Skip to comments. The NRA plan is so stupid that 1/3rd of all public schools already use it

[. . .] Nationwide, at least 23,000 schools about one-third of all public schools already had armed security on staff as of the most recent data, for the 2009-10 school year, and a number of states and districts that do not use them have begun discussing the idea in recent days. . .
Plus the NRA plan was much more comprehensive than just armed guards.

I read this morning that the school Obama’s daughters go to has 11 armed guards.
That’s how crazy this plan is.
It’’s not known how many Utah schools have armed CCW staff, because it’s against the law for the school districts to ask the teachers/staff if they are carrying.
Locally, there have been School Resource Officers at the high schools for several years, but not at the lower schools.
I think they were there mainly to deal with students, not outside threats. Maybe recent events will change things.
I went to Stockton High in Stockton, CA and they had a police station on campus near the cafeteria.
That was in 1977 and there were several incidents that were brought under control quickly as a direct result of the proximity of officers.
Maybe we should see how many injuries and deaths by shooting happened at the armed schools.
Probably so many, in fact very likely more than at the unguarded schools, that we now have proof that the idea is a total failure. /s
If reporters had any integrity, one of them would ask the President at his next press conference, “Mr. President. Is it true that your children go to a school where there are armed guards? Do you think all Americans should have the same access to protection that they do?”
Ummm Spews York Slimes NRA Rep Asa Hutchinson has already made that publicly known.
In the schools where they need to protect the teachers from the students they have armed police.
Yeah. Somebody like Dick Gregory whose kids go the same armed school as the prez’s daughters.
Note that the "friends" school is located in a huge gun free zone.
Our County has SROs (Sheriff’s Deputy) in all the public schools during schools hours.
Obummer`s Executive Order via the US Dept of Educ.:
DO NOT DO AS I DO, BUT DO AS I SAY.”
Ok...how many of these mass killings have happened at these armed schools?
Most schools have no need but Detroit area schools have them and the gang bangers still manage to kill each other.
um.....I believe the answer to your question is zero.
Nor should it......
A now retired friend of mine was a vice-principal at a school in Warren, Michigan. Prior to the gun free zones which went into effect with Michigan's "shall issue" law in 2001, my friend and numerous other male teachers in the school carried concealed weapons......not even the principal knew they carried.
In addition to security officers, I think they also have metal detectors.
Two reports I heard on Channel 7 news a number of years ago:
1. News babe reported on a student who was caught bringing an assault weapon into one of the Detroit high schools. Several days later, a follow up report said it was a shotgun.
2. Also a few years ago, Channel 4's Bill Proctor reported on a shooting in Detroit. He said, and I quote: "Police are looking for a .357 Smith and Wesson Glock Pistol"...........no lie!
And that doesn't include the Secret Service guys.
The children of politicians are much more important than everyone else,s children, of course. (Just like their parents who are exempt from Obamacare.) They get school choice while other kids can't. They get multiple armed guards to protect them, but other kids don't.
Yes, the Obamakids go to Sidwell Friends School, run by the Quakers. Quakers are pacifists. Some do not believe in self-defense, but I guess it is OK to hire someone else to protect you, eh?
'Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.'
My school has a couple of armed SROs. But I’d feel better if the law said I could legally carry there.
That strikes me as a very good idea. Many small towns have relatively small pollce forces and compensation for those officers already amounts to a good part of the budget for such towns. Having an assistant principal, or similar school officer, with a CCW permit who’s also been trained to respond to a potential shooter situation, would provide the necessary protection at a far lower cost.
There are enough able bodied retirees in this country who would volunteer their time to protect every school in the country every hour there are kids there.
I have some free time and I’d certainly be one of them. Think about how much money it would save too.
They are there to keep track of the criminals going to school....maybe in schools for the super rich they are there as guards...not in the intercity
Don’t expect a question like that from these wimp assed Journalists that go to the White House.
Columbine High School had armed security guards. They were trained in the event of a shooting to call 911 and wait for police response. Police response was trained to establish a perimeter and wait for SWAT. By the time SWAT entered the building nearly two hours after the shooting began, there were 13 dead, 24 injured, and Kliebold and Harris had committed suicide.
It takes more than armed guards, it takes the proper training and mindset to stop the violence as soon as possible.
Oh, and this was during the Clinton-era Assault Weapon ban that also banned "high capacity" magazines. Harris had a Hi-Point 9mm carbine (a rifle that shoots pistol-caliber ammunition) with thirteen 10 round magazines, and shot a total of 96 times.
Well, I DID say, “If they had integrity...”
Murderer wants a sex change; taxpayers will have to pay for it
spending Dems support.after all, they can’t afford to fire a diversity coordinator and hire a cop for the school.
