25 years after her rape claims sparked a firestorm, Tawana Brawley avoids the spotlight

Her silence is deafening.

Twenty-five years after the spotlight first glared on Tawana Brawley — a black woman who as a teen claimed she was raped by a gang of white men, smeared with feces and stuffed in a garbage bag — she’s desperately struggling to stay hidden from public view.

“I don’t want to talk to anyone about that,” Brawley, 40, said recently after The Post found her in Hopewell, Va., where she lives in a neatly kept brick apartment complex with signs warning of video surveillance cameras.

By all appearances, her life — so chaotic a quarter-century ago — now seems normal.

Brawley, using aliases such as Thompson and Gutierrez, now has a young daughter, a neighbor says, and works as a licensed practical nurse at The Laurels of Bon Air in Richmond, where co-workers were clueless about her past.

Nope , not defending her. Al Sharpton has never paid the Judgement he lost in this case either. Just wondering whay after all this time the Post reporter bothered to track her down, but not one reporter has ever bothered to track down Obama.

Of course there is no spotlight ready for her to step into it, but our “media”, right at the 25TH anniversary of a “watershed event” like the Brawley/Sharpton hoax, dusts it off, finds it has enough “interest” to make a news story again, and starts shooting a little juice into that spotlight. Usually, it flickers for at least as long as it takes to read the story, then dies out forever. She may get another mention in the papers when she dies, but you just KNOW she won’t get a mention when Al Sharpton dies.

I remember this.. and I remember this especially..

Liberals said it didn't matter that the charges were false.. since the charges expressed the essential nature of white men's treatment of black women in this country.

And of course similar lack of concern about false charges so long as the charges are against whites; to wit, the Duke lacrosse players.

I found some interesting and germane information on wiki graffiti that has since be removed because it contained the following:

So she owes Steven Pagones almost a half million $ from the defamation case? Why isn’t the law hunting her down and making her pay? What, she doesn’t have the money?
