Calif. ocean sanctuaries to be doubled

President Obama is poised to protect 2,093 square nautical miles of ocean habitat off the coast of Sonoma and Mendocino counties, a move that would more than double the area covered by two national sanctuaries off the West Coast and permanently ban offshore oil drilling there.

The decision, expected Thursday, would create an enormous preserve stretching some 50 miles along the California coast and extending some 30 miles out to sea. It would also fulfill the long-held dream of Rep. Lynn Woolsey, D-Petaluma, who has tried repeatedly since 2004 to pass legislation protecting the coastal ecosystem.

Years ago, I was fascinated by Germany in the 1930s. How did Hitler come to power? Once he got there, why didn't they re-think things and get him out of power? The political situation in Germany at that time was so radically different from the situation that I grew up with in America, that I couldn't really grasp how it all went so bad so quickly.

Now I see. Enthusiastic Americans, joyfully watching the propaganda, cherrily elect and re-elect a dictator. These citizens HATE anyone who disagree with them. They HATE the Constitution. They HATE freedom and commerce. They think they are the good guys, and they are flabbergasted that morons like us are allowed to exist. No doubt they will "take care of us" as soon as they get the chance. You can see the preparatory actions right now. The Clampdown is coming.

Never thought I'd see the day.

Remember, he was Mister Hitler and very popular in Hollywood when he first rose to power. Only the Three Stooges lampooned him in 1940. He didn’t become “Hitler” until after Pearl Harbor.

There must be proven supplies of oil and / or natural gas there. Otherwise the regime would not care about “protecting” it.

extending some 30 miles out to sea.

30 miles? Our territorial waters only extend 12 miles out, don't they?

Rep. Lynn Woolsey, D-Petaluma was a welfare mother before becoming a member of Congress. She has no concept of how the private sector works.

Indeed, since they stopped the offshore drilling years ago, the systems have pressurized and now are seeping into the bay naturally through cracks in the ocean floor. When the oil was being tapped, the natural seepage stopped. The ocean was cleaner when drilling was happening. But as you hinted, its not about the ecology, its about the money to politicians. If they can't tap it, nobody can.

...permanently ban offshore oil drilling there

California didn't need the oil tax revenue anyway.
