Obamacare Could Double Health Care Premiums: Aetna CEO
CNBC ^ | 12/26/12 | Justin Menza

Posted on 12/26/2012 3:15:06 PM PST by jimbo123

To provide all Americans with health insurance, premiums will have to rise to pay for it, Aetna CEO Mark Bertolini told CNBC's "Closing Bell" on Wednesday.

"If we're going to insure all Americans, which is a worthy and appropriate cause, then somebody has to pay for it," Bertolini said of the expected premium increases under Obamacare.

Bertolini said that insurance premiums could double in some places just on the basis of what types of policies people buy today.

He also said that when Obamacare is fully implemented, it won't start the way people had hoped and it won't be cheaper.

“Making health insurance mandatory is a noble and worthy cause”, said the CEO of the health insurance company.

What a load of crap.

Ours already went up 28.5%.
If that happens again going into 2014 & 2015, we’ll be past a doubling!

A tax on the middle class as payroll budgets will be squeezed to pay for it.

Premium costs will have to double just to cover paying the providers for caring for the uninsured. They’ll have to double again to pay for the bureaucracy and regulatory costs to run it.

Everyone knows that it will be FREE health care once it is in place.

(I wonder what percentage of people think that? I would guess at 30% or so).

At least 47% of the population will believe that, or won't care that it's not true.

The poor will want to get "free" healthcare, and the middle class, most of whom are looking to save anywhere they can, will be glad to transfer their healthcare costs to government, even as they know that it ain't really free. Hoping for the best is how people go through life, and crossing bridges when they they get to them, is the only time and way they'll face seemingly unsolvable problems.

I wonder what will happen after my COBRA term expires.

I paid $778 a month for COBRA. When it expired this last August, I had to take their conversion policy, at the policy for that is now $1088 per month. I am 63 years old, unemployed, with a pre-existing condition.

Medicare will kick in for me just about the time Obamacare is in full swing. I don't anticipate good care at that point.

Yes, when this POS was passed, we recieved an email from our HR department, informing us that our premiums were going up. I responded with just about the same words, feigning confusion. The only response I received was “That is all the information we have at this time.”

I understand what you mean that even if one didn’t have to pay for insurance or health care directly, you are still paying for it in taxes. But I wonder how many people expect Obamacare, as it stands now, think that they won’t have to pay for it? (Like that lady years ago going on about how now that Obama was elected she won’t have to worry about paying her insurance, mortgage, etc.)

The whole premise behind Obamacare is to destroy the private insurance companies. Mandating a company to cover preexisting conditions is like telling life insurance companies to write policies for people will a terminal illness. They want a single government payor. They are also going to destroy Doctors in private practice by reducing reimbursements so low that it will be impossible to pay the office overhead. So Amerika will have hospital based physicians and a government single payor except for the privileged class. The future for medicine sucks for patient and doctors.

The ten year funding model for five years of benefit (not a good start) has four major parts. Revenue from taxing the rich, revenue from taxing other than the rich, cuts to Medicare, and penalties to large employers who don't provide coverage.

All of that goes to fund the bureaucracy and subsisize the premiums of most middle and lower class people that purchase insurance through the yet to be established exchanges. The kicker is that the penalty structure encourages employers to shed coverage and not cover new employees. The result would be a per employee penalty that is a small fraction of the subsidy that employee will qualify for. When more that the planned for number of people request that subsidy the cost of the program explodes.

There won’t be doctors.

No one is going to go into multi hindred G debt to work for Obama and this mess.

There won’t be research.

Pharmaceuticals will go the way of NASA.

The only benefit will be the administration’s access to our information at multi thousand dollar per month cost to us.

That’s it.

If government actually solved problems then what would happen to all those lovely employees who sacrifice so much in the government employment?

Bingo! True success would be working themselves out of a job (or bureaucracy) which is precisely why government social and economic programs fail. They need to fail to perpetuate and grow the related bureaucracies because failure is "never government's fault" and the programs just "needs more money."
