians with intelligent responses.
The pols are so far gone, and Freepers are so frustrated.
Yes, Christie! Good for you! Stand for your principals! And stand on the sideline and kiss your dreams of 2016 good-bye!
That is a good idea.
What “Americans” really need to do is have a “national conversation” about the Bill of Right and see if any of them have a clue about how the Bill or Rights is supposed to work.
