Russians demand more liberal gun laws at home following Sandy Hook shooting

A new gun rights movement appears to be stirring in Russia to relax gun laws and enshrine the right to keep and bear arms following the Connecticut Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

“In this shooting six teachers died, six people who could literally use only their hands to defend children,” said Maria Butina, the founder of Russia’s newest gun rights organization Right to Bear Arms. “The murderer planned this knowing that no one would be armed.”

The Right to Bear Arms was quick to point out that Connecticut has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country, and that Adam Lanza, the shooter, obtained the weapons illegally and committed the crime in a gun-free zone, taking the same position that many American have, that more gun laws cannot prevent crime.

The organization’s focus isn’t narrowly defined by the shooting, however. They hope to expand on all gun rights and get more people to join their cause.

Butina continued, “What is the right to life, ingrained in our constitution, if you don’t have the right to bear arms?”

Americans need to realize that a lot of pressure to ban guns is being applied from outside the country and we should fight it the same way by pushing external pro defense movements.

It's closer than we think.

“The murderer planned this knowing that no one would be armed.” -Maria Butina

And that incontrovertible fact gets lost in the slobbering crush and press by the media and politicians to attack the 2nd Amendment.

Russia, after over seventy years of the Egalitarian/Collectivism, which Obama is seeking for America, is in the process of waking up. Even the media, there, appears able to question fantasies, which are treated as sacrosanct by our mass media.

The immediate future looks very ugly, indeed, for us.

Accurate, concise, and observational. Nicely put.

Russia is the first to travel the long road back from Communism (Marxism). They are still on that road, albeit the remaining Commies and some of their Media are trying to turn around their progress. A charismatic authoritarian Nationalist leader is likely the only way to stay in the direction of moving away from Communism. We don't know yet if they will succeed or how far towards liberty they will travel, or if they can travel the full distance to Liberty and Justice for All, as opposed to Democracy and Law for all.

It was Russian parents grabbing their guns and running to the Beslan school to save their children. Yeah, great idea to take away their guns.

I think the Russians are also noticing the Chinese, and starting to worry.

Just saying.

While we are in the process of being 'put to sleep'.

Right now private gun ownership in Russia is practically nonexistent. As a result their murder rate is many times ours. If they can get some gun rights it will make the country a much safer place.

Wrong. In Russia you can lawfully own a variety of weapons considered illegal in United States.
They have a “miitary grade” definition as an equivalent for US “assault” term but it only covers fully automatic rifles and artillery calibers.
SVD, semi-auto AKs are absolutely legal and widely available at gunshops. Smoothbore 12 gauge AK variant is a default home and business defence solutions. Most truckers has it as well.

Murder rate is a bullcrap. It is mostly how one count statistics. You can safely walk in most of their cities at night.

My Russian wife (now U.S. citizen) of ten years applied for, and got, her Texas CHL as soon as she qualified under Texas law. She was (and is) adamant that the right to carry a handgun was one of the greatest “rights” enshrined in U.S. law. She continually laments the fact that her relatives still in Russia cannot defend themselves because only “bad” guys have guns.
