Piers Morgan's Full-Auto Fantasyland (Ignoring the difference between full and semi-automatic)
American Thinker ^ | 12/23/2012 | Dmitri Rutkowski

Posted on 12/23/2012 7:23:13 AM PST by SeekAndFind

CNN's Piers Morgan is known for his invasive, aggressive style of journalism and reliably left-leaning sympathies. In the wake of the recent atrocity at Sandy Hook School, however, the former British tabloid editor has taken to playing fast-and-loose with the facts regarding America's gun laws . . . in a manner that's "not quite cricket."

During his 12/21 broadcast at the 20 minute mark, Morgan repeatedly featured YouTube-type video footage illustrating the firing of a fully-automatic AR15 type rifle. What's wrong with that? Well, the problem stems from the fact that both the video's caption and Morgan himself describe the fully-automatic weapon (effectively a machine-gun) as semi-automatic. Compounding his misrepresentation, Morgan noted that rifles with the same capabilities as the weapon portrayed are commonly available to American consumers.

As many veterans and firearms enthusiasts are aware, fully-automatic rifles fire continuously when their triggers are depressed and they are not commonly available to the American consumer. In contrast, legal semi-automatic weapons fire one time when their triggers are depressed; certain types of these weapons are permissible to own for many qualified Americans who are of age, who have no history of mental ailment, who have a clean criminal record, and are not otherwise prohibited by law from doing so.

Videos of fully-automatic "machine-guns" spitting out bullets, while impressive and menacing, are not videos of semi-automatic weapons firing. To use these terms or images to describe these weapons interchangeably is misrepresentation of the basest kind.

America is not a fully-automatic culture. Actual machine-guns and real "assault-rifles" (which -- by definition -- have not only semi-auto capability, but full-auto as well, and frequently 3-shot burst these days) are prohibited from ownership

Bump.

Very important, and very under-reported distinction.

(and just for good measure, another bump)

I saw the clip where he called his pro-gun guest “incredibly stupid”. I savor the day when someone jumps across the table and beats the shit out of him.

For Facebook Freepers, there is a page to Deport Piers Morgan - you may want to give it a “like”. It was only over 100 last time I checked.

RE: For Facebook Freepers, there is a page to Deport Piers Morgan

HA! With this President in the White House, this twit might even be given honorary citizenship the way Congress did for Winston Churchill.

In fact, Obama returned Churchill’s statue to England. He just might put Piers Morgan’s statue in its place.

Larry Kudlow on his Saturday night 12/22/12 show after blasting conservatives for the no tax increase vote allowed Musket Morgen to fire off rounds of off smoke asserting the ease of purchasing assult weapons, which Kudlow didn’t challange or correct at any point during the period Morgen appeared as a guest on Kudlow’s talkie.

Unless Kudlow lives under a rock it’s been reliably reported the guns were legally obtained and went through the series of Connecticut hoops and that the weapons were stolen. Kudlow played the whores game probably hoping for a guest spot on Piers show. And that’s the way the game is played kiddies

"I savor the day when someone jumps across the table and beats the shit out of him."

Hopefully that individual will wear gloves while doing it. People like Piers Morgan are frequently HIV-positive.

We need to eplore this like we did Dam Rather. If he showed automatics and falsely claimed they were semi-auto we did to get his fired or at least make a big stink about this. He was fired from the Mirror tabloid in England cause he showed a false video of British military guys mistreating a captive. This could bring him down and help our cause. Anyone want to help..

As soon as they think they hjave a handle on why semi-autos need to be banned, they will begin to consider single/double action revolvers as semi-auto because you can keep firing by merely pulling the trigger with no need to re-cock.

I did a search the other day on full auto weapons and I was floored at how much they actually cost.

My brother-in-law is convinced they are readily available to the public and the internet is the prime source for purchasing.......he's a dummy.

Hell, since I live in Michigan, I couldn't even purchase an air rifle I wanted over the internet without having to go thru a local FFL dealer....

Gotta ask what credibility a male who rims the rear of another male really has? The sickos have followers just as Sandusky had his.

Sixty two years ago, on the high plains, a neighbor gave me a wooden Thompson look alike he had made.

If I had known it would have turned me into a RAVING MANIAC GUN NUT I would have asked him for two!

My favorite gun-ignorance story is about ten years old. There was a legislative open house at the Capitol in Hartford CT with kids from all over the state visiting to see how laws are made. The absurdity of that aside, the day ended when some ignorant fool reported a “sniper machine” gun pointed at the kids. The Capitol was evacuated while the state police, the Hartford police and the Capitol police combed the area. 3 hours later the “shooter” was identified as a television cameraman with a video camera equipped with a telephoto lens on a tripod who was still video taping the search. Rather than identifying the fool (most likely an NEA member teacher from one of the schools visiting the Capitol) we got solemn assurances that it was better to be safe than sorry.

OK. Who's responsible for this? Someone has been confusing this man with facts. Piers as a boy in class.

Does anybody else remember the CNN story, where in order to show how "deadly" these assault weapons were, they fired two rifles, one a "regular hunting rifle" and the other an AR-15. They made a point of noting that both fired the same cartridge. They fired the "hunting rifle" first, and the melon didn't even move. Then, when shot from the AR-15, the melon exploded! They showed that segment a number of times.

Later, it was revealed that the "marksman" who shot the rifles simply missed the melon with the hunting rifle, and CNN did a one-time retraction at about 2:30 in the morning.

I did a search the other day on full auto weapons and I was floored at how much they actually cost.

While full-auto weapons have always been more expensive than semi-autos, due to the "Firearms Owners Protection Act," it was declared that no full-auto weapons manufactured after the act was passed and signed (1985) could be sold to civilians. So the number of full-auto weapons in civilian hands was effectively capped, and the prices have skyrocketed ever since.

Yes. That is why we need to investigate this and expose him like we did Dan Rather. He has been fired in England for another such false reporting. Come on lets do this. i am not computer savy enough to get this going.
