Remarks from the NRA press conference on Sandy Hook school shooting, delivered on Dec. 21, 2012 (Transcript)

Here's a transcript of the remarks from the NRA press conference on the Sandy Hook school shooting. Statements are being updated as the remarks unfold.

DAVID KEENE, PRESIDENT,  NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION: Good morning.

--snip--

LAPIERRE: Good morning.

The National Rifle Association -- 4 million mothers, fathers, sons and daughters -- join the nation in horror, outrage, grief, and earnest prayer for the families of Newtown, Connecticut, who have suffered such an incomprehensible loss as a result of this unspeakable crime.

Out of respect for the families and until the facts are known, the NRA has refrained from comment.

While some have tried to exploit tragedy for political gain, we have remained respectably silent. Now, we must speak for the safety of our nation's children.

LAPIERRE: Because for all the noise and anger directed at us over the past week, no one, nobody has addressed the most important, pressing and immediate question we face: How do we protect our children right now, starting today, in a way that we know works?

The only way to answer that question is to face the truth. Politicians pass laws for gun free school zones, they issue press releases bragging about them. They post signs advertising them. And, in doing so, they tell every insane killer in America that schools are the safest place to inflict maximum mayhem with minimum risk.

How have our nation's priorities gotten so far out of order. Think about it. We care about our money, so we protect our banks with armed guards. American airports, office buildings, power plants, court houses, even sports stadiums are all protected by armed security.

LAPIERRE: We care about our president, so we protect him with armed Secret Service agents. Members of Congress work in offices surrounded by Capitol Police...

“Ladies and gentlemen, there’s no national one size fits all solution to protecting our children. But do know that this president zeroed out school emergency planning grants in last year’s budget and scrapped Secure Our Schools policing grants in next year’s budget.”

As soon as this was said, my local NBC affiliate cut in and later refused to address this comment in their summary. Of course protestors continued to get the attention they sought. Wonder if this was a local situation or a national display of bias?

I think we all need to start engaging these idiots.

I’m going to start emailing some of these lib reporters. If enough of us start annoying them with the truth it will have an effect. Journalists are weak-minded losers and pathetic followers, so they don’t have the stones to stand up and think for themselves.

All I can say is that Mr. Claret was at Bass Pro today and called to tell me that ammo was flying off the shelves. I told him that he’d better get some more and we agreed on a rather large spending limit.

No, Wayne, we don’t need another emergency Feral Government program. Look what the Patriot Act has brought us.

Disband DoEd. Return the money to the states. If they want to use it on security, fine.

State and local issue.

Sitting in the barber shop today waiting to get my haircut I overheard a conversation about the rampage.

The older suburban well-to-do guy getting his hair cut was spouting the Media talking points about bad guns, bad home schooling etc.

To my surprise the younger, poorer Russian immigrant barber from Brooklyn NYC defended home schooling and defended gun ownership.

It was an interesting contrast.

The praise on this thread is depressing.

P.S. Love the "Feral". Think I'll steal it. ;)

The progressives are happy. There were no dead Negros in the kindergarten, even hybrid Negros. Two of the dead were Tiger Cubs, non Queer Boy Scouts.

What could be better? This is better than redistribution of rich folks wealth. It happened in Connecticut. A major pustule, a puss filled boil on America. It is liberalism at it’s very best. It is what is wanted...... dead rich kids

I didnt see it that way, I see it as a bold finger pointing at the Feds to put their money where their mouth is. A suggestion to do something MEANINGFUL instead of just disarming the law abiding

NRA's Wayne LaPierre Calls for Armed Security in Every School

With the two volume controls that I know about controls maxxed out, it's barely audible until almost 12 minutes into the news conference, i.e. about 11:47. The volume becomes lower around the 14th minute.
