Walmart not pulling gun after school shooting

Walmart, the world's largest retailer, announced it will not be pulling the type of weapon used in the Newtown school massacre off its shelves, while another major retailer announced it would.

Walmart confirmed Tuesday that it does sell the Bushmaster Sporting Rifle at its stores and plans to continue to do so.

"We have made no changes to the assortment of guns we sell in our stores," Walmart spokesperson Kory Lundberg said in a written statement.

Gutsy of them to come forward and say that they are *not* pulling it. They could more easily have said nothing. This is a positive development.

Rabid, frothing at the mouth, liberal anti-gun nuts don’t shop at Walmart anyway.

Good, there really is no reason to do any of this especially because all of this is not based on knowledge of the background behind the events leading up to the massacre.

And, they aren't price gouging.
I got 12 boxes of .223 yesterday at their normal price.

It won't be a matter of whether or not they stock it - it'll be whether or not it's in stock.

Whoever made the decision to stop selling guns at Dicks Sporting goods and then announce it to the world should be fired immediately.

All it did for Dicks was to draw unnecessary attention to the company and give it bad publicity on both sides of the argument. Anyone who had an issue with Dicks selling guns before will not be convinced to start shopping there now and anyone who thought it was great that Dicks sold guns is now less likely to shop there for anything ever again.

Political correctness kills. It kills children who are trapped in classrooms and it kills companies that react to such tragedies by making stupid policy changes in knee jerk response.

Wal Mart is making a smart business decision.

They tend to do that a lot. That is why they are the largest company in the world.

Considering arms are by and large made in America, we like Walmart about this stand.

Now, can they please sell more American goods?

Good for them. But aren’t they the same wal-mart that donated a bunch of $$$ to the obie campaign? I guess the silver spoon offspring of Sam don’t quite understand what their dad did to make them so well off. I understand the one daughter is “valued” at over 4.5 billion. More than her husband who is only valued at 4B. The just bought a ranch in WY or MT (can’t remember which) over 120K acres for close to 125 mil. Glad your purchase of 12 boxes helped them out. LOL! Maybe they’ll have us up for some big game hunting. Well, maybe not. At least they understand you don’t want to PO your customers like dicks did. Looks like CTD came to their senses after “reviewing their policies”. Enjoy your plinking with that “high powered” ammo.

Share the lead.

They have the best prices locally for long guns.

They are astute. They know which way the wind blows.

The hysteria will die down and this gun-grab will go nowhere. Gun owners and Constitutionalists though have a long memory. They will remember the names of the politicians and businesses who did not support them and will act accordingly.

Sell your stock in Dicks Sporting Goods.

No need to pull them off the shelves, they were all sold a couple days ago and back ordered for the next 6 months.

Smart move on their part. Dick’s (Dickless) will be filing bankruptcy before the next year’s out, I predict. I plan on helping them get there by not shopping there and informing everyone I know to do the same. Prices are way too high anyway.

Now if we can bring back supply of 90% of what Walmart sells to America, we would not need so many government jobs.

Come on America, what is it?

We need jobs. If we cannot get them from manufacturing, the Dems will make them up and pay them out of the clear blue sky.

Importation is extremely dangerous. We need less imports.

Make stuff in America once again.

Good for them. I’m glad to hear this.

They also sell some decent gun safes at a good price.

Here’s a YouTube link to a description of the safes.

The local Dick’s store is already on my “no shop” list but they will soon have much more competition to contend with. Academy Sporting Goods store is almost finished and will have about 4 times the floor space. The new store is roughly 4 tenths of a mile from Dicks and on the same street. It will be interesting to see what happens to Dick’s business. Will it fall off?

I normally don't, either ... looks like that will change.

A very bad episode of 'gastric distress' kept me away from Chick-Fil-A for years ... until the faggots protested it. I'm a satisfied CFA customer again.

I need to call Mr. Lundberg. Apparently word didn’t make it down to my local store. I just now called to ask if any were in stock (they were not) and asked about ordering one and was told that “the President” won’t allow that. I was sort of flabbergasted and said he hasn’t banned them yet, but she still insisted that they were not allowed to order AR15 style rifles. I told her she was wrong. This isn’t the end of this.

I wouldn’t have bought a gun at Dicks anyway. Their specialty is shoes as far as I’m concerned. You talk to them about anything else and they don’t have a clue.

The best dealers specialize in guns. I’ve got my sights on a BAR Safari, 30.06. It is an awesome deer rifle and deadly to larger varmints (coyotes are a problem here). It’ll reach out and touch them at a couple hundred yards.

Since it’s a gas-operated, autoloader, the regime will say it’s a “semi-automatic assault rifle”. Which is silly. I believe with the 30.06, it only holds 4-5 rounds in its clip, and there is no fully auto, machine gun effect.

In essence, it’s not a whole lot different than a Civil War Spencer repeating rifle. Which is the case with just about every “semi-automatic”.

Would I go to Dicks to get such a gun? I don’t think they’d even know what I’m talking about.

They do where I live. Given the political sticker breakdown, I'd say most days the shoppers that fit that definition run at least 35 - 40%

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the AR15 was NOT used at Newtown. Two handguns (Glock 20 in 10mm and a SigSaur in 9mm) were used.

News reports I've read indicated it was found in the trunk of shooter's vehicle.

In the past, they caved to Handgun Control Inc and quit selling handguns. Then a few years later, they quit selling military style rifles.

Then a couple of years back they began to sell rifles again.

Are those real Coyotes in Southern Ohio or some kind of half wolf mix-breed?

The coyotes here in Southern California are generally about the size of a medium dog and are usually as skinny as a concentration camp survivor and could easily be put down with one shot from a .22.

One would think a 30.06 might be overkill (unless you wanted to try to kill 3 or 4 with one shot). When you say “larger varmits” and coyotes together in the same sentence it doesn’t compute with my Southern California experience.

Just how big are your coyotes?

The one I saw walking through my back yard last week was as large as my yearling Ridgeback, but it was in its winter fur, so it appeared larger.

A recent article about the eastern coyote says:

Wolves in the eastern United States are hybrids of gray wolves and coyotes, while the region's coyotes actually are wolf-coyote-dog hybrids, according to a new genetic study that is adding fuel to a longstanding debate over the origins of two endangered species.

I was a bit surprised at the size of the one I saw last week. We do have black bear in the region that were released by wildlife folks about a decade ago, but I've not seen one, although some church members a few miles to the east of us into the hills have.

Varmints require firepower!

I've heard stories of people cutting down trees with an M16 on full auto. Any truth to that rumor?

The ones in my neighborhood are so skinny they could fit through the bars on my wrought iron fence. But I don't think they'd try because they'd have to deal with my 25 pound/24 claw cat (who we nicknamed "Killer" - although his penchant for dragging the corpses of his victims through the cat door has pretty much faded off as he has aged. I always expected that someday he'd drag a coyote through the door, but so far the biggest animal he has disemboweled on my living room floor has been a jackrabbit).

If a person were persistent and had an awful lot of rounds to blow (or a really small tree), they could cut a tree. But a 5.56 round is the same size as a .223 caliber which is just .003 larger in diameter than a .22LR round.

I believe the spec ops miniguns mounted on AH6’s fire 5.56, and I’ve no doubt they could cut down a tree, but that thing puts out thousands of rounds really quick.

Any of the 7.76 weapons on full auto could get around to it and is a good reason for really understanding the difference between cover and concealment.

Mythbusters tried it.

Couldn’t do it with an M16 but easily took care of things with a minigun, 3000 rounds a minute.

As with a lot of early reporting on this story, much was wrong. It appears that the rifle was used and found with the dead shooter.
