There have been all sorts of responses to the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary last Friday.
American Federation of Teachers Randi Weingarten is pushing Big Labor to get behind gun control legislation. Others argue that it might be wise for every school to have several armed staff members.
At least those are both logical suggestions to address an obvious problem.
Now Parents Across America, a pro-union group, has checked into the discussion, urging President Obama to respond to the events by having less standardized testing.
Huh?
Are these people suggesting that state standardized tests somehow drive unstable students to commit mass murder? Could we please see some evidence to support that bizarre theory?
Wendy Lecker, founder of Parents Across America-CT, wrote:
This body of research demands that we rethink our national obsession to use tests as the goal in education. A low test score should be an alarm, not that a school or teacher is failing, but more likely that there are stressors in a childs life that warrant intervention.
Thats a good reason to have tests, right? So we can tell which kids require intervention? Apparently not.
Lecker went on to point out that shes talked to school nurses who tell her at test time, they see a spike in headaches, stomachaches and the need for anti-anxiety medication.
Were not sure what Lecker is trying to say here. Are the kids who are anxious about taking a test likely to get a gun and kill someone therefore we shouldnt have tests?
The unions and their supporters have always hated state standardized testing, particularly when its used to evaluate teacher performance, and would resort to any strategy to kill the practice.
If they can somehow twist the Connecticut tragedy to meet that goal, theyre clearly willing to do it, no matter how stupid they sound.
As Rahm Emanuel once said, Never let a good crisis go to waste.
I blame the school lunch fish sticks.
Randi Weingarten is bottom feeding scum.
Please don’t insult the bottom feeders. At least they serve a real purpose in the world.......
A punchline about killing the curve would be just too tasteless under the circumstances...
You MUST admit that America’s children would be MUCH safer the less time they spend in public schools!!
Definitely better off.
Trying to get the unions behind gun control might be pretty stupid. The unions are really pushing their luck with their rural members in recent years. Some 40% of union members supported RTW in Michigan and opposition to gun control should hit 60% easy.
There seems to be no depth to which these people will not sink.
The irony is that Lanza could probably ace every test put in front of him-he was attending college at age 16.
It’s that damned hot, Tuna Casserole! Or the rubbery Salisbury Steak!
When I was in school the teachers actually cared about the students.
These days the union only cares about how to use the kids to get their way.
It was a different time and a different country, but I was one of those students who were unreasonably stressed out before exams. It didn’t matter what my grades were, that I always did good... when exam time came I was literally a nervous wreck. My mom put an stop to it, kind of, by locking up my books and dragging me to the movies the evenings before major exams. At first it made it worse, I mean, how could I relax? Eventually I learned to upstage my mom, by the time she would take my books I knew the material back and forth... I won’t go as far as claiming that I eventually got to relax, but since there wasn’t anything I could do, I got less and less uptight. I graduated from high school and college with straight A’s. When I came to the US for graduate school, it didn’t take me very long to realize that my mom’s method worked better than cramming the night before. Now my children are used to being ready ahead of time and they don’t freak out. Actually my son loves standardized testing, he seems to think the SAT is a challenge to outdo his previous score.
Teachers are the only employees who no matter what or how it is done, think it’s wrong and/or impossible to evaluate their performance.
“don’t judge me, bro!”

blames testing for school shootings?
Making other liberals look sane by comparison?
This daft bunch makes abortionists and divorce lawyers look like boy scouts. Next they’re going to tell us it’s “for the children.”
