I seriously doubt that hes going to jail. But the D.C. Police Department apparently has nothing better to do than examine whether he violated the citys gun laws.
Was the moderator of Meet the Press caught on tape, armed and dangerous, liberating a few Slurpees from a 7-Eleven? No, he waved a high-capacity ammunition clip on the air while interviewing Wayne LaPierre, asking it shouldnt be banned.
Was it a stunt? Yep, and an eye-catching one. Was Gregory being aggressive with the NRA chief, or seeming to push gun control in a confrontational interview? All that is up for debate.
But a police probe over what I assume was an empty ammo clip is a total waste of time. What it demonstrates above all is that journalists are getting ensnared in the political war over gun control.
Even more absurd than a criminal inquiry into David Gregory is an effort by pro-gun enthusiasts to kick Piers Morgan out of the country. His crime? Carrying on a passionate crusade for gun control.
Thus, more than 68,000people have signed a petition urging that the CNN host be deported back to Britain. Thats right, they are so outraged about his perceived attack on the Second Amendment that theyre willing to ignore the First by banishing Morgan for his views.
Im not going to defend Piers telling gun advocate Larry Pratt, Youre an unbelievably stupid man, arent you? But raising the specter of deportation is ludicrous.
Morgan has been cheeky on Twitter, saying: If I do get deported from America for wanting fewer gun murders, are there any other countries that will have me?
The gun issue, in the wake of Newtown, could not be more serious. These sideshows are anything but.
How did we end up with him? I thought UK sent their undesirables to Australia.
Someone should fire warning shots.
For some reason, CNN outbid them.
What a ridiculous law.
What a ridiculous law.
The 68,000 that signed the petition don't have the first amendment soapbox that Morgan does so they are using this platform to exercise their First Amendment rights. Not many people signing this petition think deportation would actually happen (nice as it sounds) and are only doing so to make a statement. Liberals have trouble recognizing irony in the tripe they write.
Just a meeting of the Whining Wankers Union.
Probably got it from ‘Gun-Runner’ Holder.
Advocates of banning magazines above a certain capacity ask who needs them. Putting aside that we tread on dangerous ground when we put any Constitutional right to a test of need (for example, who really needs to trample on the American flag?), the burden of proof is that the cost of such a ban will be justified by improving public safety. In an era of trillion dollar federal deficits, this raises a question of best use of finite government resources. If history is any guide, few people who already own any of the estimated 100 million such magazines in private hands can be expected to turn them in. Aren’t we better off allocating our money to improve school safety rather than fund a war on newly-outlawed firearm accessories?
I would remind people that while we are now having a “national conversation” on firearms regulations, we have yet to have a similar conversation about what changes we must make to the treatment of citizens with mental health issues, not to mention how we are going to fund any changes that we decide to make.
If we get down the road a few months on these topics and the loudest voices on the left still give the highest priority to funding the waging of a new war on firearms accessories, above funding improvements in mental health or school safety, we will know who the real ‘gun nuts’ are. And they won’t be the people with NRA bumper stickers.
Yes, I agree it is a ridiculous law. And I think holding Democrats to the standard of the ridiculous law of their own making is a good tactic. Straight out of Alinsky’s playbook.
There was a story yesterday that chimpy-boy’s producers tried to get prior approval from the Metro Police Department, were denied, and went ahead with the stunt knowing full well it was illegal. We must keep the pressure on MPD.
Criticism is an assault? Is there an assault on gun owners, maybe?
Hmmm, ILLEGALS aren't citizens but they have more rights than I do, so I'm guessing Piers will be protected as well.
First, Piers is a foreigner trying to muck around in a foreign country’s politics. We aren’t over there trying to change how they run themselves. I know exactly the response we’d get, and it would be SOD OFF or EFF OFF or worse.
What it demonstrates is that the media is on the same side as the far left and have been for decades.
Why would additional laws do any good? Even the media transgresses them!
Is it a crime to actively strive to deprive legal citizens of a Constitutional right?
