We saw groups of Israeli soldiers everywhere we went. There were armed guards posted outside of our hotel in the middle of Jerusalem, their holstered guns quite visible. When we visited Hebron, we traveled in a special bullet-proof bus. I had no doubt that the driver of our every-day bus and the driver of the bullet-proof bus were armed, and were certainly IDF veterans. I was GLAD to know this! Visiting Hebron, you are very much aware that you are confined to a very narrow sliver of "safe" land amid a very dangerous place full of people who would be delighted to watch you die.

While this protection is certainly pleasing, my Parents live in Israel (Haifa) and it pisses me off to no end that G-d's people have to live like this!

Bullet Proof buses because of 1300 year old hatreds.

What is worse is that is doesn't have to be that way. My wife is a Palestinian and we get along famously.

How do you destroy a Country? Balkanize it.
