Michael Steele: NRA presser was ‘disturbing’ (RINO Alert)
Politco ^ | 12/21/12 12:01 PM EST | KEVIN CIRILLI

Posted on 12/21/2012 4:15:56 PM PST by Red Steel

Former RNC Chairman Michael Steele called the National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre’s press conference Friday “very haunting and very disturbing,” in the wake of the Dec. 14 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

“I don’t even know where to begin. As a supporter of the Second Amendment and a supporter of the NRA — even though I’m not a member of the NRA — I just found it very haunting and very disturbing that our country now is talking about arming our teachers and our principals in classrooms,” Steele said on MSNBC immediately after LaPierre finished his comments.

Steele continued: “What does that say about us? What does that say about us? I do not believe that is where the American people want to go. I do not believe that is the response that should be coming out of the tragedy out of Newtown.”

Delaware State Attorney General Beau Biden — who is Vice President Joe Biden’s son — said there wasn’t a meaningful dialogue in the press conference, in which LaPierre did not take reporters’ questions.

Biden added: “[There] has to be a much more robust and meaningful dialogue about whether there are certain types of weapons consistent with the second amendment … that just shouldn’t be in the hands of citizens other than those types of assault weapons that you take to battle that don’t belong in our communities. And that’s the discussion that I hope we have in a meaningful way.”

...some dumbass babe who stated that "billions of dollars" would need to be spent to arm our schools with security personnel..and nobody challenged her.

As I recall, LaPierre said the NRA would do the planning and training for free.

I wonder if she ever heard of "volunteer firefighters" who fight fires just as well as any unionized firemen? America (outside of the union infested cities) is full of them. They drive very shiny trucks and do a great job - just like in the city!

I suspect if the program is instituted, there will be millions of volunteers willing and able to be trained and used in the schools to protect their kids, grand kids, friends, and community. Remember, the idea is deterrence. However, if that fails, it is to delay or neutralize the killer(s) until the cops arrive. That can't be done with a bigger ABSOLUTELY NO GUNS ALLOWED sign.

The cost is embarrassingly minimal to institute and run such a program. Volunteers will gladly provide their own (approved) weapons. The schools can provide the radios and a "healthy" lunch. However, if we let the unionized lard asses like the TSA in the act, it will fail miserably and cost those "billions of dollars" bubble head is wringing her soft pretty little hands about.

Training should have commenced promptly after Sept. 11, 2001.

Any notion that schools would not be targets was bluntly and tragically made invalid when terrorists struck in Beslan, Russia, Sept. 1, 2004, resulting in over 300 dead.

If the perp last week had been a member of Islamic jihad, many school administrators and teachers would be the subject of: Why were *you* not better prepared!?

Up until liberals finally took over the school systems and “feelings” became more important then “thinking” guns were not only allowed in schools, many had rifle teams.

In the mid west school kids would take their trusty rifles to school so they could do some hunting on the way back.

Also, the ROTC before being ran off campus had real weapons to train on (and the let us don’t forget the drill teams). I laugh every time I see the modern equivalent of a drill team with a painted 2x4 in place of a real rifle.

Guns are not the problem. Banning guns will not solve the real problem.

In truth, it is a mental health problem. If all guns were to magically disappear overnight, a mentally sick person who wanted to kill a lot of people could still do it.

As it is now, “gun free zones” just lets someone who wants an easy target know where to find it.

At one point in time I believed it was possible to persuade a liberal with clear cut ideas and facts. After many years I have concluded that fact do not matter to liberals. The truth does not matter to liberals. The only thing that matters to them is that they get their way on everything.

If you disagree with them, you are demonized. Either individually or as a group.

I do think the average liberal is going to like the world they are trying to create. One were the state owns everything including your labor. One where only the state can decide who lives and who dies. One where only the state can decide who succeed and who will fail.

Individuals have no place in this brave new world.

If past history is any example, once the ruling elite can full control, one of the first thing they do is purge all the useful idiots that helped them on the way.

Steel is wrong, but so is Wayne LaPierre. Blaming games or movies is the same as blaming guns. It was a deeply disturbed individual who committed this terrible crime. Why can’t we stop blaming what we opposed and just accept personal responsibility?

LaPierre is a disaster. Not only should he not have commented, he is a horrible speaker. The NRA isn’t responsible for Sandy Hook any more than GM is responsible for drunk driver fatalities.

Milwaukee Sheriff calls for armed guards in every school. David Clarke said this 2 days before the NRA.

Safety is not the issue and never has been the issue. Getting all guns out of the hands of the public is the issue. It was fifty years ago, twenty five years ago, and is the issue now.

Again, safety is not the issue, getting guns out of private hands and into government hands is the issue.

While they’re at it, they should legalize dueling with the DC confines so big mouthed communists in Congress would think twice before they lie and dishonor real Americans.

So it’s more important to guard bank vaults, judges, and city council meetings than to guard kids. STFU, Mikey.

“As a supporter of the Second Amendment and a supporter of the NRA....”

.
First he says that he supports the NRA and then he says that he is not a member.

Then how do we know that he supports the NRA? I really see no difference between RINOs and demokrats. They’re both born to lie.

I was a little disturbed by the conference, but not for the same reason as the MSNBCer Steele. Wayne LaPierre should have stressed the right of every individual to defend himself & others with a gun, with the emphasis on individual; thus, with regard to schools, the solution is to encourage the training & arming of school principals, administrators & teachers. Instead, LaPierre seemed to outline a government-centric, cop-in-every-school approach, and even lobbied to federal monies to fund this program.

Besides being outside the American philosophical tradition, LaPierre's approach is less effective, because when there's a single or couple identifiable defenders with guns, they can be taken out by a killer who plans a little ahead. But an armed militia of citizens - with an indefinite membership - cannot be so eliminated.
