Navy: Working Uniforms Extremely Flammable
Military.com ^ | 12/16/2012 | Cristina Silva

If this sticky molten material came in contact with skin it would contribute to increased burn injury due to conductive energy transfer,” the report concluded. “The use of the NYCO material in an environment where there is potential for a flame or thermal threat is not recommended.”

Sailors on ships are regularly exposed to the threat of fire, especially those working with or near planes or engines.

The Navy removed its requirement that all uniforms be flame-resistant in 1996.

Well, who ever heard of a fire at sea?

I certainly hope I don’t need to add the s/s/s/ to this.

Awesome. That is a stupid looking uniform anyway. Why would anybody think that a digital blue cammo would be worthwhile for absolutely anything. The only camouflage the Navy should be buying is for Corpsmen, EOD, Spec Warfare, SEABEES, and all the sailors that get stuck on rotations doing the Army’s job for them. The regular haze gray and under way sailors should go to a blue working uniform like the Coast Guard or the old blue jump suits.

Money. Some lobbyist or web of contacts to a congressman or friend ended up with the contract. Always money.

In the Navy you worry about flash burn exposure and fire. That accounted for most of the casualties on ships. During WWII..many wore flash suits...the German and Japanese Navies were fully equipped with flash suits.

I thought they fixed that back in the '40s. I guess smarter people figured out a better solution that results in worse casualties.

I've frequented places where squids congregate.

I don't expect they'll put up with this for long.

Waiting for a Chief rant.....3,2,1...

They wear it so that if someone falls off the ship, nobody can see them.

There will be a Chief along in a bit to 'splain things and set things right.

This zoomie is respectful of the command of language and direct intent of Navy Chiefs.

Yes, the patch pocket dungaree trousers, with a pressed dungaree shirt and clean white hat, with shined shoes was a GOOD LOOKING work uniform, easy to store and durable.

When the patch pocket dungarees became scarce they came out with the slash pocket and they looked ‘terrible’. We referred to them as ‘Wave Trousers’ and wore the old style till they ‘forced’ us out of them....

Believe that was called chambrey - at least the shirts?

Chambray shirts and denim pants. Some people call chambray denim, too. Easy to care for, all cotton, though linen is better but more expensive.......

They give them different uniforms so you won’t
mistake them for Marines. You’d think they
would be easy to spot with that MOP in their
hand...

The ol poopie suit was the best ever.
No one cares what you look like 1000 feet below water.

That would be SWAB.

And, lest ye forget, a SQUID is an intelligent form of Marine Life.

Everything in this Country is being run by well-connected morons. It is shocking and shameful, really.

I also have a theory that many successful businesses send the “most stupid” family member into politics...thus removing the family idiot from business decisions, while gaining all kinds of favorable treatment.

.....and that's just in the last decade. Dungarees, replaced by working blues, replaced by the digital monstrosity. Then black garrison caps came out with one of those uniforms, the troops looked like they joined the SS. My second most despised uniform besides the digi camo is the khaki over black trou. Pull out those black pisscutters again and we are back to looking like the third Reich.

Don't even get me started on the "global force for good" slogan. I guess we wanted to take the heat off the Army for the "Army of One."

I still have my old submarine jump suits.
All The others I have trashed.

Worthless ceremonial garb.

At least the venerable poopie suit can be used to work on a car.
