Git er done, Golden State. Its already working so well. From the guys at Reason TV, learn in five minutes why people are leaving California:
Tams Burger Stand will close in January of 2013 after its owner lost an appeal to the zoning board, which along with police, had decided his lawful business, run by a local family in a low-income neighborhood was a public nuisance. Ugh.
God forbid that a poor man attempt to do anything but reach his hand out for a welfare check in California.
That’s disgusting.
I live in an area of urban blight where three quarters of the businesses are shut down...the only liquor store im a ten mile radius went out of business...and if those remaining had to rely solely on customers with clean criminal records there would be NOTHING...no businesses whatsoever...
This guy can’t dictate the character of the customers who buy his burgers! And given the smug superior attitude of “Officer Shaft” trying to run him out of the neighborhood, I have to wonder if the skin color of the proprietor doesn’t have something to do with it...
Get out. Run, don’t walk.
You don’t want to be the “last white farmer in Califbabwe”.
Guess what? The rest of the country is becoming more and more like California, New York, and Illinois.
What states are red or purple and turning blue? - VA, NH, FL, CO, OH, and TX (around 2024).
What states are blue or purple and turning red? - NONE.
President Obama and the Democrats appear as if they relate to the people.
The GOP Establishment appears to relate to beltway lobbyists and the wealthiest.
One man cannot fight city hall.
They can make regulations faster than you can comply.
Sure the Govt. wanted him to place camera’s on his place that went directly to the police dept.
That way the police get video surveilance of the neighborhood for free./Then when the criminals find where it is coming from, they burn him out.
Demographics is destiny. Need a quiver full.
LOL, of course it does.
Don’t come here, we’re all out of room.
Sounds like an Agenda 21 operation. Bet there is some crony developer waiting to get the land after they force his to closeup. He’s closing the first week in Jan. 2013 and watch within 6 months the property will be condemned and bought up for some taxpayer funded urban renewal development.
I’m speechless,and I rarely am.
He’s running a business in a high crime area and they’re blaming him?
Astonishing !
and if they decide to leave taxifornia, they will get a bill for their fair share ofwhat they politicans overspent supposedly “on their behalf”. that’s being worked on by states right now.
No one wants to build in that hood
if it were losing money and seeking a public subsidy they would consider it a jewel of the ghetto
This is pretty common here in CA. There are all sorts of law that a city can use to harass you and even put you in jail. For example here in long beach they can fine you $500 if you put your garbage can out more than 2 hours before pick up. Everyone sets it out the night before but if they’re out to get you then they can use that. My guess is that he got on the wrong side of someone so they are simply trying to destroy his business because of that. Seen it happen a few times, not much you can do but move out.
You just got here, and you're already repeating that ugly talk? For shame.
The owner was declared to be “an enemy of the people!”

i have eaten there. The place is amazing, the best 99 cent hamburgers in the world.
Absolutely huge and delicious with very friendly employees.
I live in LB as well. Its both scary and hilarious to hear abt this trash can law. I bet there are countless laws that I violate every month, without the slightest clue. I feel like such an outlaw ;)
What a damn shame
If the burgers are free and you employ no show nieghborhood gangbangers you can stay
I've been here since 2005, but I don't ever tell fellow Freepers to 'stay home'. I had all sorts of ugly talk thrown at me, prior to relocating here from California. Still do sometimes.
I grew up in California (1960-74) but that was a different time and that place is never coming back. Obviously, the majority of present-day Californians are left-wing or the place wouldn’t be the way it is today, would it?
All correct, but those lefties aren't posting and reading on Free Republic. Your friends are.
The left reads FR, don’t kid yourself. Google your screen name here, they talk about us at length. And that’s who my comment was aimed at. I apologize for not making that clear. Of course I want conservatives to move here.
Don’t count on it. If they can get the land cheap and through eminent domain, there is probably a crony consortium aligned with government and Agenda 21 people that will foist some re-development onto the city. In fact, that would be a perfect spot for a revitalization project with apartments over first floor businesses and government offices. Please understand that local and federal tax money will be funding it so it will not have to be viable or profitable (think high speed rail).
