Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said that she and other gun control advocates are considering a law that would create a program to purchase weapons from gun owners, a proposal that could be compulsory.
“We are also looking at a buy-back program,” Feinstein said today in a press conference. “Now, again, this is a work in progress so these are ideas in the development.”
Gov. Andrew Cuomo, D-N.Y., already discussed the possibility of a buy-back law for his state, but he made clear it would be a forced buyback.
“Confiscation could be an option,” Cuomo told The New York Times yesterday when discussing semiautomatic weapons. “Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option — keep your gun but permit it.”
Australia implemented a mandatory buyback program in 1996 following a mass shooting. “The law banned semiautomatic and automatic rifles and shotguns and put in place a mandatory buy-back program for newly banned weapons,” USA Today recalls. “The buyback led to the destruction of 650,000 gun.”
Some liberal activists want the policy imitated here. “That would be like destroying 50 million guns in America today,” the Center for American Progress’ Matt Miller wrote after noting that Australia eliminated 20 percent of the weapons in the country. “The Australian ‘outlaw and repurchase’ option is one approach. But if Congress balks at banning certain weapons entirely, it could make gun owners an offer they can’t refuse. Instead of $200 a gun, Uncle Sam might offer $500.”
Feinstein also said that that former President Bill Clinton had volunteered, on a phone call, to help her get a new gun law passed.
“[Clinton] was talking about the battle back in 1993 with the bill that, interestingly enough, was introduced and passed within the year fo 1993 and went into effect in 1994,” she said. “And, of course, he was president and the White House came alive and was very very helpful in enabling the passage of that bill both in the senate and in the House. So, to have him part of the team again is really quote special for us.”
California doesn’t have enough money.

CA already had a compulsory buyback of non-compliant SKS’s around 1999-2000. The state paid $230 for them.
These people appear to be planning one of two things: extermination or invasion. Or both.
I have debated Feinstein on the issue of guns through a written communication over the years and she has proven to me that she is about as ignorant as a human being could possibly be. That's not the startling part. The startling part is that she could be that incredibly ignorant yet be in such a high position of power. Scary.
A bill for such a program would need to be initiated in the House, as the cost of it would double, at least, the national debt.

How can any entity buy “back” something that was never theirs in the first place? Even the word used to describe the proposed event is a lie.
What America really needs is a national shootback program.

I prefer a Senate seat buyback, as that is more essential to the survival of our nation.

There are something like 300 million guns in the country, right? So ... if they start a new tax, at about $500 a head, they can then afford to buy up all the guns at $500 a piece. Sure, it will look a lot like outright confiscation since you have to pay the $500 so that they can afford to pay you the $500 which you then receive in return for your gun, but that’s just a detail, right?

Probably not. She’s one of the communist elite. She can have firearms. It’s the little people who “can’t be trusted” that they’re going after. The commies better lighten up and back off. They are violating the Bill of Rights which breaks the contract between the people and the government. The government then becomes no longer valid and will have to be replaced.

Permitting wouldn’t have stopped a single mass shooting. So clearly THAT is just an opportunistic political move on the graves of the innocent children.
Voluntary buy-backs are fine in my book. I don’t think people should be forced to own guns, and if they already own guns, they should have a way to get rid of those guns, since we don’t want them to throw them out where they could fall into the hands of criminals.
We could then sell the guns at gun shows, and the government could do background checks if they like.
We often say that gun laws only target the law-abiding. But a compulsory buy-back would make criminals out of a lot of gun owners, because they would not comply.
These buyback programs are such a joke. Dont these morons see that the only reason why many people are trading in their guns for cash is so they can buy even better guns
