The Weather Channel map looks like a Christmas card - plenty of green and RED. Rough ride out there tonight.

All is well. This is part of a multi-century pattern ~ of normal weather.
Mobile has been on again/off again suitable for settlement. There's a really fascinating record of great storms and tornados ~ if I had time I'd tie it all into sunspots.

Prayers for those affected. To this swamp yankee boy, tornados are scary as heck. Little to no warning and utterly destructive.

checking intellicast local and there were FOUR probable tornados in the area ~ advancing on Montgomery ~ and one was near Gulfport as well.
A good dozen storms with hail.
Some nasty stuff.

We’re here in Gulfport, right off the beach (just came back from visiting family in Mobile), and most of the tornado activity has been reported a little more north in the county areas north of I-10. So far, it’s been fairly calm just off the water.

thanks for the well wishes......I’m watching the local channel and they were showing one of them live a little bit ago - all you could see were transformers blowing.....I’ve closed all doors and blinds and will move into the center hallway if they say we need to.....they’re now saying another tornado has touched down but not sure how close to me at this point.....

Just talked to a friend in Mobile in a high rise complex. They’ve all been called to the ground floor. She’s just north of downtown...says it’s coming right up the river.
To: BamaDi
If it’s near you’ll know unless it’s very fast moving. The sound is hard to describe, but freight train is as close as you’ll get. Your ears will probably pop from the pressure change, sort of like descending in a plane or going up a mointain in a car. Since you’ve got time to prepare, you might want to drag a mattress into that interior hallway and pull it over yourself if it actually does hit.

One was on the ground just West of DeFuniak Springs, FL. headed North. That is a rural area so maybe not too much damage.

That is just because in tornado country 99% of the land is rural or sparsley populated. The myth is that urban areas have a weather effect that prevents tornadoes.

I’m sitting here fat dumb and happy in west Mobile. I didn’t even know tornados were hitting all around me till I looked at this thread. I’m not completely clueless, it just appeared the last time I looked at the radar it was going north of here. Police scanner traffic is surprisingly quiet. Last Thursday when a tornado hit all the police and fire were talking 90 miles an hour.

23 As Admiral Farragut said at the Battle of Mobile Bay: Damn the tornadoes, full speed ahead!! Please, have a little sensitivity on Christmas Day. We are still scarred down this way from the APR 2011 tornado. Folks get jumpy down here - our fall tornado season supposedly ended 1 week ago.
To: military cop
I used to live in Mobile. Half mile wide....very bizarre. Usually tornadoes there are on small scale.

It looks like it’ll be here in about an hour but it’s moving pretty fast. I’m on Hillcrest between Airport and Old Shell. I haven’t seen what I would call really bad weather here. There’s been some rain and wind, but nothing like Thursday morning.
