Suspended ESPN analyst offers apology for RG3 comments

Posted on 12/19/2012 8:17:31 PM PST by chessplayer

ESPN is mum on what this means for his suspension or employment, but here’s Robert Parker’s statement:

I blew it and I’m sincerely sorry. I completely understand how the issue of race in sports is a sensitive one and needs to be handled with great care. This past Thursday I failed to do that. I believe the intended topic is a worthy one. Robert’s thoughts about being an African-American quarterback and the impact of his phenomenal success have been discussed in other media outlets, as well as among sports fans, particularly those in the African-American community. The failure was in how I chose to discuss it on First Take, and in doing so, turned a productive conversation into a negative one. I regrettably introduced some points that I never should have and I completely understand the strong response to them, including ESPN’s reaction. Perhaps most importantly, the attention my words have brought to one of the best and brightest stars in all of sports is an unintended and troubling result. Robert Griffin III is a talented athlete who not only can do great things on the field, but off the field handles himself in a way we are all taught – with dignity, respect and pride. I’ve contacted his agent with hopes of apologizing to Robert directly. As I reflect on this and move forward, I will take the time to consider how I can continue to tackle difficult, important topics in a much more thoughtful manner.

Yes, black racist doctrines which result in segregation, hate, envy, resentment aggression, bullying and violence is an important topic to discuss.

I don’t think he’s good enough or smart enough to repent from race hate.

ESPN is moving towards social commentary. Colin Cowherd has been babbling about guns and being flexible with the the second amendment and on and on about stupid conservatives. Basketball coaches and sports idiots are joining the lib propaganda machinery.

I liked it when it was just bread and circuses. But even sports is being corrupted by the “progressives” and now another enjoyable thing ,watching sports , is turned into an activity like movies and television, where you get to laugh and enjoy till the obligatory slam against conservatives and Christians occur.

Such a waste. I’d advocate not to buy the products advertised on the ESPN channels and drop an email to the companies stating you’d like sports and the rest of the politics can get shoved down our throats by the usual methods.

“He just wants his job back. He isn’t sorry in the least.”

I’m pretty sure he’s not lost his job. After all, to fire him would be racist./s

He meant what he said, and I would bet most of the white apologist liberals at ESPN (Olney, Reilly, et al.) agreed with him...

He doesn’t take back any of what he said. Just basically said you can’t be quite so direct when talking sports.

Parker’s been a white hater from the get go. What upsets
Parker is that RG3 doesn’t fit the profile of a young
black man in today’s society.Notwithstanding, everything
in that profile is negative!

Not even gonna read it.
I already know from his past history that he doesn’t mean it.
When he get’s with his buds he’ll say, “Guess it ain’t clear to call out the brothers hangin’ with Becky yet. Damn.” And his bros will say, “Give it time, man. Just give it time.”

This is nothing new. Remember back in the OJ trial days, something came up about OJ and his pal, I forget the driver’s name of the white SUV, but there was talk that OJ, that guy, and most of their gang only wanted white women and other black were whining about it. Can’t remember all the details now it has been so long, but there was some complaining even back then.

Just in your race baiting addled mind... I'd say most Americans haven't given a damn about race in sports since Jesse Owens, Joe Louis, and Jackie Robinson.
