Forget Sharia—The New Egyptian Constitution Enshrines Socialism

It isn’t every day that the world gets to watch the birth of a new constitutional democracy. As the political drama in the land of the Pharaohs unfolds, the Western commentariat seems totally focused on the extent to which Egypt’s new constitution will be informed by Sharia law. Alas, nary a peep can be heard about a far greater threat to Egypt’s freedom and prosperity.

The drafters of the new Egyptian constitution are blessed with having the history of two centuries of constitutional democracies to study. Evidence abounds on what works and what doesn’t, of which economic policies lead to rapid growth and which to stagnation and bankruptcy. Yet with all this information at their fingertips, the Egyptian people appear set to go to the polls to endorse … socialism.

"...Wages shall be linked to production...and establishing a minimum wage"

Interesting. You get a 'minimum' but are allowed to work harder if you want to? Can you imagine what their 'union types' will think of those that choose to take advantage of the "Wages shall be linked to production" clause?

Socialism is integral to Islam, to Arab nationalism, and to the Nasserite state. More important, the endorsement of socialism in the new constitution legitimates Egypt's "deep state" in which ranking current and former military officers and politically connected businessmen control and loot the Egyptian economy.

The new constitution will thus perpetuate Egypt's poverty and inability to generate jobs and incomes for most of its populace. In a way, this is good because Egypt's enduring economic weakness will help make the new regime more tractable because it will, like it predecessor, be dependent on US financial support and unable to go to war against Israel.

In time, discredit will also attach to the Muslim Brotherhood and the Islamist ideology. This will likely lead to a weakening of the larger Islamist movement and to Islam itself among the Egyptian public, just as Islam has become thoroughly discredited among most Iranians because of the failures and miseries of being ruled by Shiite mullahs.

I wasn’t joking about national socialism in the OP. The state of Nasser and even his MB rivals is definitely based on that concept.

And take note of how Egypt has been cozying up to Iran.

Thanks for posting
Went back to posting several times to see if there was some postings relavence to subject, and attempted to try the Forbes link which bounced all over the place.

The difference between an “islamist” and a socialist is that one believes there is some sort of a supreme being which orders everybody must conform to “what is written” and the other which does not profess in any such being but demands conformity to what the “collective” decides .My argument against islam on religious grounds is http://www.theusmat.com/islamandfreewill.htm

Outside of the theistic claim there is no difference between the two. Both demand authoritarian conformity, and the complete surrender of oneself to the state.. Hence a socialist would find themselves in agreement with some islamic “solutions” expressed in any state constitution such as been developed by the “brotherhood” and might support it as a stepping stone. Then work to kick out the deism portions and insert the “collectives” wishes in its place.

But this might explain why Forbes Bill Frenza feels Egypts new constitution appears to be socialist.

My FRiends, I do not know how to properly say this and make myself understood, but here we are reading about a Constitution of another Country, when we should be a bit more worried about our own.

What good is a Constitution when the leaders of a country ignore its contents. Our own Constitution is taking hits every day.Our Supreme Court under Roberts —instead of ruling on laws has begun deciphering and interpreting them to fit an agenda.

Our leadership in the Congress is allowing our President powers that he is not entitled to, and trying to take away the rights given by that document.

I believe Americans should pay more attehtion to the damage being done to out own Constitution and pay less attention to a Constitution being written in a country that is beyond redemption. I might add beyond redemption due to the interference of our own would be dictator.

from what we have seen and heard this may well be the model government Obama wants to install in the US. I wonder if any of his cronies were involved in the writing of the Egyptian document??

I view Islamics as “poets of the socialists”. They have this Koran book which is about developing personal hate incantation for the implementation of a socialist plan. The socialist comes with that plan, that organization, which the Koran was incapable of formulating coherently. One is the answer to the other’s calling and hypocrisy. Islam is a pseudo religion, it is rooted in political loopholes and going for those political answers, even to discard the poetic book if need be altogether, as a loophole. Islam is filled with loophole, and its holy book is only temporary scheme.

Egypt, once a granary for the world, can no longer feed her own people without massive US aid. This reflects the dismal effects of both its socialist system and Islam. There is at least some reason for optimism that the Muslim Brotherhood will not be able to fully control Egypt or use it to enhance their strength.

Notably, Morsi and the Brotherhood have recently gotten more push back than could have been expected when he came to power; and although Egypt can help Iran, there is little that Iran can do the help Egypt and the Muslim Brotherhood.
