CHICAGO (AP) — When Illinois' top political leaders touted a proposal to allow illegal immigrants to obtain driver's licenses, it was painted as public safety measure and had the backing of immigrant rights advocates, who deemed it a positive step in the fight for immigration reform.
But the idea has run into some resistance among illegal immigrants themselves.
For many of Illinois' estimated 250,000 undocumented residents of driving age, volunteering an address, photograph and birth certificate to a state database seems like a risk, possibly more than driving without a license.
"They will have my record, maybe one day they (authorities) will just stop me," said 19-year-old Faviola Villagomez, who was brought illegally to the U.S. from Mexico as a child. The Chicago college student said she'd be hesitant to apply because it could make her and her six siblings — none of whom are citizens — more easily identifiable for deportation.

It is truly sickening how the leftist press makes martyrs of those guilty of multiple criminal acts. If the media showed 1/10TH the concern for REAL Americans, we might just improve this country.

Do the illegals have to take driving lessons before getting a license or do they just get into a car and move it a few feet?
Also, do they have to have mandatory car insurance?
Do they have to sign any forms that ask whether they are citizens of the US or not? The reason for this question is that it used to be that foreigners had to fill out additional information in order to get a temporary license to drive in the U.S. Don’t know if this policy is still in effect or not. Would be interesting to find out if so, and where.

By all rights they should fear for their lives.
Illegals would never get to the point of fearing licensing requirements in the US if all they had to fear were the minefields, triple concertina, 30 ft walls and withering interlocking fire from machine guns along the border. They could then concentrate their efforts on obtaining a license from Mexico.

Amen. This would be so in any other country that was decent and being invaded.
Unfortunately illegals as drivers kill innocent people, citizen and non-citizen, but not many liberals.
If a few ACLU types, or leftist academics, or Rahm Emanuel’s cohorts were mowed down in the street or on a sidewalk, you might (when pigs fly and shit gold bricks), see a slight change in attitudes towards illegals as drivers.
However, the innocent are the ones who get plowed, not the lefties who live in gated communities, or hi-rise condos with private security, and shop in upscale stores where illegals never go.
When was the last time a lefty professor got run over? An ACLU lawyer? A Democratic Party official?
God has got to spread the pain around. A “diversity” (as Obama would say) of victims is needed.
I would call it “justice redistribution”.
