A Virginia man was arrested Wednesday after police say he brought a 2-by-4-foot board with the words 'High Powered Rifle' written on its side into Sandy Hook Elementary School in the town of Strasburg, MyFoxDC.com reported.
Christopher Johnson, 33, was apparently trying to bring attention to how easy it is to bring a weapon into a school, Scott Proctor, a major at the Shenandoah County Sheriffs office, said. Johnson was reportedly detained by a school resource officer before he was taken into police custody.

Stu peed oh
He’s got a valid point.
Since public schools are “gun free zones”, and since only law-abiding citizens would care about that, who or what is going to stop those who do not care about “gun free zones” from bringing guns there?
brilliant
Liberal moron thinks he's the only one who has seen a TV this week? As if there is a person on Earth who hasn't heard of Sandy Hook?
What was he charged with?
The sign says NO GUNS. He didn't bring a gun. It doesn't say NO BOARDS.
Did he threaten somebody with it?
Oh, here's the reporting:
Johnson lives in the same area as the school and used a black Sharpie to write on the wood, Proctor said.
Obama and his boot lickers sure aren't going to.
And there is so little said about Lanza (I believe this is true) coming to the school the day before and causing a ruccus...AND NO ONE CALLED LE??
Yeah he does have a point but his timing is horrible.
The dads of this school should catch this guy and he should be horsewhipped.
“2-by-4-foot board”
Huh? Was it 2 foot x 4 foot or 2”x4” a foot long lol
Assault board
Probably trespass. You're not allowed to enter a school without permission, as a safety precaution. Recent events showing how easy to violate those rules are notwithstanding, you don't want random people entering a school while children are there.

The man committed no crime. He printed words on a board that showed even AFTER the massacre one week ago, just how easy it was to do it again.
As a teacher, I want to be able to protect myself. I'm willing and capable of doing just that!
I thought only handguns were used?
During this week, I have paid visits to a few area schools. My looks don’t fit the “profile”...but I could just be crazy, too. In both schools, I was able to walk right in and wander around for approx. 3 minutes. That was all the time I could take.
At one school, I called the Sup after school was out and told him what I saw. I saw a school with no security whatsoever. And plenty of target rich environments (yeah, that’s a crude, visceral way to put it, but remember, I’m going into these schools trying to think like a bad guy). He was appalled, and admitted they had some “hardening up” to do. He was able to assure me that every classroom has an egress window. I think he got that the whole “hide in a closet” thing wouldn’t work anymore.
Next school...entirely glass entrance. sign says “everyone must check in”. Well, again, I’m a bad guy. I don’t pay attention to those signs. Hell, I prolly got my gun illegally, too. Big STOP sign in front of the principles office. I told the secretary (after I did my walk thru) that, as a bad guy, I probably would have shot the heck outta the sign, JUST BECAUSE I COULD!) Saw several staff, who mostly smiled and said hi to me. Again, many doors open, many rooms filled, kids all over the hall.
I explained what I was doing to the secretary and she was very upset because just the day before, 3 parents were sent back to her office because they didn’t check in. The school was so proud of itself...until I showed up.
Please note: the above scenarios were carried out in an effort to protect my grandchildren. I have a CPL and I follow all the rules. What have YOU all done to help insure your kids’ safety?
Hopefully the police used the 2X4 and beat some sense into the moron.
He committed trespassing. They might also charge him with terroristic threatening and other charges.
After school, I see a bunch of kids walking home. Target rich environment doesn’t have to be inside the school.
Of course, that could all be rumor. So much has changed with this tragedy.
Automatic weapon. At least it wasn't a baseball bat yet.
Was he still carrying the Sharpie? "The pen is mightier than the sword." Swords are banned in schools. Therefore . . .
I waiting to hear what the person that was involved in the argument but absent the day of the shooting has to say.
I also want to know how the mother came to have a rifle that was banned in CT and also in NJ where her other son lives.
Yep. An “assault board.”
You beat me to it.
Was it a fully automatic assault board, or just a semiauto lookalike board?
Actually, given he was stopped at the door by the resource officer, and arrested, I think he showed that it isn’t as easy as it looks, if you have a person assigned to keep bad people out.
In some cases, those resource officers are police officers. AT my kid’s high school and probably most schools in Virginia, the resource officer was a police officer and carried his police weapon with him at all times. So if you tried that in their school, you’d be met with armed resistance.
You would probably be able to kill the poor disabled guy who does the check-in process at the door (you give them your driver’s license, it is scanned to check for your identify because our DLs have information in them, and then you get a sticker and are allowed in).
Anyway, if I were going to try to terrorize a town, it seems easier to set up outside the perimeter and just shoot using a rifle when the kids are outside playing.
The most terror I can remember in my life was when the DC Sniper was driving around randomly killing people one at a time over a period of weeks. One of the shootings was in my county, at a gas station I regularly drove past. And other shootings were at stores like stores I attended, and it was all random, so nothing you could do would really guarantee that you might not be targeted.
During that time, kids weren’t allowed out from schools during the day. One kid was shot after being dropped off at school, but survived.
.223 on everyone
10mm glock on himself
carrying sig
shotgun in trunk
Of course, it might not work too well against an 'assault board'.
How do they think signs and laws will stop evil men?
This guy is being a real jerk to pull a stunt like this days after children were massacred. I hope at the jail, the cops gave him a piece of paper that said “One phone call,” and then for supper, gave him another that said “Pizza”.
One school shooting took place outside, after one of the perps pulled a fire alarm and all the students and teachers exited the building.
Obviously he was going to a board meeting where no boards were aloud.
FMCDH(BITS)
Was the board only limited to giving off ten splinters at a time or did it have a higher capacity?
Agreed. In a NPE (Non Permissive Environment), the same combat rules apply, just with extra restrictions on tools in use. My dad taught me that even if I was going to lose an unavoidable fight, I should "mark" the aggressor, make him remember that there was someone else in the fight, and that both sides lost, even if I lost by more than he did. A Sharpie could do that!
Someone should have challenged this insensitive moron to a duel.
“Well, your honor, he brought a board to a gunfight, and he lost.”
“Acquitted!”
All local state and federal buildings have great security for thier politicians judges and personel meanwhile our school security is much like the security in a local store or small bank. Parents need to redirect thier anger and frustration at the politicians. Do they allow your children in school if there is no working fire alarm system?
Are you FReeping from jail? What you did is only a notch or two better than the fool with the board who was arrested.
You’re lucky the school authorities didn’t call the cops and file a report on you after you fessed up.
Arrest me for what? As I clearly stated in my post, I FOLLOW THE RULES.
Congrats, you have totally (well, not really totally, that happened yesterday at work) incensed me. What I did was legal, on every count. I have grandchildren in those schools, I have every right to be in those schools. My gun was locked in the glove box of my locked vehicle, I had ID for me, where I work, my CPL and pictures of my grandkids in my wallet.
What I did was show the schools where their security is pathetic.
ANd file a report for what? "So and So's gramma was here today and she didn't check in at the office"? It is not a law here yet that says we must check in at the door.
I am being proactive. Are you my boss? Still not over yesterday, eh?
Charge him with terrorism
Or better: "Your honor, he told me he had a 'high-powered rifle' and he aimed it at me. I simply took him at his word."
Man held without bond for screaming, jumping up and down near school...
And you? You knowingly and willfully breached security and entered without authorization. You trespassed. Tensions are very high and everyone is on alert right now.
I know you think you should feel smug in showing the weaknesses and the flaws in those schools security systems, and I - having common sense - would not charge you; but still. You gotta know what you did was foolish.
Thought crime: You embarrassed them.
I do not feel smug. I feel that my grandchildren are not safe at school. I trespassed? In a public school? Really? That’s all you got?
Again, I ask you. What have YOU done to assure your kids’ safety?
I refuse to accept your label of “foolish”. Trust me, I know the laws in my area (not only do I have common sense, I have legal sense), and I broke no laws. I even made one secretary very happy. Get that? SHE was happy to learn that her school had become so complacent, all in the space of one day. Again, what have you done?
Oh, and I read your link. Yep, here the guy would have been taken into custody. I, wearing a camel-colored long winter coat, and carrying my purse (all the ID’s, ya know) walked into a school. When the teachers and students (including my grandchild) smiled and said hello, I returned the smile and said hello also. My face is not known at these school, unless it’s in my car to pick someone up or for a school program. I AM NOT A FAMILIAR FACE)I did absolutely nothing to cause any terror or fear, in anyone.
What have you done? Yes, I’ll keep asking that until I get an answer. And if you tell me you watched so-and-so on TV, or read an article on the net, well, I guess you don’t have kids. That’s ok. Don’t you DARE call me foolish because I acted (absolutely, totally legally, in a calm, non-threatening way)upon my concerns. And, just in case you care, some changes will be made, based on my reports to the schools. And, at least I know, all my kids have rooms with egress windows. Evade, Escape and Run. What about you?
(wow, I think I’ve just started my first confict on FR! And it’s not even to score hits on you! Maybe it will wake you and someone else up)
What have you done?
Part of the confusion arises from the fact that police found a semi-auto shotgun locked in Lanza's car (well, his mother's) at the school.
In Friday's earliest reports, reporters assumed the shotgun they saw the police remove from the car was the Bushmaster. Remember that these reporters used to think everything was an AK-47; now, every 'scary' firearm will be an AR-15.
