Poll: Gun control beats 2nd amendment
politico ^ | 12/20/12 | KEVIN CIRILLI

But a Gallup poll released Wednesday found that more Americans think banning assault and semi-automatic guns wouldn’t be as effective at preventing school shootings compared with alternatives — such as increasing the government’s mental health spending and adding police presence at schools.

Pew notes that public opinion for gun control legislation remains significantly lower than before Obama took office.

“I knew where this was going yesterday when Obama repeatedly said that the majority of Americans agree with him and called for them to get out there and put pressure on those unreasonable republicans for gun control and raising taxes.”

the majority of Americans voted for the kenyan which just proves once again the majority of americans are low-information, cult-loving idiots.

It’s the low information voters again. Any moron who would vote for the Kenyan, twice, doesn’t really shive a git about rights and freedom. All they care about are freebies, handouts and Obama foams. IOW: They are the lowest form of life to ever roam this planet.

That a legally owned item is stolen and then used in an illegal manor somehow justifies ownership restrictions is absurd.

Ordinarily such a claim would be laughed out of town, yet that is precisely the claim being made by the gun banners.

The gun used by Lanza was stolen. He then used the stolen gun in an illegal manner. Yet politicians known to have an agenda seem to think this justifies ownership restrictions.

Suppose a legally owned automobile is stolen and then used in an illegal manor, like racing. Would that somehow justify restrictions on automobile ownership? Of course not.

Ordinarily such a “justification” would not be possible. While emotions are high and people are suggestible, it is possible.

Politicians are trying to stampede an emotionally sensitized populace.

Never let a serious crisis go to waste... it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.

Exploiting this heinous crime is deplorable.

What can you expect from a government that smuggles weapons to another country, gets people on both sides of the border killed, only to try to use it to attack our constitutional rights.

The writing is convoluted (no doubt on purpose-it is Politico), but if I am deciphering it correctly, the result is that people think more attention to mental health and a police presence at schools would be MORE EFFECTIVE than banning assault and semi-automatic weapons. That is a good thing - most people get it. Also, according to Pew, less people support more gun control NOW than BEFORE Obama took office. That is also a good thing.

Yeah. That's how I read it, too. More people want to stay armed, but something should be done about the crazies.

The police have not completed their investigation. Yet Obama demands his “task force” report by January - less than 2 weeks from now - the steps to be taken to “prevent this from happening again”.

The exploitation of the crime is incredible.

Fine. So, if the nitwits want to do away with the 2nd Amendment, they are welcome to begin the process and attempt to get 2/3rds of the states to vote to discard the amendment with which they have such problems.

Good luck with that, moonbats.

Our founders deliberately created a form of government that works at a snails pace to avoid knee jerk reactions. With Obama, everything is urgent and needs to be done yesterday.

This is something Ive been thinking about for quite awhile. You see, Im someone tasked by the state through private business to take care of those with "disabilities".

Approximately, 25% of those Im responsible for overseeing are grifters. There is nothing wrong with them that a swift kick in the pants wouldnt fix.

Another 25% are people with real need. They have a range of disabilities encompassing both physical and mental issues that require real assistance.

Another approximately 25% belong in institutions. Yes, I know that that is extremely expensive (mostly due to unions). Even though pharmacology has progressed a great deal in the last decade, these people, through no direct fault of their own, do not and cannot accept societal norms and may act out in ways society as a whole cannot accept.

The final 25% are an extreme and imminent danger to themselves and the community around them. Their physicians should be stripped of their licenses and many incarcerated themselves for the danger they have knowingly visited on the community. These clients history often speaks of individuals who can identify right from wrong yet are allowed to attempt to deliver their particular form of depravity against a community due to the twisted liberalisation of the courts (thank you, ACLU). Those in this final group all belong in prison, possibly forever.

Until we have a serious discussion about the actual capabilities of these individuals with real disabilities versus Hollywoods "Corky" examples, those who require full time supervision outside of the community, the grifters parasitically feeding on our system, and the dangerous criminals allowed to participate due to clever representation, we will NEVER achieve anything even vaguely similar to a reasonable approach to the problems society experiences.

Meanwhile, membership to the “Second Amendment Organization”, known as the National Rifle Association, has increased 8000 per day since the Sandy Hook shootings.

Also, people are beginning to figure out that the Fiscal Cliff mess isn’t all about the Republicans. The Dems and Obama are crossing a line that they will not be able to go back over.

I suggest to politico that if they REALLY believe what they just wrote, challenge your readers to go to all the local gun shops in their area and ATTEMPT to buy the following:

1, AR-15 rifle of any make
and
1, 30 round magazine for the same rifle.

Let me tell you up front, IF you manage to find one of either, you will pay 4X the price for the item as you would have paid just 5 days ago. I needed a couple of Mags and I can't even find them online unless I want to pay price-gouging rape fees on ebay. People are literally stripping the store shelves right now. It's even worse than the great idiotic ammo hoarding we had when jackass was elected the first time.

There will be no new gun ban... and for the record, I hope all those money grubbing price gougers get stuck with every last one of those magazines... grrrrr

America is in favor of gun control over the 2nd Amendment. Americans have always been in favor of gun control. "Mattresses were brought up from the cellars and pitched all over the corridors: meals consisted of sandwiches and Victory Coffee wheeled round on trolleys by attendants from the canteen. Each time that Winston broke off for one of his spells of sleep he tried to leave his desk clear of work, and each time that he crawled back sticky-eyed and aching, it was to find that another shower of paper cylinders had covered the desk like a snowdrift, half burying the speakwrite and overflowing on to the floor, so that the first job was always to stack them into a neat enough pile to give him room to work. What was worst of all was that the work was by no means purely mechanical. Often it was enough merely to substitute one name for another, but any detailed report of events demanded care and imagination. Even the geographical knowledge that one needed in transferring the war from one part of the world to another was considerable. By the third day his eyes ached unbearably and his spectacles needed wiping every few minutes. It was like struggling with some crushing physical task, something which one had the right to refuse and which one was nevertheless neurotically anxious to accomplish. In so far as he had time to remember it, he was not troubled by the fact that every word he murmured into the speakwrite, every stroke of his ink-pencil, was a deliberate lie. He was as anxious as anyone else in the Department that the forgery should be perfect." `Nineteen Eightyfour' The MSM `Winston Smiths' have been busy boys and girls.
