Obama Approval at 56%, Highest Since October 2009 [National Tragedy Effect]
Gallup ^ | 12//20/12 | Gallup

President Barack Obama's job approval rating has risen to 56%, by two percentage points his highest three-day reading since October 2009. Although the president's job approval rating has been in the 50% range for much of the time since his re-election, the new high point this week coincides with the aftermath of the Dec. 14 mass school shootings in Newtown, Conn.

The 56% average is for Monday through Wednesday, Dec. 17-19. Obama's job approval had reached 54% during the week prior to the Newtown shootings, but had dropped to 51% from Dec. 11-13, the three days just prior to Dec. 14.

The timing of the increase in Obama's ratings could reflect a broad-based public reaction to the Newtown shootings, similar to the "rally around the flag" effect often seen at the start of wars and other threats to national security, in which Americans rally behind their leader. It could also reflect the impact of the president's specific actions after the tragedy, including his attendance and speech at a Newtown prayer service Sunday night, and his appointment on Wednesday of a national task force to recommend steps that can be taken to reduce gun violence in the future.

Americans are rallying around the Occupier in the wake of the shootings.

That is all that is happening.

He still is at 100% disapproval in this household.

I’m afraid it’s more than that. I am fairly mortified at how many of my fellow citizens are cheering on his “soak the rich” campaign.

Give President Obama this - he can appear to relate to average Americans.

The GOP Establishment seems only to relate to lobbyists, pols, and pundits inside the beltway.

So could Clinton. If the average public is so dumb as to buy what 0 is selling and can’t figure him out, they deserve what they get. But, as usual, we have to suffer with the dim whits.

Axelrod is looking at these numbers and thinking about how he might have to arrange a high visibility mass murder on a monthly basis....

“If the average public is so dumb as to buy what 0 is selling and can’t figure him out, they deserve what they get.”

And it doesn’t help that the only alternative being offered to the average public is the GOP Establishment.

Sure it is. Why not just make it 88%? That’d be just as believable.

I believe this poll as much as I believe the housing and employment reports.

It helps that he has 90 percent of the news media on his side. They do their part in keeping the general public ignorant and in the dark regarding all the scandalous, outrageous and dumb things obama has done so far.

I humbly offer the following quote from a guy who observed this behavior more than 2,000 years ago:

Do not blame Caesar, blame the people of Rome who have so enthusiastically acclaimed and adored him and rejoiced in their loss of freedom and danced in his path and given him triumphal processions. Blame the people who hail him when he speaks in the Forum of the new wonderful good society which shall now be Romes, interpreted to mean more money, more ease, more security, and more living fatly at the expense of the industrious. - Marcus Tullius Cicero (106BC - 43BC)

Clinton was so unlucky that he never got to have anything like this happen on his watch so he could be a hero.

(Yes, that was sarcasm. People actually said that about Willie after 911.)

He’s nothing but a blood dancer, and i think the only thing he feels about the murders was that he could exploit them politically.

Right on. It is pretty hard - if not impossible - for the GOP to run on a platform of hard work and liberty when Baraq O'claus is giving away goodies right and left, freedom be damned.

The media are the problem. You can't really blame the idiots who approve of Obama after watching the news media practically worship the man. If I watched the news and believed it I'd be an Obamamaniac, too.

I’m going to use that. Thanks. History repeating itself and not too many read or heed history or they just want the same things people wanted 2,000 years ago - to be taken care of with no responsibilities. Shame.

Exactly, and it is why America has gone to the dogs.
One might blame education, the media, and vile immoral culture.
The Communist know very well the keys to their success.
I look for continuing decline in the once great country, and then formation on the USSA.
Only God can save America, but he is not talking.

When I saw ‘National Tragedy Effect’ in the title brackets I just assumed the ‘National Tragedy’ was that so many Americans support this Marxist fraud ...
Now I see the reference was to the Connecticut shootings. Although the 28 murders is tragic, the National Tragedy is in the White House and those that support him.

Didn't we all learn a lesson about not believing polls just because we don't like the results?

I have no doubt the poll is entirely accurate.

So he is still in the 50s, I’ll say this but that number will not last.
