Los Gatos residents protest sporting goods store

LOS GATOS -- Carrying signs demanding "No Guns in Los Gatos" and "Protect Our Children," about 30 people picketed a new Los Gatos sporting goods store that sells firearms Saturday, the day it was supposed to open.

Former Los Gatos Mayor Sandy Decker said it appeared that Templar Sports opened briefly, but then closed in the face of the protest. No one answered the phone at the new store on University Avenue, which also offers fishing equipment.

The protest took place eight days after the massacre at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. Twenty children and seven adults died.

"The timing of it is so poor after Newtown," said Shannon Susick, a real estate appraiser who helped organize the protest. "Kids walk right by the store on their way to school. It's a safety concern."

Los Gatos is a very wealthy small city in California. So why didn't the county sheriff step in to stop this shut down of a legal business? If it had been the local office of Planned Parenthood would this been allowed to occur?

Astroturfing. They are going to claim a grass roots effort to ban guns.

OMG!!!!!! Kids walk “right” past there. Heavens to murgatroid. What if they see a firearm through the window just resting on the shelf readying itself to go on a “spree” “spraying” bullets like a fire hose with “high-calibre” “cop killer” “armor piercing” ammo? Well, they’ll probably continue on to where they were going and play Call to Duty 3 or Halo or some other form of video entertainment where no guns are seen blowing limbs off the good and bad guys. Enjoy your first amendment rights. They may be next on the list. Cali-Mordor used to be a nice place. But that was a LONGGGGGGGG time ago and far far away.

Helping keep mankind warm for 65 years.

So I guess it’s alright for your child to walk by an Planned Parenthood clinic on the way to school but heaven forbid a sporting goods store.

11 states make it illegal to obstruct the entrance to a clinic: California, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Oregon and Washington.
Six states prohibit making threats toward a clinic’s staff or patients: California, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Washington, and Wisconsin. Two states, Maine and Washington, also ban harassment by telephone.
Four states ban property damage to a clinic: California, Oregon, New York, and Washington.

Vallejo, California: fixed buffer zone which requires protesters to remain across the street from a clinic enacted in 1991. After the Supreme Court of California upheld the injunction, the case was taken to the federal Supreme Court in October 1994, but was remanded to the state court due to the recent Madsen v. Women’s Health Center decision. The California Supreme Court again upheld the buffer zone in July 1995. On March 17, 1997 the case reached the federal Supreme Court as Williams v. Planned Parenthood Shasta-Diablo, and Justices voted 6-3 to uphold the buffer zone

These (professional) protestors are idiot sheeples!

I was stationed at Vandenberg back in the mid 70’s and am familiar with Los Gatos. It is a nice place and as others have mentioned, this was astroturfing.

I gotta ask - you were at Vandenberg - Lompoc, Santa Maria, even SLO or Santa Barbara I can understand, but Los Gatos. How did you get from Lompoc to Los Gatos?

That's the safest block they'll be walking.

Without a parade/demonstration permit...

... this is USUALLY against the law...
Singling out a lawful business and therefore....

"interfering with commerce"

He has a good case...
"Debrief" the video coverage... take names..etc.

One letter to the sheriff inviting his upholding of the law...
If not..... sue them all.

I am not following this...

Is she saying that the guns would jump off of the store shelves by themselves and start gunning down every little kid that walked by that store?

It’s a wonder that modern life has not been ruled a danger to the children and we have been required to live like it was 1699 again.

It sure is! Those little children, walking by the store might be attacked by those guns, breaking out of their cabinets, running across the store lobby, then breaking out the store window to shoot the children!

It's amazing that I managed to survive high school, since we all know that guns kill school children, and I saw guns every day at school, twice two days a week. You see, I was on the school rifle team, so we did learn how to tame the guns, and safely interact with them.

But those days are long gone...

Now just a few miles north of Los Gatos in San Francisco there are some very traumatic sights that young children have to observe on their way to school Photobucket

If I were an aspiring criminal, Los Gatos would move to the top of places looking to be looted and pillaged, knowing that those sissies wouldn’t be armed, and have no means of defending themselves. Liberals like to paint bullseyes on peoples’ heads.

Yep, kids walk right by that store. It’s a safety concern?

I always would like to ask liberals follow up questions about inane statements such as that. How is it a safety concern if kids walk by a store which sells guns? Would love to know the liberal reasoning, but we never hear such follow up questions, do we? Instead, the media reports the inane statement, and we’re just supposed to lap it up as gospel, that somehow it’s unsafe for kids to walk by a store which sells guns.
