If it is the end, why does the guy think he will need a TV?

Is there anyplace to store all his preps?

Yes there is a small shelf which holds 5 or 6 remote TV and stereo remotes and has room left over for 2 cans a Chef Boyardee ravioli.

You have to have gasoline for a generator. The question is “How long will you need the gasoline?” I have a friend in NW Arkansas who has a 300 gallon tank. That’ll run a generator for a long time but eventually there’s no gas.

The only sure way to have electricity is a solar system. And that’s expensive. Of course, doesn’t look like this guy spared any expense.

He’ll have a place even the economy collapses to ride out the riots.

The only sure way to have electricity is a solar system.

Horsecrap. The only sure way to have 'lektrikity is to keep Texas off the national grid. And keep the coal coming.

I've done that fiddling around at the edges thing for a while.

Ain't nothing like flushing a toilet and running water, and flipping a light switch and having light.

I want a LARGE community to survive and thrive.

Hell, I'm thinking about putting running hot water in next year. Seriously.

JFC on a raft. I just checked to see if this version of linux would support a VT220. Heck, this version suports a VT-50 and a VT-52.

Obviously, it supports the standard VT-100 terminal. How would I use VI without that?

More disturbingly, it supports a real tty interface. There isn't even hardware that can sink or source that much current.

Yep, it also has a 'line printer on fire' error message.

I'm effectively running legacy software from the '60s and '70s.

Apple made billions off the same platform.

I would want one bigger too. A monolithic dome comes to mind. Maybe a few of them hooked together. There is nothing worse than claustrophobia. Also, care must be taken to properly insulate any underground structure. You don't want moisture to condense on the walls causing mold and mildew. That would be a nasty chore to take care of with limited water resources for cleaning. Here is one monolithic dome being built:

I wrote a lot of code on those things back in the day, I can't remember now exactly what it was hooked up to.

But, my theory is that to resurrect our civilization in the event of a catastrophe, we will need some VT220s.

There is nothing worse than claustrophobia

My shack in the mountain was 8 ft by 12 ft. About 8 ft high at the front, 4 ft high back where the cot was.

Lived there for over a year. That's a pretty roomy space to live in. If a crazy calf head bonks the front door, and walks in for coffee, it does get a little crowded, but there is space to walk on the ceiling, if required.

I watched the catz do that little thing while I stepped and fetched her coffee.

I have a friend who made his own hydrogen system and put it in his truck and it mixes with gas and he gets double the gas mileage now. Told me it will work on a generator too. Also said in time he can convert over to all hydrogen only. People like this will survive. He also is fooling around with batteries that run on salt water (sea water). I recently saw a thing that you can buy for about $700 that turns sea water into fresh drinking water. The people that are called Preppers know all this stuff I'm saying here.

True enough, I recognize fertilizer when I smell it.

Are you prepared? Go to sleep and wake up dead tomorrow kind of prepared?

Well, for those who didn't print out all those manuals (or get hard copy), the TV would be handy to watch gunsmithing videos...(especially if they are in VHS), not to mention I Love Lucy reruns...on tape/DVD, of course.

I don’t worry about the Mayan myth if that is what you mean. I live on Maui and at 1:11 TONIGHT It is supposed to happen. I will say my prayers, go to bed as I always do and have every confidence in the world that my Lord and Savior has complete control of my life, what ever it is.

Anyway, Merry Christmas.
